I have a Dell Latitude C810 laptop running Win Xp every now and then it just locks up. I am unable to use the keyboard or mouse if attached. I then have to power down and restart, There appears to be no pattern to when it hangs/locks up.

I get this error mesage that says there are no active mixer devices available and then i got another one that said no audio devices currently installed on your machine. I did all the steps in the support/help area but nothing works. ALso, when I try to adjust the volume the area is light gray and you cannot click on it to adjust.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed SP2 and now everytime I turn on my computer, the explorer shell crashes. Leaving me with no icons/startmenu.
Now I suppose I could easily uninstall SP2 but I need it for media center upgrades with a xbox 360 and such.
I just got my SP2 CD in the mail today from Microsoft. I put the CD in, and it runs through the steps, and then it asks to reboot, I click okay. The computer will reboot to the second black screen, then then it will have the XP logo and under it: "Please wait...", and i let my computer sit like that for about 2 hours, and nothing happened. So I manually shut the computer off, when in, and unstalled it, and then put the disk back in and when through the wizard. The same exact thing happened, and I waited 2 hours and nothing happens, so I had to manually reboot.

Many things went back to the way they were 3 or 4 weeks ago: I've lost several away messages on AIM and some old ones are suddenly back. My little drop-down history bar thing on IE has URLS i haven't gone to in a few weeks and doesn't have ones I was at today. I'm missing a few programs I recently downloaded. Was going ok for about a week then the error messages were non stop. Kept saying windows had to shut down because of a hardware problem, yet never did find out what it was. Anyways i did a total format and am trying to instal winxp again. I have a win98se boot disk. It gets half way through the installation then i get all kinds of error messages about files couldn't be loaded or files not found. Don't these files come from the cd?? it is a original cd that i have. some of the msg are: file i386halacpi.dll not found, syntax error in the .sif file and the list goes on then it says setup cannot continue.

Today when she was typing a paper for school it got stuck on all caps, then it just quit working all together. I took the keyboard and put it on my computer and it works fine. My keyboard doesn't work on her computer either. I restarted which didn't help. I also retored the computer to yesterday's back up. That didn't work either. This happens in Notepad, in a webbrowser (Firefox), bascially anywhere there is text you may want to copy.xFor emaple, if I want to copy the sentence above and I start at the beginning of the sentence, here's what happens:1) Sometimes it will "highlight" everything as I drag but then goes away once I let go of the left button2) Sometimes it skips letters or words. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Lap top with Windows 2000 Pro on it. When booting up, the computer will go through all its normal start-up procedures. When it comes time for the Username/Password, I put them in, I hear the wave sound for windows loading, and then it freezes! The hour glass cursor remains on the screen and moves, only NOTHING happens from there on.
However,I can get it to boot normally after this by shutting it down.... then going into the Bios Set-up screen.....Change NOTHING & simply exit out of the Bios Set-up......THEN it will start normally and bring up the Desktop! BUT....if I shut it down again, It will freeze right after the Log-in just like before. Im tired of always having to go into the Bios to get this darn thing to work
I'm having problems with computer freezing when I multi task. Hitting the ctrl alt delete will bring it back. I have a compaq 64 bit with 512 mb. This only seems to happen when I'm using internet explorer.Could it be a bad ethernet causing lockups?

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy printer locks upp my entire WinXp pro when telling it to print something out.There's nothing wrong with the printer itself or the cables attached to it, a've checked on another comp. Also tried to reinstall the LPT1 port and the drivers several times without no success. Even checked so that there's no other software that interferes with the printer drivers. and did run a virus check, both in Win and in pure DOS-mode, nothing. Starting to suspect that the LPTport on my Mobo- ASUS P4P800E Deluxe is screwed.The setting in BIOS is set to ECP as default and can't be manipulated.

I try to move the mouse and nothing. I try to hit CTRL ALT Delete and still nothing. The only way to get it unfrozen is to do a cold boot.
