i have a gigabyte ga-ep43-ud3l motherboard, 2x1gb kingston hyper memory, 600w cool master PSU. 160gb Western Digital HD, core2 duo 2.8ghz e7400 processor. When i built i, it started up right away. When i tried to format the hard drive, when it said "setup is formatting" it gets stuck at 0%. What is the problem bcuz all my hardware is new? Ive tried switching the jumper, and the hard drive is new. Also, when i try to format it says 152625mb Disk 0 at id, o on bus, o n atapi(MBR). If anyone has a clue what is wrong, reply to my thread. I need to get this PC running!
I chose not to load SmartDrive (mostly because I was too lazy to look for the disk I have it on). Now the installation process seems stuck (40 min or so) at the "Please wait while files are copied onto the HDD yada yada" phase. Should I just reboot and try again? Do I need to format again? Will load SmartDrive this time.
I am running Windows XP Professional and have been having problems for several weeks now. I got the dreaded blue screen... was on the phone with Microsoft tecs for 3 hrs one day and then 5 hrs another and they thought that they had it taken care of. They didn't do a total replace, just a repair so that I could backup some information I hadn't backed up yet. I was able to run windows XP Professional again but the tec told me that I needed to do all the updates. As soon as I updated to SP2 I got the blue screen again. I did a repair with my cd and was able to get Windows XP Professional back up. As soon as I installed the updates and updated to SP2 and restarted I got the blue screen again. I decided to format and reinstall instead of repair. I followed the instructions and it is now stuck on the screen where it says setup is formatting... 0%. What should I do next?
I am trying to reinstal my WIN XP but when I reach the near end of "Installing Windows" at 9 minutes the setup won't go any further it looks like it is stuck on Registering Components. I don't get in errors or anything like in some other cases that i read. Here is a picture that might help resolving the matter.
im now having some problem on my windows and would like to make a clean install but everytime it gets to 9%,it stucks. the file it is trying to copy is the msimsg.dll. i need to reset the computer to get rid of it.
I have been having problems when i tried reverting from windows 7 back to Windows XP Home Edition. At first i was able to get to windows setup (Blue screen) when i had the disc and partitioned to install the XP Disc. The computer restarted and i get to "press any key to continue (with the disc)" and i do so and it says "set up is inspecting your computers hardware" and then screen turns black and nothing appears. When i take the disc out it says "Error Loading Operating System". I can't really do much of anything now. Only screen i can get to is f1 to the "bios setup utility".I have an HP a450n.. Really need help i been wanting to use XP again because windows 7 annoyed me because it lagged my games. it has ran windows xp before and worked very good as well as for the games.

A friend of mine gave me an HP Pavilion ze4400. It had Windows XP installed on it when he gave it to me. I moved out of the area and forgot to take the XP CD with me. I was having problems with picking up wireless networks using my USB wireless adapter. Uninstalling and reinstalling the program for the adapter didn't fix anything, in fact, it made it worse. So I thought I would try using an XP CD to correct the problems that way. I had no idea that XP CDs weren't all the same.I put the CD that I had for my IBM laptop in the HP and it started to install. After about 10 minutes or so, I got a "Fatal Error":"An error has been encountered that prevents Setup from continuing. One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed. The operation was canceled by the user.Press OK to view the Setup log file"The Systel Setup Log:"Error:The signature for Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade is invalid. The error code is 426.The service has not been started.
I've been looking all around the internet for 2 months for my answer, yet I haven't been able to do this. It seems simple to me. Why can't I find an answer for this question...How do you re-format the C drive? It seems at least simple to me. That's all I want to so. I have two paritions, C and D. C is my system partition, and install Windows XP Pro on it. That's all. In XP setup, it will not let me format it, so to me in theory, I'm at a dead end. So I've installed XP on the C drive three times, all in the same folder, and now it has taken up 10 GB (why?) of space when it only should take no more than 4.
I tried to reformat from the XP CD and from a boot disc floppy. Each time the process gets stuck at: Windows Setup. There is nothing else on the blue screen. It won't go past there to the agreement section...or anything else This system was a custom built computer, given to my mother-in-law about 3 years ago. The company has since gone out of business. It was built w/ XP Professional SP1 and has since been upgraded w/ SP2.Outlook express stopped working properly and would shut itself down as soon as it was opened. Then the dial-up connection would connect but no internet explorer pages would load.
