Install Memory - How Do You Know It's Installed Correctly?
Nov 4, 2005
I installed 512MB PC3200 to my Windows XP Sony Vaio PC. The little white clamps clicked into place.
when I right click to see the system summary, it still says 502 RAM. I thought it would read 1 gig (?)
Is there something I need to do?
Do I take ut the old memory and then add two (new) more memory chips to increase the memory? Or do I just put in an additional memory chip?
I'm trying to install MS Office Home and Student 2007. Right away it says I need SP2 installed correctly before it allows install. I'm pretty sure I downloaded SP2 correctly as it's in my program list.
None of my USB ports are working. I believe that it was the cause of a thunderstorm. I already uninstalled all drivers and ports in the device manager and let windows reinstall them, and still none of my hardware is recognized, not even my mouse. All drivers seem to be installed correctly. Can my usb ports be fried? I dunno.
I installed 256 DDR in my nephews computer and when I click on the system info..it still says he only has 116 of RAM left (He started out with 128 before I installed the memory upgrade). I assumed it would automatically install.
I put memory on my computer (1GB) after I installed it I get this message ALERT! OS INSTALL MODE ENABLED. AMOUNT OF AVAILABLE MEMORY LIMITED TO 256MB STRIKE F1 KEY TO CONTINUE F2 TO RUN THE SET UP UTILITY
I'm not sure what else I can do. My PC slowly derailed into sluggishness, and if I have more than one program open while I am running AOL, AOL runs very slow, and even grays out when I try to connect. The memory I installed has helped, but only minutely. I have plenty of hard drive space left (29gb). I run Windows XP on an HP. I'm not sure what other information you would need.
Alright this has left me without my dell for a few months now and its driving me nuts.I was trying to format my computer, and than install winxp.i wiped it,and tried installing winxp from my cd, Everytime i try to install,it says it couldn't be installed due to not enough memory left,or my disc being corrupted,it cannot be corrupted because i have installed windows xp on this computer using the same cd.
I have been getting the blue screen of death on my Dell Inspiron 600m running Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 SP2 w/ Intel Pentium M processor 1600 MHz 299 MHz, 1 GB of Ram (only hardware not factory - installed recently). I was given this laptop as a Christmas gift as the donor received a new one on boxing day It was given to me with this error and I suspect it is from the new(er) memory installed but cannot be certain as I have no references to go on. I had enough of this reoccurring error very quickly so I reinstalled the OS clean and fully updated the system with Microsoft updates including SP2, the computer also has quite a bit of expensive software I installed and is virus free according to trend micro IS PC-cillin 2007.The memory that came out of this unit is in with the laptop bag stored in the new memory packaging, the new memory is: Times Two(2) units = KTD - INSP8200/512 (512MB Memory Module) Equiv. Dell(R) P/N: 311 - 1356 (Sodimm DDR Inspiron) whatever that means! The old memory that was removed says: Again Times Two (2) units = Infineon HYS64D32020GDL-7-B 32M x 64 SDRAM - B2V40212332G - PC21000S-2033-0-A1 - 256MB,DDR,266,CL2
"There is insufficient memory or disk space. Close extra windows and save your work." It's the message that I keep getting when I try to paste some pages of a book from Internet onto WORDS 2000 on my Laptop DELL INSPIRON 9300 with OS Windows XPPLEASE HELP ME TO FIND A CURE FOR THIS
I recently downloaded the Indigo Prophecy Demo (Game) from fileplanet and when executing the installer a dos window would pop up and disapear real quick. So I ran the setup from command prompt and it ended up saying "Program Too Big To Fit Into Memory". At first I thought this was just a problem with this demo, until I tried to install the Starship Troopers Demo (Game) and it tried to install a third party audio system during install and hat installer did the exact same thing. I noticed that both of them appeared to Installshield brand and had the msi files with them. So I am assuming it's an issue with my computer
So I guess I installed a couple of bad sticks of mem and it corrupted my OS to the point that my comp wont' boot into windows. So I purchased a usb enclosure thingy megingy and hooked up my laptop HD ( the bad one ) to my desktop. I can access the HD just fine but I can't see all the files. when I hover the mouse over the drive it shows 13GB used but when I actually go into the HD no folder even comes close to having that much data. some are just empty or just don't show up.How can I recover the data on my HD?
I took my brand new Dell Inspiron 530 Windows XP Professional Quad Core Q6600 out of the box on May 30 directed Windows Updates to download and install updates immediately.
Long story short - Athlon/mobo on old unit died, 3 hd's (all WD eide 80 [C:], 40 [F:], 80 [G:]) & 1.5 gb memory good until mobo failure. Had shop install new mobo along with intel duo processor, new ATI video card, reinstalled memory & both 80 hd. Installed WD SATA 160 [replacing WD 40 hd] & tried to make it master boot record. Had shop transfer files from old WD 80 [C:] MBR to SATA 160, leaving files on 80. Did an repair install of xp on old 80 hd. Wouldn't boot. Tried reinstall of xp on SATA 160 & rebooted. Able to do so, but couldn't access internet for updates. Got sp2 update disc from technician & updated, then restarted.
I have xp, on my computer,I went onto the web,and downloaded sonic record now65 freeware into a folder in my documents, everytime I go to open it to use it to copy a dvd ,a window opens up saying that its all ready install, do I want to reinstall it, it won't open to enable me to use it to copy a dvd
I had an ingenuine version of Windows installed so I had decided to just install a genuine one after Microsoft had bugged me about it. The bad OS was XP Pro and I was supposed to have XP Home, so I had to do it the hard way. I decided to install XP Home then over everything I had. I copied/installed the important things I had backed up (not much). This was a few days ago. Everything was going well until yesterday I got a problem. I had just installed SP3 when it told me to reboot. I rebooted but I get an error before it's about to start loading my desktop. The error lasts for about half a second before the computer reboots and repeats the process endlessly. The error says "A write operation was attempted to a volume after it was dismounted." with "lsass.exe" in the title bar. The same thing happens if I boot in safe mode as well. Also, my computer is a Dell laptop, Inspiron 600m. What am I to do?? I really do not want to have to do that all over yet again just after having everything nearly set back up perfectly. Help!
