Cant Find My Harddrive Phoenix BIOS

Sep 5, 2010

We got a hand me down gateway for daughter and we had to reformat the hard-drive. I came to find out was missing the third disk on Gateway's "System Restoration Kit" disks. They no longer provide them anymore, since out of warranty. I was going to just install full version of XP (just had Win ME, when reformatted). It's telling me "No Hard disk error". I tried going into BIOS, hitting F10 on boot up. But there's no Sata settings in my bios. It's a "Phoenix Bios" system.

Reboots At Shutdown - NO ERRORS - Phoenix Bios Have ACPI On?

Sep 24, 2006

I have just: Done a successful repair/rebuild of XP Home Did a CHKDSK /r/f on my System drive Defragmented my system drive with PerfectDisk Read and applied recommentations on changes so that I would see errors when my system re-boots Yet, When I shutdown my PC, it will shotdown, then re-boot again, without the benefit of a error messagw to help me figure out why it is re-booting instead of shutting down and powering off. Is there something wrong with my Phoenix Bios have ACPI On? What can I do to see error/warning messages on why my system re-boots when I shutdown?

Starting Up - Phoenix BIOS DOS Program Opens & Asks F1 Or F10 To Continue

Jan 23, 2009

I am running XP Pro on a laptop loaded with programs and files. When I recently started it up, instead of loading with the familiar Compaq logo, it started in a DOS program (Phoenix BIOS) with a warning
that "it had not been shut down correctly last time." I think I did shut it down correctly last time. The BIOS offered me two options. 1) Hit F1 to Boot or 2) Hit F10 to continue. I hit F10. That took me to a screen where I had to guess what to choose. Did I want to Save and Exit? Did I want to Escape and abandon changes? etc. I didn't know what to do but it seems I had not made any changes so I said "abandon changes and boot

Remove Program From System Tray/set Unable To Close?

how would I make it so that a program does not go to the taskbar, and instead runs in the background? For example, if a program minimizes to the system tray, I would like it so that it "goes to the system tray" but does not show, even if you expand it. Another way this can be described, is that I want it to behave like explorer.exe Also, How would I also make it so that if someone attempted to close that program, it would automatically open up again? Is there anything

Just Installed Home And Everything's Good Until I Install SP3.

Jan 1, 2009

I had an ingenuine version of Windows installed so I had decided to just install a genuine one after Microsoft had bugged me about it. The bad OS was XP Pro and I was supposed to have XP Home, so I had to do it the hard way. I decided to install XP Home then over everything I had. I copied/installed the important things I had backed up (not much). This was a few days ago. Everything was going well until yesterday I got a problem. I had just installed SP3 when it told me to reboot. I rebooted but I get an error before it's about to start loading my desktop. The error lasts for about half a second before the computer reboots and repeats the process endlessly. The error says "A write operation was attempted to a volume after it was dismounted." with "lsass.exe" in the title bar. The same thing happens if I boot in safe mode as well. Also, my computer is a Dell laptop, Inspiron 600m. What am I to do?? I really do not want to have to do that all over yet again just after having everything nearly set back up perfectly. Help!

Thanks

Do I take ut the old memory and then add two (new) more memory chips to increase the memory? Or do I just put in an additional memory chip?

Finding The Installed Operating System Is 64 Bit Or 32 Bit?

Jan 22, 2009

I recently bought a Canon PowerShot SD430 Digital ELPH Wireless for use in my chiropractic practice. It will be used in posture evaluation and I selected it for the wireless feature. After unsuccessfully trying to install it on my samsung laptop R710 AS04 I was informed by canon help that 'Windows XP (excluding the 64-bit version) with Service Pack 2 installed is required to use the wireless function.' while the samsung came with Vista pre-installed.

My question is this: I still have an old CD of XP Home Edition, it is version 2002 with a part number X08-26270.....how do I know if this is the 64 or 32 bit version? Will I have problems installing SP2 on such an old version or should I pop for a newer one? I'm determined to make the danged camera work wirelessly, any other suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

System Restore Hangs After SP2 Installed?

Jul 23, 2005

Using XP Pro - installed SP2 two days ago. I did everything recommended prior to install, such as updating everything possible (including BIOS). Ad-Aware and NAV 2004 (up to date) both indicate a clean system. NAV 2004 disabled during SP2 install. Defragmented and checked disc, etc, etc.Since installing SP2, System Restore has stopped working. I noticed it first when auto update downloaded updates after the SP2 install. When I tried to install them, the install just hung (because it tries to create a restore
point prior to installing the updates, and System Restore won't run). So I can't install updates either. I'm not even sure what 'HarddiskVolume2' refers to? I only have one disk (C with a very standard XP Pro configuration. In September last year I tried installing SP2 but ran into the same problem. I spent days trying to sort it out, but eventually the MS people recommended I remove SP2. They said it may have been a corrupted download, so this time I ordered the CD. This install was from the CD, but exactly the same problems have occurred.Booting in safe mode doesn't help because it doesn't let you create a restore point, only to restore to a previously created one.System Restore was working perfectly for 2 years prior to this under SP1. I would rather not turn it off, because I don't want to lose the restore points I have to get back before the SP2 install! What else can I do???
