View 2 RepliesLast week I was hit with a multitude of viruses. Since then I've followed
the KRC Anti-Spyware tutorial, I have ewido, spybot (tea timer running), Ad-Aware, etc. and cleaned everythign up, and my system is finally stable again. I even got Norton System works and that helped a lot too. I've been to Windows update and am completely up to date with installs.2 problems still: I still have no audio, and 5 of my USB ports are not working
I have lost my sound. The sounds icon in control panel say " no audio devices" AND the sound tab shows all listed devices as working porperly. I have deleted an sound object that allows it in device manager and allowed XP to load wht it will. I still have no sound. I checked for sound services in services and they are started as well.If I load Knoppix and test, my sounds work so I am assumming it is not a hardware problem.
View 12 Replies View RelatedRunning HP Compaq Presario..Windows XP Home edition.Thursday I went to plug in digital Camera via cord to USB Prot#2. Message said device malfunctioned.
Tried again. No change (I have used same port, same device many times before ...no problem)decided to Uplug my HP Printer, and try Dig Camera in USB Port #1.. Same Problem... NEXT was big surprise, decided camera may be damaged so went to re-attach HP Printer and NOW IT says Printer has malfunctioned.. same message..
later tried Flash Memory Stick.
On a users laptop (IBM Thinkpad) the playback button under Sounds and Audio Devices - sounds - program events is greyed out. They are able to hear sounds. I can play a sound file in Media Player, but no sound otherwise. Also, in Shockwave (I know, not a Microsoft product, but I am just listing this as a troubleshooting issue), they don't hear any sound when playing a.swf file.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to figure this problem out for a while. After a little break, im back on the search for the solution.I've noticed that a lot of people have had the same or similar issue, but the solutions that i've found havn't helped me out.I had an M-audio firewire 410 audio interface, and one day i stupidly unplugged it without first turning off my computer. Ever since that happened, my sound has stopped working, all options in "sounds and audio devices" are greyed out with 'no audio device' showing up. I've uninstalled all m-audio drivers including the hidden ones. I've uninstalled all of my motherboard audio drivers and re-installed them. I've reformatted my whole computer out of desperation and then re-installed the motherboards audio drivers. Still I have the same issue. When i click on the installed audio drivers, it says they are working properly. Is this a hardware issue? do i need a new motherboard?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI had a playlist running on WMP and all of a sudden one of the songs started being really choppy and kept stopping, etc. When I reboot my computer, it takes AT LEAST 10 minutes until I get to the desktop and can fully work on it. It spends minutes on the opening screen with the Windows XP thing running left to right
I'm working on it now and it's going fine. Whenever I open a program though it takes a long time but ends up working ok. I can't do anything when I open a song or video.
I need help. I lost the sound selection for Email Notification. When I go to Sounds and Audio Devices to check the sound for Email Notification it is gone. Not the sound but the Email Notification. The program selections are half of what they were. I have used REgCure to fix a regisrty problem and had other problems that seem to be fixed but I can't understand this one.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFor some bizarre reason, the Sounds and Audio Devices selection in the Control Panel does not respond when I double-click on it. The icon has also changed to a generic icon that I think means Windows can't recognize it.Sound works fine on the system; I can play CD's or whatever.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have lost access to all the USB ports on a PC. There was no apparent crash but I realised there was a problem when the USB Mouse stopped working. Everything else is working OK. I get an Error 39 (drivers corrupted or missing) and the 2 entries in Device Manager both have yellow marks against them. I only have "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller" and "Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller" entries below the entry for Universal Serial Bus Controllers - no Root Hubs are there and there are no Unknown Devices anywhere else.I was running XP Pro SP2 when the ports went, but have installed SP3 and Updated to see if that did anything - it didn't. I have tried the troubleshooting suggestions on Microsoft such as deinstalling and rebooting, updating, system restore and have done a repair installation using my original XP SP2 disc all with no result.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy CPU has been 100% for over a month. I first thought it was a virus so a scanned w/ every program out there and nothing would detect anything, HJT log was reviewed and nothing found so I went down the Registry Path and tried to repair with Registry Repair Tools to no avail. So I backed up all my files and did a complete OS re-install in CPU is still at 100%. And when this problem first started by USB ports stopped working.

