View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got my SP2 CD in the mail today from Microsoft. I put the CD in, and it runs through the steps, and then it asks to reboot, I click okay. The computer will reboot to the second black screen, then then it will have the XP logo and under it: "Please wait...", and i let my computer sit like that for about 2 hours, and nothing happened. So I manually shut the computer off, when in, and unstalled it, and then put the disk back in and when through the wizard. The same exact thing happened, and I waited 2 hours and nothing happens, so I had to manually reboot.

Google gives many results, but all considering the same problem for Win95/98/2000, and not for XP which is my OS.
It is probably a registry problem, since it is the same case on my both computers with same software, and different hardware.
I've tried everything I knew, but can't move a bit.
I have one more problem with context menu; WinRAR "extract" options are present, but not working for *.rar files. They do work for other archives though. This is not such a big problem, but I am mentioning it beacause there is a possibility that both are connected.
I desperatly need to install an *.inf driver. No way around. I NEED to get back "INstall" option in the context menu for *.inf file drivers.
So my sister gets hold of a computer in the house and ruins it, and here is the dilemma I am facing: I turn on the computer and right away i come to this message....

So I enter the cd rom and press 'r' for repair, I choose C:windows, however before it can begin to repair it asks me for an 'Administration Password' which I have no idea of after many attempts.
I do not want to have to format the pc since I have some very important files on it. Any help is appreciated.

Checked my hard drive several different ways and no problems. So I went to do a Windows XP repair instead of complete reinstall as they are a pain. After a long time it came back that couldn't do this because SPCMDCOM>SYS file was missing and couldn't repair from recovery console without it. My hard drive was replaced by Dell in July of 05 I think. What can I do without going to extremes? Secondly can I install my cd/dvd rom on my other Dell PC with discs I already have? After 2 more min. a grey warning box appears and says the following:Isass.exe Was not able to find SAMSRV.dll file, reistall this try again..bla bla bla have a nice day.In short my pc is at this moment a 20lb door stop.I had a friend a couple years back take his old XP disc and somehow fix a simular issue.Least I thought thats what he did.I dont know his where abouts and I've seen some other forum's 3 year old thread mention how to repair the file, by reinstalling the entire Windows program.

Many things went back to the way they were 3 or 4 weeks ago: I've lost several away messages on AIM and some old ones are suddenly back. My little drop-down history bar thing on IE has URLS i haven't gone to in a few weeks and doesn't have ones I was at today. I'm missing a few programs I recently downloaded. (Like AdAware and yahtzee.) But my wallpaper, favorites, emails and most other files are as they should be.