I need to get my HDD reformatted with the help of a paid technician.Couple of weeks ago he used the quick format method & asked him if that would make any difference & he said really not.I have the doubts though. I kind of wonder why would Windows then give a choice if there really wasn’t any difference?
I've setup Windows 2003 fax services on a W2K3 server and shared the device. I've tested faxing from Word on my PC and it works fine. However, when other users try to install the fax client, the setup hangs asking for the fx* setup files. I've tried different XPSP2 CDs, copying the files to a local directory, making sure that the users have local admin rights (and even domain admin rights) but to no avail. The files are already in the system32 directory so in theory the setup doesn't even need to copy them. Even if I delete them, it doesn't work. Our corporate SMS team reckons that there isn't any policy which could cause the problem.
I started an upgrade for xp pro part way through the install I got a message "WatchDriverSigningPolicy.exe" no found I pressed enter then got another message "fake setup call himself instead original "setup.exe" ; setup abort!" now each time I reboot it starts to load xp then gives me the same message then press enter it then reboots.
I mistakenly launched XP Setup and want to know how to stop it from progressing further. I have another XP installed on another virtual disk. Rebooting from there allowed me delete the Setup files. Or so I thought ! The main XP installation however continues to try to launch Setup. Just about whatever I do, it ends in tears. My question is how do I stop XP on this disk from thinking it has to launch Setup? I dont want to reinstall XP, as that will involve a huge amount of work to recreate my environment.
I was told to reinstall windows 2000 aon a C800 I was given. I stopped with an erroro reading line 3221166496 hivedef.inf corrupted. Setup cannot continue.
Anyway i can download the CD? I m using Xps Gen 5 I got the cd of windows xp, but i get an error trying to format with it... I dont know if its my PC or the CD
my pc died and was fixed by a friend, there are two partitions on the hard drive, what were the C & D drives, the C drive is 29.9gig and has remained unaffected. however, what was the D partition (which is now the H) is in RAW format and windows will not let me format it. i'm not worried about losing anything that may still be on it, but it's 427gig and me little C drive's getting full up fast
i am trying to install windows office 2007 but after a minute from start of installation ,it popup dialog box saying setup can not find setup.exe file and say browse valid installation source and click ok. I don't know whats happening.I have just formated my C drive and installed fresh copy of windows xp. here is image of error message. what should i do?
I dropped my laptop the other day. It kept working at first, but crashed a couple of hours later. Now, when I boot-up, I get the following error message:"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: System32/Drivers/Ntfs.sys. You can attempt to repari this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."I've inserted the setup CD (in an external CD-Rom drive, since my laptop doesn't have its own drive). But for some reason, setup won't start, and I keep coming back to the above error message. How do I start setup?
I am stuck in the welcome screen on windows xp and I am hoping to find a solution that won't require me to reinstall windows as I am afraid I will lose my documents, picutures etc. I have some important things in there as far as pictures that I had not put on cd yet.
I have a dell latitude d600 laptop and i keep getting stuck at the welcome screen. not frozen, i can move the mouse cursor around but there's no options to choose from so i'm essentially stuck. i usually keep my computer in stand by and then everythings fine. but occasionally i shut down my computer and thats when i have this problem. this problem started once in a while when i started up the computer but now it happens everytime i start it up. i called a tech support number and they had me goto "start" then "run" and type in "prefetch" and over 50 files came up. the man on the phone said there should be about 7 files there.
A laptop that i have is stuck in "preparing to standby", and it has a battery attached so pulling the plug wont work and pressing the power button isnt helping either. what should i do?
All updates applied,IE 7 uninstalled,Norton2008 security 15 day trial for antivirus.Java updated. my browser gets stuck, won't shut down sometimes and just seems to hang and bog more often than not.As far as I know i am not running unnescasry programs in background.Pop up blocker is medium, security is default.
