For some bizarre reason, the Sounds and Audio Devices selection in the Control Panel does not respond when I double-click on it. The icon has also changed to a generic icon that I think means Windows can't recognize it.Sound works fine on the system; I can play CD's or whatever.

View 4 Replies View RelatedOn a users laptop (IBM Thinkpad) the playback button under Sounds and Audio Devices - sounds - program events is greyed out. They are able to hear sounds. I can play a sound file in Media Player,but no sound otherwise. Also, in Shockwave (I know, not a Microsoft product, but I am just listing this as a troubleshooting issue), they don't hear any sound when playing a.swf file.

View 13 Replies View RelatedThe odd thing is that I can still listen to music and watch movies and the sound works fine (I just have to go into the control panel to adjust the system volume).
I've tried reinstalling the audio drivers and it didn't work. I've also checked the "sounds and audio devices" and it lists the sound card under "sound playback" and "sound recording" however, under "voice" there is nothing listed and when I try to set it to the soundcard, it just goes blank again after I hit okay, close the window and open it again.
I have read a response to an question already posted that Bluetooth devices does not appear in the control panel until a device has been to the machine.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have lost my sound. The sounds icon in control panel say " no audio devices" AND the sound tab shows all listed devices as working porperly. I have deleted an sound object that allows it in device manager and allowed XP to load wht it will. I still have no sound. I checked for sound services in services and they are started as well.If I load Knoppix and test, my sounds work so I am assumming it is not a hardware problem.

As these are not sounds that I have loaded on to my machine, I am guessing that some other program did that for me.My question is.. Is there any program that I can run (like Event Viewer)that will display the event and the corresponding sound file (whether it's a wav or dll). Event Viewer doesn't give me this kind of detail and I am curious what is occurring when I hear these sounds.

Everytime i am downloading a file, if i play an audio file it will sound like the sounds keeps getting stuck and making a weird electric buzz then continues and repeats... how can I fix this? what extra info do you need?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to figure this problem out for a while.After a little break, im back on the search for the solution.I've noticed that a lot of people have had the same or similar issue, but the solutions that i've found havn't helped me out.I had an M-audio firewire 410 audio interface, and one day i stupidly unplugged it without first turning off my computer. Ever since that happened, my sound has stopped working, all options in "sounds and audio devices" are greyed out with 'no audio device' showing up. I've uninstalled all m-audio drivers including the hidden ones. I've uninstalled all of my motherboard audio drivers and re-installed them. I've reformatted my whole computer out of desperation and then re-installed the motherboards audio drivers. Still I have the same issue. When i click on the installed audio drivers, it says they are working properly.Is this a hardware issue? do i need a new motherboard?

I want a single desktop click to enable/disable windows XP taskbar auto hide.I can do this if I write a script for the AutoHotkey macro tool to open the relevant dialog box and then check or uncheck the appropriate check box.I'd like to open the dialog box with a command line from AutoHotkey, or a similar operation. Right-clicking the taskbar even in the program is uncool.The catch is, I can execute any CP dialog EXCEPT this one as a command line, either passing a dialog parameter to Control.exe or else using a *.cpl file name with Control.exe or directly. But I can't find "Taskbar and Start Menu".
View 1 Replies View RelatedVolume on my laptop does not work. When I click on my volume control I get the infamous error message. Full message: There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware. This program will now close." I've tried numerous searches on google/forums but nothing seems to work. I tried the services.msc, Ive tried the "machine.inf" copy/paste method. Tried to reset the BIOS to default in the setup menu (not sure if i really did this right but.). Nothing seems to be working.The sound worked before I had to delete the partition and reinstall Windows XP. Had a virus or something so I had to delete the partition and reinstall like I said. It's Windows XP Professional.I got the laptop from Cyberpowerpc.com. Phoenix brand motherboard (i think that is a brand, Everest said the BIOS type was phoenix anyway, it says the actual motherboard name is Unkown). When I bought it, the sound said: Built-In AC97 Sound Card if that helps. I was pretty sure I had "Realtek AC 97" Audio driver before the crash but I'm not 100% sure on that.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI can not get a photo or anything other than a "color" to be my desktop wallpaper. When I am in the control panel - display - the only buttons that are active are the "browse" and "color" buttons. The "position" button does not work. I can't even get one of the Windows backgrounds to display. The photo I choose to use is there somewhere because it is visible briefly when I start mycomputer. Then it disappears and is replaced by a "color" only screen.This is a very recent problem. I'm guessing some settings are incorrect.

Yesterday I visited a website and opened a file. After I did that, my wallpaper changed and it appeared to be whatever the website was. I was able to somehow get it off (don't ask me what I did, I couldn't tell you). Now, when I click on "Display" in the Control Panel and go to "Desk Top", the only thing that I can change is the color and I can also click on "Customize Desktop", but I cannot change the background or click on browse...".
