View 13 RepliesI have been trying for a while to delete three broadband connections i seem to have made, but not enabled. They are located in the network connections dialog under the broadband heading. On top of this they keep asking me which server to connect to. When I try to delete them, it asks me if i want to send them to the recycle bin, I click yes, and then nothing happens, they don't go anywhere.

When I try to reinstall in device manager, the error I get is "name is already in use as either a device name or service name"I've tried all the obvious... uninstall, reinstall stuff. I know I have to play with the registry to fix this but I dont know where to start. Can anyone help me, because as of now, my mother's computer doesn't get the internet!

When going to Network Connections, under the Hamachi connection it states its Network Adapter name (also shown as this in Device Manager); Hamachi Network InterfaceI need to change Hamachi Network Interface to anything else, other than Hamachi Network Interface, Lets rename it to Local VPN.I have altared all instances of the name Hamachi Network Interface located in the registry (literally searched for it, and replaced all values and names that stated it with Local VPN instead of Hamachi Network Interface), I even changed all instances within the driver itself, reinstalled the driver, and it still would not altar the name to Local VPN.

View 18 Replies View RelatedI've had ongoing problems with my 13-day old Gateway with Windows XP, seemingly due to all the updating and reconfiguring it took to get XP to work with older applications and my printer. I've received several service host error report messages, several days ago the sound stopped for no reason (uninstalling Realtek fixed that), and yesterday my backup program stopped working and my colors changed. The desktop turned from teal to yellowish green and the text changed from white to yellowish. A Gateway tech had me do "Big Fix" and nothing changed. He said I have to do a System Restore to get XP back to its original state. Tomorrow is the last day I can return my computer to the store where I bought it. What would cause colors to change by themselves?

An access denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may need to log on using an Administrator account to make the changes.
The only account on the system is mine that is an administrator account but i still get this error.
I have only one account on my Windows and it is the administrator account (mine because I'm the only one using the computer). The problem is when I make changes in msconfig, when I click on Apply, I get this message "An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may need to log on using an Administrator account to make the specified changes".I am the administrator and there is no other account than mine!

Also, since I've been removing and then rejoining computers to the domain I hit the limit on the number of times I can join a computer to a domain. Where is this number defined, and reset?

Problem is I can't set the IP address for the remote machine to connect to.
The office conection is via a dsl setup and I have been given an IP address
for the internet connection by the ISP. After the ISP IP Address I expect to
see a modem (which is also my internal LAN DHCP server) and the IP Address of
the machine I wish to connect to.
If my ISP has given me an IP address 200.200.1.100, my dsl modem is
192.168.1.255 and the machine I wish to connect to is 192.168.1.100 with
subnet mask 255.255.255.0 how does this translate to a VPN configuration?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have taken out a subscription to Bulldog broadband (part of C&W in the UK) which claims to supply [upto] 8 MB per second download. Is there anyway this can be checked?
This company is the only one offering such a high speed while its rivals are offering only 2 mb per second for the same price. Surely there must be a catch somewhere and if so how can this be checked?
So i went to the update page to try and install them but the search bar just keeps searching without giving me any info. I let it run for an hour then closed it.
I have tried windows update and microsoft update both have the same result.
I have a broardband connection and have never had to wait this long before.
I went to set up a new dial up connection in XP.I went to connection wizard, I click next, I check connect to the internet, I click next, I check set up my connection manually and click next. On the how do you want to connect to the internet page, connect using a broad band connection is allready checked and the other choices are greyed out. I cannot uncheck the connect using broadband listing. Every time I try this it is the same thing.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI can connect to broadband by moving the PC into my bedroom, removing the cover from the telephone socket in there and plugging the modem directly into the socket. This is not a satisfactory solution as I do not plan to surf in bed. In other telephone sockets in other rooms, the modem has a flashing green ADSL light which means it is not working properly. My fixed line telephone supplier says is it not a line problem and the ISP (the same company) says it is not a broadband problem. If it is my problem, how do I solve it? I use Windows XP and Internet explorer

View 14 Replies View RelatedI need to have network drive on my Windows XP computer. In order for a software to work, there needs to exist a network drive, named N, existing on my PC. Since there's not a second PC to link to, what I did was to created a directory named est on the same PC , share it out, and then, map a network drive, named N, to it. When my PC has an Ethernet cable connected to a switch, Windows XP will see that N drive (existing on the same PC). The moment I disconnect that Ethernet cable from the switch, the N drive is gone. Is there a way to have a mapped network drive on XP (as mentioned above), without the need to have a network cable connecting that PC to a switch?

Furthermore, I get no icons (at all) in the Network Communications window. The current driver for the Realtek adapter which is listed is a MS driver.
