View 5 Replies View RelatedI lost power this morning. I rebooted and everything was fine all day. Then after being off the computer for an hour or so (but my brother was on), it went nuts! Many things went back to the way they were 3 or 4 weeks ago: I've lost several away messages on AIM and some old ones are suddenly back. My little drop-down history bar thing on IE has URLS i haven't gone to in a few weeks and doesn't have ones I was at today. I'm missing a few programs I recently downloaded. (Like AdAware and yahtzee.) But my wallpaper, favorites, emails and most other files are as they should be.

View 14 Replies View RelatedLast night I burned a cd using WMP 9 and everything was fine. It was done in about 10 min, then afterwards I closed everything and turned my computer off. This morning I started it up, and tryed to play a computer game. All of the sounds were slowed down to about 50%. I quit that and went to WMP to see if those sounds worked. They all played at 50% too. All of the sounds in windows do the same thing.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe computer is slow to load windows 2000. Takes several mintues to connect to the net. Message showing that "Virtual Memory is low". Have gone into "My computer" - then "advanced options" and increased virtual memory to 1500. There is a good amount of space on the disc. But actions made no difference and still get the message that the virtual memory is low. Speed of computer has not improved.Will try "System restore".
My computer has 66gb of space. a few days ago, when i checked,it had 33gb of free space.since then, i updated my adobe reader, and i also upgraded my antivirus to Norton Antivirus 2007. Now there appears to be only 22gb of free space.Is this normal? Now( i think As a result,of this upgrading), my computer now is really slow to startup,and just as slow when reloading from a hibernated state. is there anything i can do to speed up the computer startup,or is there something wrong?

The keyboard died, so I bought a new cheapie that connects via USB. And I still have the wireless mouse. Since the change, my computer has slowed horribly, with keyboard and mouse commands, in particular, taking too long to register. I have removed the Logitech Itouch keyboard software (not the Mouseware),and installed the new keyboard software. I have defragged, scanned for viruses, and used Ad-Aware and Spy Sweeper to see if I had some clogging spyware.

I removed and reconnected the battery to shut down and restart.Well, since then my computer has been unbearably slow. Every task from start-up (20 minutes, if at all) to loading Firefox (10 minutes) in awful. It takes a very long time to even load the interface fully. Most of the programs in Startup (MSConfig)also do not load. I have recently installed Norton 2005. I have scanned the system for Trojans, viruses, SpywareAdware etc. But nothing shows up. Is it because of NAV?? MSConfig/Startup also does not have any unknown entries.

The box opens quickly but the drives take 20 seconds to show up. I have disabled windows image aquisition service and turned off Automatically search for network drives and folders. This computer is used to connect to three different hospitals websites with citrix and other web based portals. Is it possible that some of the active x controls that make it possible for the desktop to log in securely to the hospitals have caused this issue? If so how can I fix it without a reformat.

The numlock and scroll lock keys beep and light up on and off continuosly; if I try to open any Windows programs, ALL of the Windows programs start to pop open all over the desktop; it won't even dial the internet connection, so I can't get online. It won't go on standby by itself, and if I choose standby on the shutdown menu, it goes into standby for about 5 minutes and then goes back to the desktop, even after I've logged off!
I am able to open any games or programs that aren't Microsoft without other programs popping open, but the numlock and scroll lock keys still flash and beep all the time.
I have Earthlink ISP and use their anti-virus, pop-up blocker, spyblocker, spam filter, and firewall, along with Ad-aware and Xoftspy. No viruses or spyware are found when I run them.
I am having some problems with my computer and cant really pinpoint the problem.the computer is a Q6600 - but when opening a program, opening a file from a program, there is always a lag, it would freeze for 5 to 10 seconds before anything happens. I suspected adware/virus, but it's not. I tried installing a fresh copy of windows XP onto a new hard drive, but the lag/slow problem is still there, usually it takes no more than 30 minutes to install windows, but it took over 1hr 30 mins to install.I am thinking hard ware issue, I've tried replacing the RAMs, but still the same, now im thinking maybe the powersupply.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I open certain folders in my computer, these folder tend to take ages to load. I checked the graph in the performance window (Ctrl+Alt+Del) but there was no suddeny increase of CPU usage. Others folder is normal, I double click and it show nicely. Just for certain folder. Is it because of the number of files in the folder? It dont happen when I open my C: drive but if i open that particular folder. The windows explorer just stop responding.. and i had to wait for it to come out. If i access a folder under it and hit back or up, again it will stuck there again n wait for it to load.
