Remove Program From System Tray/set Unable To Close?

how would I make it so that a program does not go to the taskbar, and instead runs in the background? For example, if a program minimizes to the system tray, I would like it so that it "goes to the system tray" but does not show, even if you expand it. Another way this can be described, is that I want it to behave like explorer.exe Also, How would I also make it so that if someone attempted to close that program, it would automatically open up again? Can I remove a program's tray icon ( the one that appears near the volume icon in the taskbar ) without removing the program nor closing it? I want to totally remove the tray icon from near the volume one in the taskbar, so that it would not appear while the program is running. I don't want to hide it, but to totally REMOVE it from the system tray, Can I? Can I edit the registry for doing that or something else?

I have a ton of program in my system tray (which I've been told means they are running somehow, and presumably using up resources). I'm assuming this might be contributing to the slow speed of my computer. Can anybody tell me how to prevent these programs from starting up whenever I start the computer. Some of them are programs I hardly ever use and I'm sure I could find them to open them if I ever need them. I'm running Windows 2000 Professional.

Computer starts getting little popups in the system tray saying the computer is infected, and spysherrif and virus Axe automatically download. I ran everything I had in safe mode, as well as smitten. There were 4 registry items that ewido could not remove though, it kept getting an error.

You can see which previous items that have been run or are currently running on your system tray by clicking on Start >> Settings >> Taskbar and Start Menu, tick the box that says "Hide inactive icons" then click "customize". There you will see a list of Current and Past items. If you would like to remove the past items then follow these steps: 1. Start Regedit. If you are unfamiliar with regedit please refer to the FAQ on how to get started. 2.Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerTrayNotify 3. Delete the keys Past Icons Stream and Icon Streams 4. Exit regedit and restart Explorer. 5. To end explorer right clicking anywhere on the system tray and choosing "Task Manager". Click on the "Processes" tab and find Explorer.exe. Click the End Process button. Your whole systemtray should disappear. 6. To restart Explorer, while still in Task Manager, go to the "applications" tab and choose the New Task.. button. Simply type Explorer.exe and click OK.

When I plug in a USB memory stick, my camera or an external hard drive, I get no tray icon (green arrow): the first two items I can 'eject' but I don't even get that option for the hard drive. However, when I loaded software and downloaded pictures from a phone for a friend, the icon and removal option appeared.

I downloaded the latest episode from the Hugel CD (Ragnarok). The installation was successful. But the problem is when I click start game, Ragnarok will open then immediately close. I also tried reinstalling my Ragnarok but its still the same. I have all the latest players like java players, adobe flash player and Direct X 9.0. My Specs are 80GB hardisk, Intel P4 2.4Ghz, 1GB RAM. But all other programs are working fine.

Very recently I managed to open a .exe file which contained a rather nasty strain of something which has come back to bite me. When I start up Windows XP SP2, I get an error message telling me that "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close." In addition iexplore.exe starts up in the task manager on every startup, without the browser launching and my baseline RAM usage is 80MB or so higher than normal. Now I have blocked iexplore.exe with my firewall, I have scanned my computer with Norton internet security 2007, Spybot S&D, Adaware SE and I have deleted the .exe file from which the infection originated. Unfortunately, though some minor infections were discovered, the problem at hand remains unresolved. MSConfig does not show anything about iexplore.exe opening up on startup., or any other program I do not want for that matter. I am at my wits end, and I hope someone here can figure out what I cannot....

I have a couple programs that Windows can't close when it exits (Win XP). So when I exit, I have to manually click the popup Window that asks to close the program without saving it or cancel. Is there a way to have Windows do that by default for that particular program (or even for all programs) preferably after some period of time of not making a choice?

I recently installed Mcafee. I defraged my computer and restarted it. When it loaded up I noticed that everything is taking 2x as long to load and it is taking long time to even get the start button list up. I was able to get into the add/remove program list but nothing was there. I waited for about 10 minutes and then nothing still, I don't know any other way to remove McAfee, how to remove McAfee, add/remove program list won't work here.

Something has taken over my computer and I can't seem to find it. I have Windows XP Home Edition and lately I've been getting a pop-up everytime I start up my computer that reads:To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program Generic Host Process for Win32 Services. click ok, send an error report once, then have to do battle with this pop-up -- clicking ok and closing it at least five more times before I can finally access my desktop. I want to do a clean install of the licensed version of QuickBooks 2005 CD but not until the downloaded trial is cleaned from the HDD. Back on May 15th, Laura alt.comp.software.financial.quickbooks instructed me how to do this. Finally got around to starting the process a couple weeks ago, then put it on hold again because the uninstall didn't seem to work. I'm stuck. What I did: Uninstalled QBs 2005 Trial using Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs. It appeared to perform the program uninstall successfully and it's no longer listed in Add/Remove.
