View 3 RepliesI set Windows to check my main hard drive for errors on my Dell E310 the next time it boots, so I shut it down and then rebooted. It started to load Windows, but after the loading bar went through 2 and a half passes, it just stopped. I figured this was normal for the error-checking program, but I left it for a couple of hours and came back. It still hadn't started, so I shut it down and booted to safe mode and did a system restore back to the beginning of yesterday. Right now I have it booting again and it stopped at the same spot.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI am on an XP2 home edition pc - toshiba satellite celeron. Within the past few days, I've had a terrible time with slow keystroke response. I first noticed this a month or so ago whilst in the MSN Spaces blog sites on just a few of the spaces that I frequented. Now, it seems to be every place (even here while I'm typing this). However, it doesn't seem to be a problem with MSN messenger, or Skype. I've run 2 different spyware apps (Spyware doctor & spybot search & destroy) and a full virus scan (avast). I did a restore back to June 13, prior to the Microsoft updates. Still the slow response is happening.

Since installing IE 7 from the MS update site the program no longer works. The dialog box comes up but nothing happens when you click on a button to go to the site. Normally IE opens up and takes you to the site. I'm running Zone Alarm Internet security Suite and haven't changed anything in that program.

Program still doesn't find it. Think it may be a registry problem but am hesitant to fool around with it. Anyone know how to make XP default to DX8.1? (There are other DirectX's in registry, i.e DX3, DX6 etc. Think it may be defaulting to one of these.

View 2 Replies View RelatedLet's say I want to make Adware invisible to anybody who uses my computer. Some real primitive answer is to delete it from the menu and also its shortcut icon. The problems is that you can still see it if you go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. Is there any way to make it invisible there and other places where it can be seen as installed? I've found tons of software to just "hide it away with a keystroke," like when you're trying to "hide it from your boss." In that case what you can do is just use Alt+Tab and Presto !

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've just had to install my machine after a major malfunction. It's running fine now, but everytime I install a new program, when I restart the machine, all the newly installed programs' folders pop up (e.g. showing the uninstall and help links in the program's particular folder; it usually happens with new software just the once) - and it's getting ridiculous. I have to close each folder one by one.