I just upgraded my computer from windows xp home to windows xp pro, and ever since then i can't hibernate my computer.it gets stuck at the black start up screen when i try to come back from hibernation. I did get a new wireless internet card since then, which i though might have been the problem, but i uninstalled and it still was messed up. I also restored my computer back to an earlier date to try to resolve this problem, but once again
I recently had a new PC built for me by a friend of mine. It had some problems intially so he re-installed Windows XP and changed the RAM voltage to 1.90 in the Setup menu as the PC boots up.Anyways, he kept my PC for about 2 weeks while I was on vacation, running various programs and using it for all kinds of tasks on a regular basis, and everything was fine.I've had it home for a couple of weeks now. Every once in awhile something seemed wrong, but usually a good reboot would solve any problems...so no big deal. However, within the past week, it's had terrible troubles rebooting. This is basically what will happen. A. It will boot up to the Windows loading screen, but right before it gets to the screen where you select a user, it crashes with a quick flash of the blue screen of death (I see it for like 1/5 of a second--so I can't read what it says) and reboots. Sometimes when it reboots I get the option to boot up in Safe mode. When the problems first started, I could boot up in Safe Mode, restart from Safe mode and everything would be fine. Now, however, I'm usually not so lucky. B.When I finally get it booted up, I'll get some Error about a Registry file that had to be recovered from an alternate copy: Recovery was successful. After that, I usually get error reports for the following programs. These are the most common programs that will randomly cease to function, but there are usually some other error codes thrown in there too. 1. MSN Live Messenger 2. GoogleChat (internal error) 3. AcroTray 4. AVG anti-virus 5. Logitech Messenger C. Here are some other errors I have recieved at random times. Some I've got only once in many reboots, others have shown up a few times. The most recent ones are at the bottom. 1. Nvidia Driver error 2. SoundMax 3. Smax4PNP 4. Exception has occurred while trying to run C: Windows/system32/NVCPl.dll/NVstartup 5. Some error with SetfilePoanter/Kennel32.dll 6. Runtime error System32/svchost.exe 7. Windows has recovered from a serious error. I was having problems with Norton Live Update and requested assistance. Everything that they instructed me to do failed and finally they asked me to remove Live Update in "Safe Mode with networking" and then reinstall off the web. I do not work on a network, by the way. I only have Broadband at my home and I don't think that counts as a network, anyway. Well, I did what was asked of me and since that day the computer has been stuck in Safe Mode. It will not use any of the restore points that I have chosen when it asks "yes" or "no" to restoring to an earlier date in order to restart in Normal Mode. By the way, I am using my other Compaq laptop to send this message - even though the Toshiba can send and receive on broadband, even though it's stuck in Safe Mode.
I was having trouble with "Word" on this computer but that problem is insignificant to the one I now have with the Toshiba. Is there a remedy or am I bound to have to use the Recovery Disc that came with the machine when I bought it? Symantec have simply said that they cannot help me if it's stuck in Safe Mode. Brilliant. They are more worried about the Live Update problem than the fact that I am stuck in Safe Mode.
I have a Dell Dimension 2400. My hard drive died & I bought & installed a new hard drive. I reloaded Windows XP with SP 1 which is the CD that came with my system (about 5 yrs ago). I completed the install & now the images on my screen are all screwed up. When I go to change the resolution the only selection in 640 X 480 Resolution 16 bit. When I go to Device Manager I do not see an ICON for my video. I also do not have sound. Can someone help me with this. I have an integrated motherboard. The video & audio cards are burnt into the motherboard. Can someone please help me with this.
during formatting my pc stuck on 27% for more than 15-20 minutes .i don't know why it stuck ,after that it proceed formatting automatically.after all hurdles pc works correctly but i m confused why it stuck on 27%
i have a dell dimension 2400 - running XP Home, which was infected with numerous viruses and spyware - these were cleared - though due to its very nature a number of os files were removed/deleted. I then decided to run a repair of windows XP home to reinstall these files. However, on numerous attempts, the repair gets through to the Preperation Phase ok, and then gets stuck at the "installing Windows" phase, with 33 minutes to go - with the "installing Devices" box at around 80% bar completed.Has anyone any ideas what to do and fix this - apart from a clean install of course!
