View 4 RepliesI have lost a number of Sounds in my Window XP sp3. My Start Up Sounds, the Recyle Bin (Empting) gone? I GO TO THE CONTROL PANEL AND THE OPTIONS UNDER (SOUNDS AND DEVICES) HAVE BEEN SOMEHOW DELETED? I USED MY (XP INSTALLATION0 DISC AND PERFORMED A (REPAIR) HOPING TO RESTORE THE (DEFAULT SOUNDS OFFERED IN XP)?
View 13 Replies View RelatedFor some bizarre reason, the Sounds and Audio Devices selection in the Control Panel does not respond when I double-click on it. The icon has also changed to a generic icon that I think means Windows can't recognize it.Sound works fine on the system; I can play CD's or whatever.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently noticed I have duplicate icons :how I can get rid of one please ? Both are clickable and provide the same function as usual.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have become quite irritated by the various strange noises which happen at a "system event". I have found the dialogue box where additional events can be added to the sounds but I cannot see how to turn off the ones already there. I do not want to use "mute all" on the volume control as I frequently listen to music.
Any suggestions welcome.
While in that area of the screen, I want to remove some of the icons. The dialogue box is set to "always hide" the offending Icons but they are still showing.
The odd thing is that I can still listen to music and watch movies and the sound works fine (I just have to go into the control panel to adjust the system volume).
I've tried reinstalling the audio drivers and it didn't work. I've also checked the "sounds and audio devices" and it lists the sound card under "sound playback" and "sound recording" however, under "voice" there is nothing listed and when I try to set it to the soundcard, it just goes blank again after I hit okay, close the window and open it again.
Windows Folder Options Contents..downloads all sorts of images from Internet. I have checked the box Disable Cached Thumbnails in Control Panel Folders Options but now how do you remove all the images?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI own at Pentium 4 XP Home Edition PC. Recently, I lost all of my default system sounds--like boot up sound and closing sound. The sound card is okay, because I can play CDs, listen to Real Player and otherwise get sounds.
I have gone into the sounds and audio devices properties panel and don't seem to be able to set it to play the sounds. The test button works the sounds fine, but I cannot actually activate them!
I have troubleshooted by surfing the web, installing various supposed registry fixes. I have also read the Microsoft data base articles that seem to pertain.
I no longer have any system sounds i.e logon, logoff. checked 'Sounds and Audio Devices' in control panel possibly where problem is all other sounds work okay. However in 'Sounds and Audio Devices' on Audio TAB on Sound Playback Default Device is Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio normal. On Sound Recording Default Device is Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio normal. But MIDI music Playback Default Device is blank? Dropdown offers two choices but when I close it and re-open it is blank again I've tried taking TICK out of "Use Only Default devices but when re-opened is back in

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have lost my system sounds, a game's sounds, and internet sounds. Itunes, WMP, and e-mail sounds work just fine. I have updated Adobe Flashplayer and downloaded K Lite Codec Tweak Tool.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have checked every setting I know of but nothing seems to get my system sounds to work. This all started when I upgraded from W98 Snd. Edition with new mother board memory and hard drive. Have also installed all SP2 updates with no other problems.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAt boot up everything seems ok, the nice WinXP jingle plays and all is right with the world. At this point I can play MP3s, video files, and games and the sound works ok. Now occasionally (more often than not) the screen does a very strange refresh about 2 to 3 minutes of the computer being booted. Any open widows and the task bar reverts to Windows 98 look (grey with the old fasioned functionality boxes at the top right of an open window) then as quicky as it changes it all changes back again (say less than half a second) to WinXP look.
After this point only system sounds will play. Now if a programme already has access to the sound device then it works until it is shut down. Anything that tries to access the sound device after this fails to (itunes says there is an audio config error, WMP says that another programme has access to the sound device). I guess whatever that refresh thingy is it is stopping any other programme accessing the driver or preventing the driver to be released to other programmes.
I want to eliminate Sound Themes on my Windows xps 400. They are irritating.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've literally just started having problems with my computer. Sporadically I have lost the ability to right-click, sometimes whenever I do so on either a folder or on an application, no little menu comes up
Also, when browsing through folders, the loading starts to become very slow and sometimes the blue menu at the side of the window isn't there at all. When I click on images to preview, or folders to open, sometimes nothing happens at all and the window just remains the same.
ALSO whilst trying to open some applications I get the error pop-up sound, but no error message box comes up to tell me what the error is. It just makes the noise, and I close the half-loaded application without it crashing (This happened with Photoshop, Adaware, Outlook Express, and once with Sonic RecordNow - all started loading, the error noise was heard, and the program left half loaded or missing parts) I've tried again and it seems it's all hit and miss like the other symptoms...sometimes i'll be able to right-click normally, sometimes i'll be able to browse files normally, sometimes programs will load, but the problem still (at random moments, it seems) arises again.
When Alt Ctrl Delete -ing, either nothing comes up and an error noise is heard, or the little window with the information does come up, but the desktop behind it flickers as if constantly reloading very fast.
The only error sound in which a box popped up, was one telling me "xvidcore.dll was not found". I clicked OK and everything reloaded as if windows explorer had crashed (the start bar, desktop etc).
I haven't done anything as of now, too scared to restart, or try and open any applications it might not like. I can't be exactly sure when I started to have problems, as I leave the computer on for days at a time sometimes (it's been running for about four days this time, about three days is normally the maximum) because I use BitTorrent a lot seeding and downloading.
Last night I burned a cd using WMP 9 and everything was fine. It was done in about 10 min, then afterwards I closed everything and turned my computer off. This morning I started it up, and tryed to play a computer game. All of the sounds were slowed down to about 50%. I quit that and went to WMP to see if those sounds worked. They all played at 50% too. All of the sounds in windows do the same thing.

I get an error message "C00D11D1:cannot play file". When i go into Control PanelSounds and Audio Devices it is telling me that there is no audio recording device or playback device installed
Is there any way to turn off the dialup sound on win xp when you try to connect to the internet on a dell computer? I went in to modems and turned off volume but I still get the sounds.

I can play a sound file in Media Player, but no sound otherwise. Also, in Shockwave (I know, not a Microsoft product, but I am just listing this as a troubleshooting issue), they don't hear any sound when playing a.swf file.

View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently I have been getting peculiar audio sounds at random. As these are not sounds that I have loaded on to my machine, I am guessing that some other program did that for me.My question is.. Is there any program that I can run (like Event Viewer)that will display the event and the corresponding sound file (whether it's a wav or dll). Event Viewer doesn't give me this kind of detail and I am curious what is occurring when I hear these sounds.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from SE to XP home. SB Live sound card and updated driver work fine in all sounds EXCEPT on Windows start up and shutdown, there are no music.Check the .wav files and when I click on them directly or in the Control Panel/Sounds, they play just fine. But not on startup or shutdown of windows. They worked just fine in SE.

I use xp pro and have Microsoft PLUS installed wich gives me a few extra themes to choose from. Everything works great except when i log in or out of windows i dont get any sounds, no matter what theme i use. It used to work fine and i am not sure exactly when it stopped.
I checked my sounds configuration and i can play the start up and shutdown sounds by testing them but they wont work when actually starting or shutting down windows. Even if i just use the regular XP theme i still dont get any sound.
