is it generally possible to transfer the files of a program installed on one system to another (i.e. I don't the install software to hand and am hoping perhaps a simple transfer of files will have positive results). I know my way around windows but not the more technical aspects of software.

View 4 Replies View Relateda program called "System Guard 2008" has installed itself. It slowed down quite a bit and eventually crashed on me. Now it wont boot up all the way. I turn it on, it will get all the way to the Windows password screen, then once I enter my password and click on the green arrow, I get a warning message that my paginf file is either non existant or too small. Then once I click "OK" on that warning message, the screen blacks out, restarts the boot process, gets to the password screen, and that cycle just continues over and over. Ive tried to boot into safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, last known good configuration

It added a menu during start up to include a second Operating System choice but it wouldn't load. I removed it from my new drive in order to start over, but now that stupid menu choice is still there.First, how do I remove that? Since installing IE 7 from the MS update site the program no longer works. The dialog box comes up but nothing happens when you click on a button to go to the site. Normally IE opens up and takes you to the site. I'm running Zone Alarm Internet security Suite and haven't changed anything in that program.

Program still doesn't find it. Think it may be a registry problem but am hesitant to fool around with it. Anyone know how to make XP default to DX8.1? (There are other DirectX's in registry, i.e DX3, DX6 etc. Think it may be defaulting to one of these.

The problems is that you can still see it if you go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. Is there any way to make it invisible there and other places where it can be seen as installed? I've found tons of software to just "hide it away with a keystroke," like when you're trying to "hide it from your boss." In that case what you can do is just use Alt+Tab and Presto !

I would like to upgrade the new machine from Home to Pro. I will be removing XP Pro from the old machine & reformatting the hard drive. The MS site indicates this is possible, but doesn't mention anything about licensing restrictions or activation. I tried to find the licensing agreement to see what it said about transfer a license to another computer but couldn't find it. I'm also curious how the activation process will go... Will I be able to just do the online activation or will I need to do the phone activation since I'm transferring a license.
