Missing File SPCMDCOM.SYS File - Blue Screen

was getting a blue screen 07A was told by computer techs without looking it was either my hard drive or my operating system. Checked my hard drive several different ways and no problems. So I went to do a Windows XP repair instead of complete reinstall as they are a pain. After a long time it came back that couldn't do this because SPCMDCOM>SYS file was missing and couldn't repair from recovery console without it. My hard drive was replaced by Dell in July of 05 I think. What can I do without going to extremes? Secondly can I install my cd/dvd rom on my other Dell PC with discs I already have? I am very aggravated. I want to try to save at least 1 computer. On the 1st PC about 2 months ago I had my 17 inch flat panel go out it starts but then go black, I am using the 2nd computers screen!

I'm in the process of repair/recovery of my machine (Dell Inspiron 8500 with Windows XP Home, Service Pack 2). I'm following exactly the instructions in:

The "software" file (which is the file that the original blue screen error message says is "corrupt, absent or not writable") will not copy to the new tmp directory to create the backup. My understanding from the article is that this backup file (software.bak) will later be used to restore correct settings for various software applications. I have fixed this problem in the past in repair mode and i want to do the same with this, but, there is no filename at the end of the statement see below Windows could not start because the following file is corrupt or missing windowssystem32configsystem Can this be fixed in repair mode without having to be reformated or reimaged.

i got on it, and it started loading the splash screen with windows xp on but then this blue screen error came on.
below is the error message.

So my sister gets hold of a computer in the house and ruins it, and here is the dilemma I am facing: I turn on the computer and right away i come to this message....
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
windowssystem32configSYSTEM
Attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the Original CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.
So I enter the cd rom and press 'r' for repair, I choose C:windows, however before it can begin to repair it asks me for an 'Administration Password' which I have no idea of after many attempts.
I do not want to have to format the pc since I have some very important files on it. Any help is appreciated.

I have an Asus W3H00V (which came with the Mobility Radeon X600) that I use for word processing, internet, and watching videos, though never really use it for gaming. After about a couple of months of use, my laptop suddenly always hangs with a blue screen popping up saying that there's an infinite loop problem that's caused by the file ati2dvag.dll, especially when watching videos. I've tried uninstalling and installing Windows XP (w/ sp2) four times and also uninstalling and installing the ATI drivers that came with my computer numerous times but nothing seems to work. I can't get any work done on my computer because an error window also always pop up and hangs my computer very frequently. I've tried searching for solutions in the internet but none seems to work.

I did not add any new memory to my systeme. however, I did remove my current memory to access the inside of my laptop. The fan wire had come loose so I reconnected. I fixed that problem only to find out the problem with the registry. I have chose the load last known configuration that worked correctly but it still gives me the little blue pop up screen with the error, then the restart.
I tried to use my windows xp os disk to try and repair it but it wont read the disc before the blue screen comes back up. I'm thinking of buying a Laptop To IDE Hard Drive Adapter. So, I could at least format my hard drive. I'm not sure if this would be a good idea. I went to the microsoft webpage that deals with this issue but I can not seem to find one to fix my problem.

My Windows XP operating system crashed last night. When I try to turn on the computer I get a black screen that appears stating that Windows did not shut down properly and how would I like to restart the computer. There are then five options available to chose from (3 Safe Modes options, last known configuration, and normally). I have attempted all five with no good outcome.

beginning dump of physical memory physical memory dump complete. contact your system administator or technical support group for further assistance." I was told that windows needed to be rebooted. So I moved my hard drive to another comp and transfered all my memory onto an external hard drive so I could reboot windows. I found an xp cd and tried to reboot from ide cd-rom and it wouldnt work. i ran a diagnostics on my ide and this error came up "primary ide: 0 st380011a- fail code 7"

I have a pc that has mine and a roomates account on it.it would not finish booting to the main Windows desktop screen.It sits at the "Windows XP Home Edition" loading screen for about 2 or so min. then goes black for another 2 min. then a little white arrow cursor comes up and the screen is still black. After 2 more min. a grey warning box appears and says the following:Isass.exe Was not able to find SAMSRV.dll file, reistall this try again..bla bla bla have a nice day.In short my pc is at this moment a 20lb door stop.I had a friend a couple years back take his old XP disc and somehow fix a simular issue.Least I thought thats what he did.I dont know his where abouts and I've seen some other forum's 3 year old thread mention how to repair the file, by reinstalling the entire Windows program.

After doing 'One Button Checkup' I get an error. Missing File:"CProgram FilesCommonFilesInstallShieldProfessinalRunTime701Intel 32DotNet.Installer.exe" (cannot access a necessary file "mscoree.dll") Win Doctor is unable to find & replace it, so it must have been deleted after Installation or later, ..... it doesn't seem to affect the computer so far, is it necessary to replace & would I be able to extract & replace it from original Windows XP disc, or would it only be possible by re-installing Windows XP?

I'm gettting a blue screen when i try to start my laptop with Windows XP media. It's saying the registry cannot load the hive (file): /SystemRootSystem32ConfigSECURITY or its log or alternate. I'm battling spyware removal at the moment (aurora) and somehow my win xp sp2 search function no longer works. i get an error "A File That Is Required to Run Search Companion Cannot Be Found" you may need to run setup I went to the microsoft website and downloaded the hotfix, however it doesn't work with sp2! anybody know how to fix this? I checked and i do have the srchasst folder in windows.

when I start my ms outlook 2007 I get this error. "Errors have been detected in the file 'file_path'. Quit all mail-enabled applications, and then use the Inbox Repair Tool." I tried to scan with scanpst.exe but it went in vain.I tried it with other applications it worked fine.But,the problem is they all are demo versions and I gets back only 5 to 6 mails for more mails i have to buy that applications. Do we have any free tool that can fix my problem or any other way to fix this.

When double clicking the actual file, Windows reports "windows cannot find file ... <file name.exe>"
This is only SOME exe's. Particularly, older programs. Word, excel, WordPerfect all work. Older apps don't.
I've tried the exe fixes on dougknox.com site and kelly's corner XP fix.

I know there is already a thread out there for this error. However, it is not solving my problem. My 160 Western Digital HDD is brand new. After the very first partition, OS install, and boot the system went to the "Windows is starting set up" blue screen. It hung up there. 10 minutes later I shut off the system and tried to boot from the HDD. This yielded the NTLDR error. Repartitioning with XP and reinstalling the OS ON A DIFFERENT COMPUTER worked. Hooking it up to my computer and booting from the HHD resulted in an "Operating system is missing error". Re-booting from the XP CD took me to the "Windows is starting set up" blue screen. a few seconds later the screen went blank. No windows start up screen, nothing I Can't get to the recovery console.

I have a friend running XP Home that needed to change what program a file type opened with. I have Office XP loaded on my PC, with added graphic filters, conversion filters and the 2007 compatibility pack loaded. Just yesterday, I tried to open a Word 2007 doc (.docx) which usually opens with the added compatibility filters. When the conversion list appeared, there were only 5 items listed, where there should have been around 20. Can't figure out where they went. I reloaded my filters and compatibility pack, but still can't open file and only get 5 items in conversion table. It almost seems as if the filters are being turned off. Any ideas? Is this a registry problem?