Working on a Windows XP Home Edition Dell mini ATX with no serial mouse/keyboard - just USB. I ran Malware AntiMalwarebytes at owners home - no issues (apart from adware!) Keyboard/mouse work fine in set up - so have checked BIOS etc. Soon as load Windows - no response - hence Software issue rather than Hardware. Safe mode no use as mouse and keyboard don't work once windows loaded. Any gurus sorted this before? Have run a diagnostics through utility partition and Everything working okay - especially all USB elements.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a USB DVD burner. All of a sudden, my USB ports are not
functioning properly. I have 3 ports on my laptop, and have tried all of them. Also, my mouse works, but only if it is plugged in when I start my computer. If it is unplugged, and then plugged back in, the computer can't find it. I have very little computer knowledge, so need step by step walkthroughs. I have tried the troubleshooter, and followed all the steps, and nothing has worked.
the front two USB ports on my desktop are not working right. When I plug something into them, the system freezes and I have to turn the power off. This not happen to the two USB ports on the rear of the desktop.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a bit of a problem with my computer and was hoping some advice. Basically all the USB 2.0 ports on my computer have recently stopped working - I can still use them to charge my iPod, but not to communicate with it (I no longer get the little icon in the bottom right hand side of the screen when it's connected), and I can't use my printer because the computer insists it's off-line (I've tried two different cables so it can't be a problem with that).I've got two USB 2.0 ports on the back of my computer (built into my motherboard - can't remember the exact model offhand but the processor is one of those 2800+ Athlon 64bit ones, if that?s relevant) and I've also recently upgraded my monitor to a dell FPW2005, so I've now got another couple (not working) on the side of that too. I even tried taking the USB 2.0 card from my old computer (that has 4 USB 2.0 sockets in it and plugs directly into the motherboard) - but this didn't work either
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am working on a friends laptop, a Dell Inspiron 9200 running Windows XP Pro with SP3. I have it working well now except the USB ports do not work. The laptop was in pretty bad shape when I started. I remove Norton Antivirus (subscription expired 3 years ago), removed a few trojans and viruses using Malwarebytes and Combofix, and installed AVG Free. I also cleaned up the temp files, compacted the registry using NTRegOpt, and defragmented the drive.I have tried uninstalling the USB controllers and let Windows reinstall them, verified working status in Device manager, and disabled USB device power management. I also plugged in a USB mouse and verified the ports are supplying power.
View 5 Replies View RelatedNone of my USB ports are working. I believe that it was the cause of a thunderstorm. I already uninstalled all drivers and ports in the device manager and let windows reinstall them, and still none of my hardware is recognized, not even my mouse. All drivers seem to be installed correctly. Can my usb ports be fried? I dunno.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell 4600 running XP Home and all my USB ports have suddenly stopped working. When I go to the device manager and expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers, each of the Intel(R) 8280 1EB VBB Universal Host Controller has a yellow exclamation mark beside them. When I check their status this is the message: Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19). I was not in the registry prior to this, so I don't know how it got damaged
I tried this: Click Uninstall, and then click Scan for hardware changes to load a usable driver ? no effect.
I tried this: Restart the computer in Safe Mode, and then select Last Known Good Configuration, which rolls back to the most recent successful registry configuration ? didn't fix the problem. Microsoft says that as a last resort, you can edit the registry directly ? but I not sure where and what to edit in the registry. If anyone can tell me what keys to edit in the registry I would very appreciative. I will do anything to avoid reinstall windows from scratch. I unfortuately didn't have system restore going so I cannot use that.
My Inspiron 6000 recently crashed and the dell tech support told me it was the hard drive. I ordered the new one and after putting it in, I still get the same message I got with the old one: "Internal HDD HARD error! No bootable devices--Strike F1 to try reboot, F2 to enter set-up utility"

I think it has something to do with this....especially the Multimedia Audio Controller one.
