I have Windows XP Service Pack 1 installed. I am trying to clean the temp
directory but I am being told that the files are in use. I have diabled
everything including the internet and still get this.It has slowed my computer down and it is only 1 yeear old and I can not do much.
Have Windows XP Home Ed (Serv Pack 2)
Have a number of "Temp" directories on the C root directory (Directory names such as: "Adobe Acrobat.temp" - "Console.temp" - "Display.temp" - "DLA Writing.temp" - "McAfee.temp" - "Intel chipset.temp").
Near as I can tell these directories were created when I installed these programs, but not completely sure.
I have learned the hard way that, "Not all temp directories can or should be deleted."

View 2 Replies View RelatedAll aplications that use the temp directory are crashing on my computer. It only happens when I am logged into my account (so if logged in as another user the system works fine). If I try to view the temp directory then explorer crashes as soon as the mouse hovers over the folder icon. I have tried disk cleanup, it crashes. Using cmd prompt "dir %temp%" it crashes too. I have run NOD32 antivirus and it finds nothing. I have tried XoftSpy and Search and Destroy but they both crash. I have tried safe mode and that is no good either! I have logged into administrator and tried to view and delete the temp folder but that also fails!.Have you heard of this before, I did read a forum (not here) where someone had the exact same problem but it went unsolved. Could it be a virus that NOD32 can't detect?

View 4 Replies View RelatedFor some reason I am now accumulating temp files in my Windows emp directory at a rate of 2 EVERY 2 minutes. They are 0kb in size and consist of nothing if I open them in notepad. They are named along the lines of A401 or B01 and I don't know where they're coming from. I see no unknown processes in taskmanager and I have virus checked and adaware&spybot checked my system to no avail. I left my PC (which is standalone and not connected to the Internet) running overnight, doing nothing, and there were over a 1000 temp files the next day.

View 14 Replies View RelatedLast night I burned a cd using WMP 9 and everything was fine. It was done in about 10 min, then afterwards I closed everything and turned my computer off. This morning I started it up, and tryed to play a computer game. All of the sounds were slowed down to about 50%. I quit that and went to WMP to see if those sounds worked. They all played at 50% too. All of the sounds in windows do the same thing.

Have gone into "My computer" - then "advanced options" and increased virtual memory to 1500. There is a good amount of space on the disc. But actions made no difference and still get the message that the virtual memory is low. Speed of computer has not improved.Will try "System restore".
My computer has 66gb of space. a few days ago, when i checked,it had 33gb of free space.since then, i updated my adobe reader, and i also upgraded my antivirus to Norton Antivirus 2007. Now there appears to be only 22gb of free space.Is this normal? Now( i think As a result,of this upgrading), my computer now is really slow to startup,and just as slow when reloading from a hibernated state. is there anything i can do to speed up the computer startup,or is there something wrong?

The keyboard died, so I bought a new cheapie that connects via USB. And I still have the wireless mouse. Since the change, my computer has slowed horribly, with keyboard and mouse commands, in particular, taking too long to register. I have removed the Logitech Itouch keyboard software (not the Mouseware),and installed the new keyboard software. I removed and reconnected the battery to shut down and restart.Well, since then my computer has been unbearably slow. Every task from start-up (20 minutes, if at all) to loading Firefox (10 minutes) in awful. View 10 Replies View RelatedI need to know if I clean out the administration ID on a computer, if the other ID’s are also cleaned out at the same time, I have never had to maintain a computer with more than one ID, although I have used and added programs to one.I ask as the other ID’s of course do not have the permissions that the Administration ID has, and the other ID's stop me doing some stuff.Is the only way to clean the other ID’s out is by making them temporary Administrators? It has grown increasingly slower in response time (ie. IE "churns" for 20-30 seconds before opening). I suspect that I have a lot of garbage loaded at start and other processes running that I don't need. How can cleaning this up?
My daughters computer has something called "Trojan horse downloader Generic 4.ZQI, this has caused all sorts of problems with connecting onto the internet and has slowed the computer.
