the front two USB ports on my desktop are not working right. When I plug something into them, the system freezes and I have to turn the power off. This not happen to the two USB ports on the rear of the desktop.
Last week I was hit with a multitude of viruses. Since then I've followed the KRC Anti-Spyware tutorial, I have ewido, spybot (tea timer running), Ad-Aware, etc. and cleaned everythign up, and my system is finally stable again. I even got Norton System works and that helped a lot too. I've been to Windows update and am completely up to date with installs.2 problems still: I still have no audio, and 5 of my USB ports are not working
I have a machine which has suddenly stopped responding to any mouse connected to the usb port. The ports appear to still be working as i can access a usb key etc from them. As soon as i plug a mouse in i get an error saying the device may not be installed properly. When checking in the control pannel all devices appear to be fine but the port the mouse is in shows as 'unknown device' it seems to have suddenly lost the ability to recognise when something is a mouse
I'm running Windows XP Home Edition and right out of the blue my USB ports [all 4 of them] on my 'puter are not working. I first noticed it when I was trying to get info off one of my thumb drives. I inserted it and the thumb drives light comes on for about 2 or 3 seconds and then goes out and now when I try to print something, I get the USB error on my screen.
I'm trying to fix a virus problem (trojan.vundo) and need to boot in safe mode. When I try to boot in safe mode I get the user icons, but when I log in using any of the user icons including administrator the system freezes and I don't get a desktop.
i just reinstalled xp on my laptop and now it wont show up anything when i insert something intothe usb port. the light comes on on my usb stick. but thats all. i checked the usb controllers and the hubs and it says the device is working properally.
I have lost access to all the USB ports on a PC. There was no apparent crash but I realised there was a problem when the USB Mouse stopped working. Everything else is working OK. I get an Error 39 (drivers corrupted or missing) and the 2 entries in Device Manager both have yellow marks against them. I only have "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller" and "Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller" entries below the entry for Universal Serial Bus Controllers - no Root Hubs are there and there are no Unknown Devices anywhere else.I was running XP Pro SP2 when the ports went, but have installed SP3 and Updated to see if that did anything - it didn't. I have tried the troubleshooting suggestions on Microsoft such as deinstalling and rebooting, updating, system restore and have done a repair installation using my original XP SP2 disc all with no result.
My CPU has been 100% for over a month. I first thought it was a virus so a scanned w/ every program out there and nothing would detect anything, HJT log was reviewed and nothing found so I went down the Registry Path and tried to repair with Registry Repair Tools to no avail. So I backed up all my files and did a complete OS re-install in CPU is still at 100%. And when this problem first started by USB ports stopped working.
I have 4 usb ports, computer not communicating anything plugged into them BUT the green light on my memory card reader is on. It was all working before a recent thunder and lightning storm. How can I reset them to communicate again? XP pro service pack 2
Working on a Windows XP Home Edition Dell mini ATX with no serial mouse/keyboard - just USB. I ran Malware AntiMalwarebytes at owners home - no issues (apart from adware!) Keyboard/mouse work fine in set up - so have checked BIOS etc. Soon as load Windows - no response - hence Software issue rather than Hardware. Safe mode no use as mouse and keyboard don't work once windows loaded. Any gurus sorted this before? Have run a diagnostics through utility partition and Everything working okay - especially all USB elements.
I recently purchased a USB DVD burner. All of a sudden, my USB ports are not functioning properly. I have 3 ports on my laptop, and have tried all of them. Also, my mouse works, but only if it is plugged in when I start my computer. If it is unplugged, and then plugged back in, the computer can't find it. I have very little computer knowledge, so need step by step walkthroughs. I have tried the troubleshooter, and followed all the steps, and nothing has worked.
I am using windows xp sp2 professional.few days back my usb ports stopped working suddenly. They don't recognize any usb devices. Also there is nothing like usb controller or usb ehci in the device manager.I don't have anyway to know what has happened. The motherboard is intel 845 gvsr.If you have any links for updating the usb driver or the bios or any solution to this
I've got a bit of a problem with my computer and was hoping some advice. Basically all the USB 2.0 ports on my computer have recently stopped working - I can still use them to charge my iPod, but not to communicate with it (I no longer get the little icon in the bottom right hand side of the screen when it's connected), and I can't use my printer because the computer insists it's off-line (I've tried two different cables so it can't be a problem with that).I've got two USB 2.0 ports on the back of my computer (built into my motherboard - can't remember the exact model offhand but the processor is one of those 2800+ Athlon 64bit ones, if that?s relevant) and I've also recently upgraded my monitor to a dell FPW2005, so I've now got another couple (not working) on the side of that too. I even tried taking the USB 2.0 card from my old computer (that has 4 USB 2.0 sockets in it and plugs directly into the motherboard) - but this didn't work either
I am working on a friends laptop, a Dell Inspiron 9200 running Windows XP Pro with SP3. I have it working well now except the USB ports do not work. The laptop was in pretty bad shape when I started. I remove Norton Antivirus (subscription expired 3 years ago), removed a few trojans and viruses using Malwarebytes and Combofix, and installed AVG Free. I also cleaned up the temp files, compacted the registry using NTRegOpt, and defragmented the drive.I have tried uninstalling the USB controllers and let Windows reinstall them, verified working status in Device manager, and disabled USB device power management. I also plugged in a USB mouse and verified the ports are supplying power.
None of my USB ports are working. I believe that it was the cause of a thunderstorm. I already uninstalled all drivers and ports in the device manager and let windows reinstall them, and still none of my hardware is recognized, not even my mouse. All drivers seem to be installed correctly. Can my usb ports be fried? I dunno.
