Last night I burned a cd using WMP 9 and everything was fine. It was done in about 10 min, then afterwards I closed everything and turned my computer off. This morning I started it up, and tryed to play a computer game. All of the sounds were slowed down to about 50%. I quit that and went to WMP to see if those sounds worked. They all played at 50% too. All of the sounds in windows do the same thing.

View 14 Replies View RelatedThe computer is slow to load windows 2000. Takes several mintues to connect to the net. Message showing that "Virtual Memory is low". Have gone into "My computer" - then "advanced options" and increased virtual memory to 1500. There is a good amount of space on the disc. But actions made no difference and still get the message that the virtual memory is low. Speed of computer has not improved.Will try "System restore".
My computer has 66gb of space. a few days ago, when i checked,it had 33gb of free space.since then, i updated my adobe reader, and i also upgraded my antivirus to Norton Antivirus 2007. Now there appears to be only 22gb of free space.Is this normal? Now( i think As a result,of this upgrading), my computer now is really slow to startup,and just as slow when reloading from a hibernated state. is there anything i can do to speed up the computer startup,or is there something wrong?

The keyboard died, so I bought a new cheapie that connects via USB. And I still have the wireless mouse. Since the change, my computer has slowed horribly, with keyboard and mouse commands, in particular, taking too long to register. I have removed the Logitech Itouch keyboard software (not the Mouseware),and installed the new keyboard software. I have defragged, scanned for viruses, and used Ad-Aware and Spy Sweeper to see if I had some clogging spyware.

I removed and reconnected the battery to shut down and restart.Well, since then my computer has been unbearably slow. Every task from start-up (20 minutes, if at all) to loading Firefox (10 minutes) in awful. There are times where nothing even loads, all I see is my background and a cursor, nothing more.On the lucky chance that I do get everything up and running, it is slow to the point where even the clock is behind other clocks around me (cable box, other laptop) by 8-20 or so minutes.

View 5 Replies View Relatedi normally run on a linspire pre-loaded machine, but due to the heatsink on its way out have been using my secondary backup windows machine: http://littlurl.com/aw9rw there has been no issue for a while, however about 2 weeks going into 3 now.i've not been able to hear any sounds out of my speakers (Internet, cnn news, etc.)except if i used windows media player, cd's and any internal/preloaded sounds worked fine, as well as any 'testing'no yellow ! or errors were seen, or are seen currently.i began to muck about in the system files,the ultimate troubleshooter is an awesome program.and ended up tossing the system restore disks in.which seemed to just place another load of the os onto the hd.as a simple glance into the file system shows an owner and fred flintstone -(previous admin i was working under) besides the 'new' addition of mine.is it possible to have overlapping or multiple layers of an os on the same hd like this?i have sound only through wmp still.have downloaded and burned a copy of gparted to facilitate a clean sweep of the hd if needed to do a fresh/clean install.

It takes a very long time to even load the interface fully. Most of the programs in Startup (MSConfig)also do not load. I have recently installed Norton 2005. I have scanned the system for Trojans, viruses, SpywareAdware etc. But nothing shows up. Is it because of NAV?? MSConfig/Startup also does not have any unknown entries.

View 9 Replies View RelatedUnusually slow system; unsure where to go from here.machine runs very slowly for the processor and for the amount of processes running.There is some degree of visual skipping/slowness,it is particularly apparent with audio and visual media. Even the startup sound is very drawn out and is characterized by a long, skipping echo. Music skips randomly and even alert noises, (such as the one heard when ending a process) has the same skipping/echo. This happens even when there are few apparent processes running and very little CPU usage (such as 5%), as well as when the system is overloaded (which happens remarkably quickly for the 20-30 processes running).

I gets to the desk top pritty quick but I cant use anything for about 30 mins.So far I have deleted some old programs ran disk clean up on both drives. There is not much on my computre and and my C drive is less then half full. I ran a full virus scan and it was all clear. I only have one anti virus and no firewall.