I have installed SP2, my windows folder is now 2,5 GB. Which folders can I delete or move to CD to free up more disk space ? Service Pack Files = 509 MB Software Distribution = 598 MB
I have a printer installed but when i try to print it keeps saying if i want to install the printer. And then i click RUN i type in services.msc and enter. Down the services list i go to Print Spooler and double click it. It says "Service status: Stopped". Well then i click start and after bout 10 seconds it goes back to stopped again
I am trying to restore my dell computer to its original state as it has bogged down completely and i have been getting a bunch of random error messages such as error loading CTMBHA.DLL.I do not care about losing any of my data or programs, I just want it to go back to its original state. When i attempt to use the Dell OS reinstallation disc, It tells me that i have a newer version of windows XP installed, so i cannot continue with setup. How do i erase this newer version of Windows XP, so that my system is back to factory settings.
while composing an email i suddenly got this " Phoenix Technology" Recover pro msg. "Operating system or hard disk partitions have been altered. The current restore point does not match either your current hard disk setup or your OS" I am unware that i have any Phoenix hardware install. I have win XP ver 5.1, i have not installed any new hardware, or partitioned the disk, and everytime i close down the system this msg appears. The main start-up screen and desktop reappears after "ok". need advice. email is hmcdoc77@comcast.net
I have a client whose computer has stopped reacting to "alt-tab" hot key (ie. switching between screens).Let's say you are in IE (any app does the same)Currently, if you hold down Alt (like you are getting ready to hit tab), it will highlight the File option from the menu screen. It acts just like it would if you clicked on "Alt" once. If you hit "Alt-Tab" it doesn't do anything different.Things we have done: 1. Tried using the other alt button - same thing 2. Tried installing MS Power Tool for Alt-Tab - same problem 3. Tried installing an app called Alt-Tab Thingy - this was interesting but I didn't catch the full message. It said something like Hot-Keys not enabled or cannot access Hot-Keys. 4. Reboot - same problem..Since then, we have uninstalled the Alt-Tab Thing application and are still stuck with this strange issue.
i have a collection of pictures on my pc,tranferred on to hard drive from a digital camera.they cover sep-dec'06. i have put them all, individually, in a folder, having renamed them to a,b,c, --- etc,to get them to burn to cd-r in sequence. i use xp's 'burn to cd' facility.however, they still come out jumbled and not in sequence as desired. i believe there is a way of correctly renaming them for this purpose but i can not remember how. i seem to remember some article suggesting using 0000/0001/0002 numbering etc to achieve this.is this correct/ correct numbering sequence?
I have an E6600 Dual core CPU, 2 gig ram and 36 gig raptor drive and an Antec True Power 550 watt PS. Everthing seems to work great but I can't seem to get my comands to work correctly when programing in VB4.My old computer had Win XP Media Edition and it worked well. Is there any way I could run this computer with only 1 Core. The intel Motherboard has Single Core disabled?
I currently have windows xp on my laptop, however when I turn it on , it opens to my desktop, but nothing works, All the programs are appearing as links, and when u click on them nothing happens,I tried opening a word file and it said windows installer could not be found.I tried doing a system restore but as mentioned it looked just like a link and when I clicked it nothing happened. No programs are loading at system start up, these include, my antivirus, network connections etc.
I was aware that Windows used to have limitations on the size of Hard Disk Drives for file sizes etc. but I had thought that these had now been fixed with XP & XP PRO. I installed a new 250GB into a friends machine about a month ago & this went without incident. Yesterday I just put into an external caddie a USB2 drive of 300GB into my machine. XP Pro recognizes the drive & it will work but my computer displays the size as only 127GB which is less than half 's true size.
windows explorer XP Pro.Instead of there being a forward slash in the title there is a strange looking W with a slash through it.Also typing Forward slash generates the funny W in windows but types correctly in IE8
I just put this system togethe (specs are in profile) and I am having a problem, that, XP Home is only recognizing 3.25Gb of the 8Gb I have installed. Updated BIOS and am about to update chipset drivers. BIOS also recognizes that all sticks are working correctly.
I've just recently purchased a system within a week only to find that my wired optical mouse has stopped working correctly. It sporadically moves from place to place and at times is completely unresponsive. The weird thing is that every once in a while, the power on the mouse completely turns off (no light coming from it). I am certain the USB mouse works as it has been tested in another computer.
I have latest video drivers and everything else. Its actually a duel boot system and on the other install on windows prof.everything displays fine. If anyone could shed some light on this that would be awsome.
I have a new HP m1070y media center computer that came with the OS already installed on it (XP media center edition 2005). I was looking at the system event log and I see scores of errors with the event ID of 7011. I could not find information that was detailed and specific enough to help me. Out of curiosity, I ran SFC /scannow to see if any clues would arise from that. When it got near the end of running it discovered a half-dozen DLL's that were missing that "may cause windows to not function correctly". No details were given as to what DLL's were missinng it simply asked for disc 2 of the XP Pro set. I do not have a XP Pro disc set because the OS and recovery partition are pre installed. I did not see any way to browse for the files that are missing. Is there an alternate way of replacing those missing files without having to purchase XP pro? Perhaps the DLL's are missing by design since the removal of of domain capabilities in MCE2005? Are there other utilities that can pin-point exactly which files are missing so that I can replace them manually?
