Error Codes 7 - Registry File Failure - Blue Screen Of Death?
Mar 19, 2009
Error message(blue screen of death): "STOP: c0000218{registry file failure} the registry cannot load the hive(file): systemrootsystem32configsoftware or its log or alternate it is corrupt, absent, or not writable
beginning dump of physical memory physical memory dump complete. contact your system administator or technical support group for further assistance." I was told that windows needed to be rebooted. So I moved my hard drive to another comp and transfered all my memory onto an external hard drive so I could reboot windows. I found an xp cd and tried to reboot from ide cd-rom and it wouldnt work. i ran a diagnostics on my ide and this error came up "primary ide: 0 st380011a- fail code 7"

I did not add any new memory to my systeme. however, I did remove my current memory to access the inside of my laptop. The fan wire had come loose so I reconnected. I fixed that problem only to find out the problem with the registry. I have chose the load last known configuration that worked correctly but it still gives me the little blue pop up screen with the error, then the restart.
I tried to use my windows xp os disk to try and repair it but it wont read the disc before the blue screen comes back up. I'm thinking of buying a Laptop To IDE Hard Drive Adapter. So, I could at least format my hard drive. I'm not sure if this would be a good idea. I went to the microsoft webpage that deals with this issue but I can not seem to find one to fix my problem.

I'm gettting a blue screen when i try to start my laptop with Windows XP media. It's saying the registry cannot load the hive (file): /SystemRootSystem32ConfigSECURITY or its log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent, or not writable. I'm guessing I need the windows xp media reinstallation disk, but I can't seem to find it.

I'm in the process of repair/recovery of my machine (Dell Inspiron 8500 with Windows XP Home, Service Pack 2). I'm following exactly the instructions in:
http://attachments.techguy.org/attac...chmentid=62075, but a problem has developed. The "software" file (which is the file that the original blue screen error message says is "corrupt, absent or not writable") will not copy to the new tmp directory to create the backup. My understanding from the article is that this backup file (software.bak) will later be used to restore correct settings for various software applications. Since I can't copy it, it appears that I am screwed,

Ok this error will only pop up only about 3/4 of the time I attempt to go into Windows. Right after the windows boot screen finishes I'll get a blue screen of death for windows xp, and it says a bunch of numbers and stuff then at the bottom there is a file called tbcwdm.sys. This just started happening in windows, and I can't write the code down because the screen will dissapear in a matter of seconds and reboot the computer.

So after having an extremely long battle with my computer repeatedly restarting and restarting and restarting I got the BLUE error screen. I copied down the errors on a piece of paper and they are: STOP: 0x0000008E (0x00000005, 0x0004210B, 0xB004EC8C, 0x00000000).
I tried google'ing these codes but wasn't able to figure out what they were trying to say. I'm not sure what to do at this point Some background information. For a while now everytime I turn on my computer it will continually restart at different intervals until all of a sudden it just sticks and stays on and at that point it will work for hours on hours. However the restarting issue occurs EVERY time I start the computer. It usually stops restarting itself and works fine after about 10 minutes.
I ran MemTest86+ and found no errors. I switched out my PSU with a more powerful one (though my cousin thinks that one may be bad as well) but I don't have any extras and don't have a power supply tester laying around... I'm not sure how to check if it is my OS or possibly my board... I also don't have any extra parts

EDIT: *** Huge Development, This idiot mistyped, it was elpow_spy.sys I think I got this figured out now but I'll post back if not.Hey, Basically when I start up Windows it loads all the way to my desktop, and about 10 seconds later it just restarts again and continues in that loop. All my fans appear to be working fine and I've dusted the insides of my computer pretty well. In the Advanced Startup Options I disabled automatic restart upon system failure. When I proceeded to reboot, about 10 seconds after loading to my desktop, I got the following blue screen error message,
The problem seems to be cause by the following file eplow_spy.sys
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
*** STOP 0x00000050 (0xE35B000, 0x0000000, 0xEED86058, 0x0000001)

over the last 2 days i have gotten the BSoD and the error that comes up is that NV4_DISP is the cause of it every time. i looked it up and that is in my nvidia files. All my windows are updated, as is my direct X, nvidia drivers. i scaned for virus, spywear, anything i could think of.No errors come up anywhere, no virus, no spywear, according to my machine everything is running right. So my quesiton is, why the BSoD and if it keeps coming up in my video card, does that mean its dying ?

My PC crashes some times , sometimes playing games but other times I am just playing old games (MAME32 etc.) that do not require any CPU power. And sometimes I am just surfing the net and listening to music when the screen appears. One of the screens I recorded showed the error: 0x0000000A. I scanned the registry with Registry mechanic but it crashed again after some time. The error this time was 0x0000008E (parameter, parameter, ..., ...) I cant understand the reason. My Power supply is ok since it is relatively new and has nothing to do with the crashes (it crashed before and after change of PSU).

I followed the link from other threads to the microsoft site explaining repairing the registry using the installation disk. I got the computer from my brother in law and do not know where the installation disks are. Also it was factory installed and the microsoft instructions say they do not work with OEM software. Is there a way to fix this without the disk? If I find the disk Dell supplied will it work since it it was not a XP install disk?

when I turned on my computer and got the blue screen of death, so I restarted my PC. Then a black screen came up saying "Windows could not start beacuse the following file is missing or corrupt : windowssystem32configsystem."
You can attempt to repair this file by putting the winxp cd in etc...
Now when i turn on my computer there is just a black screen showing, with nothing at all on it.
Any ideas?

my husband, in trying to be helpful, decided to try to clean my Microsoft split key keyboard (the one that's sealed & is NOT supposed to be opened). When he reconnected the keyboard, he started a cascade failure in my W2K Pro (SP4). The most recent error code is "0x000000D1 (0x00000017, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xEB77B691) Address EB77B691 base at EB778000, DateStamp 3e25babe-uhcd.sys" I've tried the recovery console in the W2K disk with no result. I can boot in safe mode and the event viewer lists numerous missing paths & drivers. Any suggestions short of sacrificing a goat @ midnight? (or even worse, reformatting & starting over - over 17 gigs of data & programs that I really can't afford to have disappear into cyberspace.

OS: Windows XP Service Pack 2
Computer: Dell Dimension E310
Problem: Last night, my computer was being real slow so I did a hard shutdown and after I let it sit for a minute, I turned it back on to see the BSoD with this STOP code: 0x0000007B (0xF7A24524, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). When I restarted, it went straight to what I'm guessing is the F8 menu, where it says start in Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Last Known Good Config, and Start Windows Normally. I tried all 5 of those options and all of them bring me back to the BSoD, I'm out of options here and I'm broke so I can't call anyone out and really really don't want to format my hard drive. Thanks for any help.

I am working on a HP Pavilion a462x running Windows XP Home Edition. The computer will load all the way up to the Windows XP screen, flashes the "blue screen of death", and then reboots. The owner of the computer no longer has any recovery discs. I have run CHKDSK /R several times to no avail. I have a Windows XP Professional disc. Is there any way to create a recover disc for the HP? Am I completely overlooking something?