I have a Dell 4600 running XP Home and all my USB ports have suddenly stopped working. When I go to the device manager and expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers, each of the Intel(R) 8280 1EB VBB Universal Host Controller has a yellow exclamation mark beside them. When I check their status this is the message: Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19). I was not in the registry prior to this, so I don't know how it got damaged I tried this: Click Uninstall, and then click Scan for hardware changes to load a usable driver ? no effect.
I tried this: Restart the computer in Safe Mode, and then select Last Known Good Configuration, which rolls back to the most recent successful registry configuration ? didn't fix the problem. Microsoft says that as a last resort, you can edit the registry directly ? but I not sure where and what to edit in the registry. If anyone can tell me what keys to edit in the registry I would very appreciative. I will do anything to avoid reinstall windows from scratch. I unfortuately didn't have system restore going so I cannot use that.
I have a Sony VGN-T1XP Vaio laptop with an Intel Pentium M Processor running XP Pro SP2. For some reason the two USB ports have stopped working and no USB devices are recognised. I have looked at the device manager under USB controllers and there are four USB controllers listed which are as follows: Intel 82801DB/DBM USB 2.0 enhanced host controller 24CDIntel 82801DB/DBM USB universal host controller 24C2Intel 82801DB/DBM USB universal host controller 24C4Intel 82801DB/DBM USB universal host controller 24C7 Underneath those are four USB root hubs. I have previously used a USB card reader and external hard drive on both ports without any problems but now when I connect any device nothing at all happens.
After a while my sound will cut out and when I try to play things in Winamp or anything it will stay stuck @ 0:00The sounds will sputter for a second and then freeze. Also when the sound dies, sometimes programs will start to freeze up to the point I can't even kill them in tskmgr. System sounds don't play either.I've tried updating to the latest drivers. I tried an older version of the drivers too.
Trying to help a friend whose XP system is running very slowly, it does not recognize any usb ports and will not connect to the internet. She is anxious to retain her photos. As she can't put any software on the system to check for viruses etc, the only thing I can suggest she does is to re-install XP. If she does not reformat the disk will her user data still be accessible?
I'm pretty decent with software but this one has completely bemused me. I did a system restore to my computer and all of my usb ports are not responding to anything, at first I thought it was the stuff I already used i.e. mouse and keyboard, but nothing works within the usbs. Tht meant that i couldn't log back on after my system restore because I couldn't type my password in. Then, for some stupid reason I went to change the voltage setting which is random and stupid, and now the computer won't even turn on. Please help as I don't want to have to fork out for a new computer.
my laptop froze...i turned it off and thats here the problems began. long story short i had to replace my ram. i reinstalled xp and couldnt get online at all. i took it to the comp. repair place at my school and they told me 2 conflicting stories. they got my laptop able to connect to wireless but it blue screens after about a minute or 2. the screen flashes the blue screen but doesnt stay up and the laptop turns off. my power adapter doesnt charge the laptop unlessyou jiggle it and move it in a certain area...he said this makes things woese and is all due to the motherboard being fried. thing is this has happened before even when my laptop was working fine...i had to jiggle or move the adapter plug around until it held a charge. i have windows xp and my laptop bluescreens as i try to go online. is there a remedy to this.
I am using Windows XP in a corporate workstation where I have been given the local system administrator rights and I am not in any kind of domain or workgroup. But my problem is the USB ports are disabled and I wanted to enable them.
All of a sudden, every time I boot, the desktop icons and background come up normally, and the mouse icon moves - but NOTHING on the desktop that I click on works. The mouse arrow becomes a hourglass icon on the blue bar at the bottom. No new software or hardware. The ONLY way to recover is to go to safe mode and restore to an earlier time. Interestingly, even if the restore says it was NOT successful to an earlier time and unchanged, the machine then works normally (until the next reboot). I've done: sfc scannow, crapcleaner, utility drive and registry scans, antivirus scans, chkdsk, etc - no help. I've looked carefully at ipconfig, but only the bare bones usual stuff is there.
Two days ago, I started having a problem with my desktop freezing. When I restart the computer, I am able to log onto my account fine. But when I switch users (I am not on a domain) to my girlfriend's account, her desktop freezes
My XP Pro freezes thoroughly, mouse and keyboard in place, and the machine appears to be in a coma. I must power down to get out of it.The freeze may take place while the desktop is loading, or it may wait for me to do a few thinks, but it doesn't take long. If I boot in safe mode with network it doesn't freeze. If I boot in other than safe mode, when the cursor is left at center screen (after loading my info) it takes several minutes to finish loading systray, desktop, etc.
Dell Dimension 8400 freezes several times a day when I'm surfing the net. I'm using Windows XP, Media Center Edition, 512 MB of Ram. The only thing to do when this happens is to turn off the power and restart. I stopped using Internet Explorer and switched to Firefox after this started happening with similar performance with both browsers. Used Spybot S&D and found some problems, however the freezing continues.
My computer is really slow and it takes hours just to get to the screen where the User names are. Also when i enter my password and try to log in. The computer usually freezes after showing my wallpaper of desktop items. This is probably because I had installed a few programs. Is there a program or something to that I can use to boot my computer faster? I'm desperate also I really need to keep all the files on my computer on my computer. I have been having problems with my cpu being overheated. The CPU fan makes alot of noise.
recently my computer takes ages to get passed the Windows XP load screen. Sometimes the scrolling bars stop and it freezes before i it loads the desktop. It works if i safe boot it, but often it doesn't pass the Windows XP startup screen, or it takes a long time (approx 100s) to get passed it. Before it only took at most 10 seconds. It don't know why it's doing it. I've tried running a registry mechanic, prefetch cleaner and all that jazz. But it's still taking awhile to get passed that XP screen.
