No USB Ports Working - Driveres Installed Correctly

Sep 15, 2005

None of my USB ports are working. I believe that it was the cause of a thunderstorm. I already uninstalled all drivers and ports in the device manager and let windows reinstall them, and still none of my hardware is recognized, not even my mouse. All drivers seem to be installed correctly. Can my usb ports be fried? I dunno.

USB Ports Stopped Working - Installed SP3

Aug 5, 2010

I have lost access to all the USB ports on a PC. There was no apparent crash but I realised there was a problem when the USB Mouse stopped working. Everything else is working OK. I get an Error 39 (drivers corrupted or missing) and the 2 entries in Device Manager both have yellow marks against them. I only have "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller" and "Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller" entries below the entry for Universal Serial Bus Controllers - no Root Hubs are there and there are no Unknown Devices anywhere else.I was running XP Pro SP2 when the ports went, but have installed SP3 and Updated to see if that did anything - it didn't. I have tried the troubleshooting suggestions on Microsoft such as deinstalling and rebooting, updating, system restore and have done a repair installation using my original XP SP2 disc all with no result.

Audio Ports - USB Ports Not Working

Jul 19, 2005

Last week I was hit with a multitude of viruses. Since then I've followed
the KRC Anti-Spyware tutorial, I have ewido, spybot (tea timer running), Ad-Aware, etc. and cleaned everythign up, and my system is finally stable again. I even got Norton System works and that helped a lot too. I've been to Windows update and am completely up to date with installs.2 problems still: I still have no audio, and 5 of my USB ports are not working

Install Memory - How Do You Know It's Installed Correctly?

Nov 4, 2005

I installed 512MB PC3200 to my Windows XP Sony Vaio PC. The little white clamps clicked into place.
when I right click to see the system summary, it still says 502 RAM. I thought it would read 1 gig (?)
Is there something I need to do?
Do I take ut the old memory and then add two (new) more memory chips to increase the memory? Or do I just put in an additional memory chip?

Alt-Tab Not Working Correctly

Sep 20, 2007

I have a client whose computer has stopped reacting to "alt-tab" hot key (ie. switching between screens).Let's say you are in IE (any app does the same)Currently, if you hold down Alt (like you are getting ready to hit tab), it will highlight the File option from the menu screen. It acts just like it would if you clicked on "Alt" once. If you hit "Alt-Tab" it doesn't do anything different.Things we have done:
1. Tried using the other alt button - same thing
2. Tried installing MS Power Tool for Alt-Tab - same problem
3. Tried installing an app called Alt-Tab Thingy - this was interesting but I didn't catch the full message. It said something like Hot-Keys not enabled or cannot access Hot-Keys.
4. Reboot - same problem..Since then, we have uninstalled the Alt-Tab Thing application and are still stuck with this strange issue.

Mouse Not Working Correctly At Some Times

Jan 26, 2005

I've just recently purchased a system within a week only to find that my wired optical mouse has stopped working correctly. It sporadically moves from place to place and at times is completely unresponsive. The weird thing is that every once in a while, the power on the mouse completely turns off (no light coming from it). I am certain the USB mouse works as it has been tested in another computer.

Keyboard/mouse work fine in set up - so have checked BIOS etc. Soon as load Windows - no response - hence Software issue rather than Hardware. Safe mode no use as mouse and keyboard don't work once windows loaded. Any gurus sorted this before? Have run a diagnostics through utility partition and Everything working okay - especially all USB elements.

USB 2.0 Ports - Possibly Modem Have Stopped Working

Jul 11, 2005

I've got a bit of a problem with my computer and was hoping some advice. Basically all the USB 2.0 ports on my computer have recently stopped working - I can still use them to charge my iPod, but not to communicate with it (I no longer get the little icon in the bottom right hand side of the screen when it's connected), and I can't use my printer because the computer insists it's off-line (I've tried two different cables so it can't be a problem with that).I've got two USB 2.0 ports on the back of my computer (built into my motherboard - can't remember the exact model offhand but the processor is one of those 2800+ Athlon 64bit ones, if that?s relevant) and I've also recently upgraded my monitor to a dell FPW2005, so I've now got another couple (not working) on the side of that too. I even tried taking the USB 2.0 card from my old computer (that has 4 USB 2.0 sockets in it and plugs directly into the motherboard) - but this didn't work either

USB Ports Not Working - Remove Norton Antivirus

Jan 4, 2009

I am working on a friends laptop, a Dell Inspiron 9200 running Windows XP Pro with SP3. I have it working well now except the USB ports do not work. The laptop was in pretty bad shape when I started. I remove Norton Antivirus (subscription expired 3 years ago), removed a few trojans and viruses using Malwarebytes and Combofix, and installed AVG Free. I also cleaned up the temp files, compacted the registry using NTRegOpt, and defragmented the drive.I have tried uninstalling the USB controllers and let Windows reinstall them, verified working status in Device manager, and disabled USB device power management. I also plugged in a USB mouse and verified the ports are supplying power.

Code 19 - USB Ports Not Working - Yellow Exclamation Mark

Apr 11, 2005

I have a Dell 4600 running XP Home and all my USB ports have suddenly stopped working. When I go to the device manager and expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers, each of the Intel(R) 8280 1EB VBB Universal Host Controller has a yellow exclamation mark beside them. When I check their status this is the message: Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19). I was not in the registry prior to this, so I don't know how it got damaged
I tried this: Click Uninstall, and then click Scan for hardware changes to load a usable driver ? no effect.

I tried this: Restart the computer in Safe Mode, and then select Last Known Good Configuration, which rolls back to the most recent successful registry configuration ? didn't fix the problem. Microsoft says that as a last resort, you can edit the registry directly ? but I not sure where and what to edit in the registry. If anyone can tell me what keys to edit in the registry I would very appreciative. I will do anything to avoid reinstall windows from scratch. I unfortuately didn't have system restore going so I cannot use that.

At first the boot was failing, made some hardware changes and all was good seemingly... now the keyboard and mouse no longer work, but they work when the computer just starts up. They just stop working shortly after. I plugged in a USB mouse and that works, so I was thinking it may be a problem with the PS/2 ports.

SP2 Installed And Working Ok - Startup Too Long

I finally got sp2 installed and most things seem to be working ok. I had a problem with Nikon Capture software but got that resolved with Nikon tech last night. Now the only thing left that is bugging me is after boot up it goes to a black screen and hangs for about a minute, then goes to a black screen with a black and white progress bar across the bottom of screen and it takes about 2 minutes before it goes to the windows startup screen and boots up normally from there. I have been to Microsoft support site and looked thru the archives for this particular problem and can't find anything.

Installed Service Pack 2 / System Working Very Slow?

Mar 22, 2007

my girlfriend had been adamant about not updating her computer because she claimed that is a way to get viruses.I scoffed and updated it anyway.I downloaded almost 2 years worth of updates over a two week period, the last update was the XP Service Pack 2 update. The very first time the computer was started after her SP2 update it loaded extremely slowly. The mouse doesn't work correctly (I can only right click) and most programs are inaccessible. I tried to System Restore (which is no easy task without a mouse) but it fails each time. I ran a virus scan with AVG but had no luck finding any infections.
