View 2 RepliesOn a users laptop (IBM Thinkpad) the playback button under Sounds and Audio Devices - sounds - program events is greyed out. They are able to hear sounds. I can play a sound file in Media Player,but no sound otherwise. Also, in Shockwave (I know, not a Microsoft product, but I am just listing this as a troubleshooting issue), they don't hear any sound when playing a.swf file.

Not the sound but the Email Notification. The program selections are half of what they were. I have used REgCure to fix a regisrty problem and had other problems that seem to be fixed but I can't understand this one.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFor some bizarre reason, the Sounds and Audio Devices selection in the Control Panel does not respond when I double-click on it. The icon has also changed to a generic icon that I think means Windows can't recognize it.Sound works fine on the system; I can play CD's or whatever.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have lost my sound. The sounds icon in control panel say " no audio devices" AND the sound tab shows all listed devices as working porperly. I have deleted an sound object that allows it in device manager and allowed XP to load wht it will. I still have no sound. I checked for sound services in services and they are started as well.If I load Knoppix and test, my sounds work so I am assumming it is not a hardware problem.

View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently I have been getting peculiar audio sounds at random. As these are not sounds that I have loaded on to my machine, I am guessing that some other program did that for me.My question is.. Is there any program that I can run (like Event Viewer)that will display the event and the corresponding sound file (whether it's a wav or dll). Event Viewer doesn't give me this kind of detail and I am curious what is occurring when I hear these sounds.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy audio and video has been EXTREMELY slow and choppy. I ran a DirectX diagnostic and came up with the following error:
Directplay test results: Failure at step 9 HRESULT=0x80158185(error code)
The odd thing is that I can still listen to music and watch movies and the sound works fine (I just have to go into the control panel to adjust the system volume).
I've tried reinstalling the audio drivers and it didn't work. I've also checked the "sounds and audio devices" and it lists the sound card under "sound playback" and "sound recording" however, under "voice" there is nothing listed and when I try to set it to the soundcard, it just goes blank again after I hit okay, close the window and open it again.
Everytime i am downloading a file, if i play an audio file it will sound like the sounds keeps getting stuck and making a weird electric buzz then continues and repeats... how can I fix this? what extra info do you need?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to figure this problem out for a while.After a little break, im back on the search for the solution.I've noticed that a lot of people have had the same or similar issue, but the solutions that i've found havn't helped me out.I had an M-audio firewire 410 audio interface, and one day i stupidly unplugged it without first turning off my computer. Ever since that happened, my sound has stopped working, all options in "sounds and audio devices" are greyed out with 'no audio device' showing up. I've uninstalled all m-audio drivers including the hidden ones. I've uninstalled all of my motherboard audio drivers and re-installed them. I've reformatted my whole computer out of desperation and then re-installed the motherboards audio drivers. Still I have the same issue. When i click on the installed audio drivers, it says they are working properly.Is this a hardware issue? do i need a new motherboard?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had a playlist running on WMP and all of a sudden one of the songs started being really choppy and kept stopping, etc.When I reboot my computer, it takes AT LEAST 10 minutes until I get to the desktop and can fully work on it. It spends minutes on the opening screen with the Windows XP thing running left to right
I'm working on it now and it's going fine. Whenever I open a program though it takes a long time but ends up working ok. I can't do anything when I open a song or video.
I just got a new computer with an AMD Duron processor, 512 M RAM and Windows XP. Only problem is I've got no audio. I've checked BIOS and sound is enabled but Windows doesn't seem to recognize that the speakers are hooked up. When I tried to play system sounds from the Control Panel, I got an error message that said cannot play sound, your sound card may be in use. The computer was a gift that was bought used and the shop didn't have any documentation with the system. I think this might be a driver issue but I'm not sure how to find out which driver to try.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI've been unable to get any of the system sounds (the startup and shut down chords, the classic Windows "ding", and soforth) to, well, sound (either when the should normally occur, or via the Control Panel). They will still play via Media Player, as will any other audio file. In addition, I'm not getting any sound on Flash media of any type.
I've tried a few solutions to this problem suggested on other forums:
* Uninstalling and reinstalling my sound card driver.
* Using a program called K-Lite to try and fix problems with the system sound.
* Trying a number of the registry edits at Kelly's Korner. ( http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs.htm )
* Resetting the QuickTime options for the music synthesiser from QuickTime's own to the "General MIDI"
* Repairing and reinstalling Windows.

View 6 Replies View Relatedjust recently experienced a no audio problem on my computer. Originally had a c-media card installed with everything working ok , then suddenly no sounds at all. Removed card and installed spare Sound Blaster Audigy and downloaded latest drivers. Everything installed ok. No conflicts in Device Manager, proper card identified in control panel/sounds. Windows sound on reboot , but after reboot nothing again. After countless removal of sound card in Device Manager and re-installing drivers , no change. Removed card and re-verted back to on board audio. Realtek high definition audio with latest and original cd AC-97 drivers. Now no audio device available in Control panel/sounds. Within the Realtek HD Audio Control panel I can test speakers and hear sound ok.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just started experiencing this problem last night and I've tried to fix it, and at some times it seems like the problem is gone but then I'll do something else and it'll come back.Anyways basically I was listening to my itunes last night, and all of a sudden the songs started to cut out...like the sound would go dead for a few seconds, and then come back...so I switched songs, thinking maybe it was just a problem with the mp3 file. But it did that with all the other songs I tried playing too, so I was like okay well something is definitely wrong here.
