I just got my SP2 CD in the mail today from Microsoft. I put the CD in, and it runs through the steps, and then it asks to reboot, I click okay. The computer will reboot to the second black screen, then then it will have the XP logo and under it: "Please wait...", and i let my computer sit like that for about 2 hours, and nothing happened. So I manually shut the computer off, when in, and unstalled it, and then put the disk back in and when through the wizard. The same exact thing happened, and I waited 2 hours and nothing happens, so I had to manually reboot.
When I start up my computer I receive the following message:C:program1 ewdot~1 ewdot~2.dll Is this an important file? Any suggestions or solutions? Tried reinstalling windows xp but the system says I am running a newer version and won't let me install.
can I stop xp from trying to install an old programme? which doesn't work and I can't delete? I have a copy of roxio media creator which doesn't work since I reset windows to an earlier point, the prog can't find a certificate and questions the system date so won't install. it won't delete either for the same reasons and every time I try to copy files it tries to install the damn thing, unsuccessfully
I was on my pc, browing online with Firefox, and all of a sudden my PC froze. No key commands would work at all, so I had to power off the PC and reboot. At this point, one of several things keeps happening when I try and restart. Either I get no signal to the monitor, I get signal and it boots up normally until right before it gets to the Windows screen (black screen), or it boots up completely normal and I use it for a few minutes and it freezes completely again. Now, which one of the above happens seems to depend how long I leave the PC off for. If I try to reboot right away, I don't get as far - either no signal at all or it goes through the DOS startup stuff. If I leave it off for an hour or more, I can actually log-in to Windows, but it freezes after about 5 minutes. Seems like there becomes a problem after it warms up?
When I send e-mail to MSWish@Microsoft.com,it gets returned to me with a DIFFERENT e-mail address that the one I sent it to.It comes back showing the e-mail address I supposedly used as MSWwish@Microsoft.com. Wrong! My messages did not have the extra W.Nevertheless, I can't seem to locate Microsoft Wish. The link I found on Microsoft's web site that read "How to contact the Microsoft Wish Program" took me to a web page that did not offer a clue how to contact Microsoft Wish.
alright so i have windows xp professional and it has about 18.6GB and I only have 3.9GB that isn't taken up How can i increase my free space again? I have no idea where the other 15GBs went. When I try Disk Cleanup it doesn't work.
I've been having terrible problems with my computer. I'm running windows XP. I cannot launch anything from the desktop nor access system restore. Alswhen i'm online the pages are staggered as i scrawl down. Win XP Pro I know that I'm supposed to hit the F8 key at the "right" moment - just before windows actually starts. But everytime I do it, I either hit it too soon and land up being asked which boot device I want, or it's too late and Windows has already started Is there another method of booting into safe mode other than trying to hit f8 at the "exact right moment"?
while it looks like it has loaded fine, it appears that I am able to create some kind of error where another of the exact piece I'm moving is created. This new piece then replaces another piece, seemingly at random, rendering the puzzle unable to be completed since it is now missing a piece and with one duplicate piece. I've cleared the cache for all three browsers constantly, and set my javascript to not store any files on my computer so that it loads the puzzles every time, but it still gives me that error.
I've come to realise it might be an issue with my version of java, which is kind of hilarious seeing that the old versions seem to work fine, but the latest version won't. (Using build 1.6.0_20-b02) Uninstalled all my Java, installed a version that works on another computer (build 1.6.0_17-b04), with the same error
I have a laptop with a partitioned HD. All of the data (operating sytem, documents, etc...) are on the small partition, and now I'm out of space. What's the easiest way to:
1. transfer everything on the smaller partition (operating sys included) to the larger partition and boot from there - OR -
2. make an exact copy of the smaller partition, reformat the drive without a partition, and replace the data. I'm running Windows XP Professional.
I bought speakers and cannot hear a thing. I get this error mesage that says there are no active mixer devices available and then i got another one that said no audio devices currently installed on your machine. I did all the steps in the support/help area but nothing works. ALso, when I try to adjust the volume the area is light gray and you cannot click on it to adjust.
For some reason CTRL + ALT + DEL doesn't do anything on my computer. i don't even know the proper term for what it does do, but i would appreciate any explanation alternative.
I have a Dell Latitude C810 laptop running Win Xp every now and then it just locks up. I am unable to use the keyboard or mouse if attached. I then have to power down and restart, There appears to be no pattern to when it hangs/locks up.

If i double click the icon on the destop it opens a command window with the message, waits for input, i type a number and press enter and then the same message apears on the following line, i type again, press enter and the same thing happens. It doesn't work. If i enter in Total Commander go to the desktop dir and execute the same batch file. IT IS THE EXACT SAME FILE

i have windows on automatic updates and today when i went to install updates it seamed to work fine but now, it says i never updated and it just keeps redownloading the same thing.. i've installed at least 3 times and still the same updates say need to be installed any ideas why? thx. -cnelons.
Sounds strange but awhile back I selected always use this program from a menu that popped up when I put in a DVD. Now I want to be able to get that window back. I put a check mark in that box that said don't ask again or something to that effect.
I lost power this morning. I rebooted and everything was fine all day. Then after being off the computer for an hour or so (but my brother was on), it went nuts! Many things went back to the way they were 3 or 4 weeks ago: I've lost several away messages on AIM and some old ones are suddenly back. My little drop-down history bar thing on IE has URLS i haven't gone to in a few weeks and doesn't have ones I was at today. I'm missing a few programs I recently downloaded. (Like AdAware and yahtzee.) But my wallpaper, favorites, emails and most other files are as they should be.
In case a disaster occurs i need a copy of everything on my pc. i don't know if i need a backup or an image. i want to be able to res0ore thed whole thing or specificpats. if a file gets corrupted i want to be able to restore that file or if the mail goes bad, to be able to restoe thec whole or part of the mail. could you recommend a program to use? i'mnot worfking so if possible free.
I now have another computer to use. This computer is almost new and was given to me by my mother. My problem is everything looks large and the computer moves really slow. I have no idea of the problem and I would also like to remove SUPERAntiSpyware from the cpu and have no idea how.
Had a problem about a month ago with some things on here so i formatted the hdd and installed winxp pro. Was going ok for about a week then the error messages were non stop. Kept saying windows had to shut down because of a hardware problem, yet never did find out what it was. Anyways i did a total format and am trying to instal winxp again. I have a win98se boot disk. It gets half way through the installation then i get all kinds of error messages about files couldn't be loaded or files not found. Don't these files come from the cd?? it is a original cd that i have. some of the msg are: file i386halacpi.dll not found, syntax error in the .sif file and the list goes on then it says setup cannot continue.
I have an emachine that is a few years old that my high school daughter uses. Today when she was typing a paper for school it got stuck on all caps, then it just quit working all together. I took the keyboard and put it on my computer and it works fine. My keyboard doesn't work on her computer either. I restarted which didn't help. I also retored the computer to yesterday's back up. That didn't work either. This computer does have some age on it but I was hoping to get it to last her until she gets that college laptop.
I want to reformat my hard drive, including windows xp. I know this will erase ALL information. that's what I want. Are there any free programs to download or is there a utility already present to do this.
I have My Documents and Sheila's Documents. both files have the exact same files and folders in them. may I safely eliminate one of them? if I eliminate one of them which one would be preferable? will it be ebuilt after I eliminate it?
