I've been having terrible problems with my computer. I'm running windows XP. I cannot launch anything from the desktop nor access system restore. Alswhen i'm online the pages are staggered as i scrawl down. View 14 RepliesI was on my pc, browing online with Firefox, and all of a sudden my PC froze. No key commands would work at all, so I had to power off the PC and reboot. At this point, one of several things keeps happening when I try and restart. Either I get no signal to the monitor, I get signal and it boots up normally until right before it gets to the Windows screen (black screen), or it boots up completely normal and I use it for a few minutes and it freezes completely again. Now, which one of the above happens seems to depend how long I leave the PC off for. If I try to reboot right away, I don't get as far - either no signal at all or it goes through the DOS startup stuff. If I leave it off for an hour or more, I can actually log-in to Windows, but it freezes after about 5 minutes. Seems like there becomes a problem after it warms up?

View 14 Replies View RelatedLast night I burned a cd using WMP 9 and everything was fine. It was done in about 10 min, then afterwards I closed everything and turned my computer off. This morning I started it up, and tryed to play a computer game. All of the sounds were slowed down to about 50%. I quit that and went to WMP to see if those sounds worked. They all played at 50% too. All of the sounds in windows do the same thing.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI posted this in the hardware forum, but since I posted that thread other things have been happening that make me think it could be a virus.My mouse was working fine up until last night, when my computer started behaving strangely. I would move my mouse across my desk and it would work fine, before the cursor simply stopped moving. I was still moving my mouse, but the cursor wasn't moving at all. It does this in every direction, and it happens at random times. I thought it might just be a problem with the optical tracking, but something else is happening today too. Whenever the cursor stops moving the mouse sometimes jumps to another part of the screen, this also occurs randomly. Even if I'm moving the mouse right it could jump to the lower left hand corner of the screen. It also clicks itself randomly, both left and right clicks. This means it's not just a problem with the optical tracking. I'm a big FPS player, so this isn't exactly what I need, especially when my gun fires randomly and the mouse stops tracking in a firefight.

View 6 Replies View RelatedThe computer is slow to load windows 2000. Takes several mintues to connect to the net. Message showing that "Virtual Memory is low". Have gone into "My computer" - then "advanced options" and increased virtual memory to 1500. There is a good amount of space on the disc. But actions made no difference and still get the message that the virtual memory is low. Speed of computer has not improved.Will try "System restore".
My computer has 66gb of space. a few days ago, when i checked,it had 33gb of free space.since then, i updated my adobe reader, and i also upgraded my antivirus to Norton Antivirus 2007. Now there appears to be only 22gb of free space.Is this normal? Now( i think As a result,of this upgrading), my computer now is really slow to startup,and just as slow when reloading from a hibernated state. is there anything i can do to speed up the computer startup,or is there something wrong?

But when I close the folder and go backin later the folder has reverted back to how it looked originally.When I open internet explorer it sometimes comes up as a fully openwindow and other times as a window that only covers half my screen. and no matter what i do it never seems to remember to expand the window.I have a four speaker setup but every so often the Audio controlsswitch it back to 2 speaker. The keyboard died, so I bought a new cheapie that connects via USB. And I still have the wireless mouse. Since the change, my computer has slowed horribly, with keyboard and mouse commands, in particular, taking too long to register. I have removed the Logitech Itouch keyboard software (not the Mouseware),and installed the new keyboard software. I have defragged, scanned for viruses, and used Ad-Aware and Spy Sweeper to see if I had some clogging spyware.

I removed and reconnected the battery to shut down and restart.Well, since then my computer has been unbearably slow. Every task from start-up (20 minutes, if at all) to loading Firefox (10 minutes) in awful. There are times where nothing even loads, all I see is my background and a cursor, nothing more.On the lucky chance that I do get everything up and running, it is slow to the point where even the clock is behind other clocks around me (cable box, other laptop) by 8-20 or so minutes.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI keep crashing every time i pretty much load something up such as a game, msn crashed, basically the computer is just crashing when i am running big things or not even big things.Familiar problem?I get messages such as Nv4_disp.dll when i crash after trying to load a game up.Obviously a problem with the video card here but what confused me now is that when msn crashed the computer or even internet explorer once i got these 2 messages as well when the comp flashed its blue screen.Win32k.sys Page_faults_IN_NONpaged_Area.At the bottom it usually will say something like begging physical memory dump and then some numbers just keep increasing until i just restart my computer.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI just got my SP2 CD in the mail today from Microsoft. I put the CD in, and it runs through the steps, and then it asks to reboot, I click okay. The computer will reboot to the second black screen, then then it will have the XP logo and under it: "Please wait...", and i let my computer sit like that for about 2 hours, and nothing happened. So I manually shut the computer off, when in, and unstalled it, and then put the disk back in and when through the wizard. The same exact thing happened, and I waited 2 hours and nothing happens, so I had to manually reboot.
