Computer Showing 100% CPU Usage While Using Broadband?
May 3, 2006
When using AOL Broadband the computer slows down and sometimes takes several seconds to refresh a page.I happened to open the Task Managerand two things came to light:I cannot get the complete Task Manager panel...It only shows TASK and STATUS..it used to show lots more. Also, and this is my problem,it shows CPU USAGE 100%.If I close AOL and go back online it is ok for a while and then starts to slow down to a crawl.
I am running xp sp2 the cpu usage is 100 % and pc locks up for about half an hour after boot up the the cpu usage drops to normal. I found sdfix on this site and ran it here is the report i got
My CPU Usage always shows 100% and my system is getting very slow although I have not installed any big software and have strong antivirus (symantec) whose definition files are updated .So , why is it happening?
I recently allowed someone use of my laptop to access their Yahoo email over a dial-up connection. When I next used the laptop myself, the desktop had re-arranged to the default top left screen configuration and the laptop was noticeably slower in operation. It now appears to operate at 100% CPU usage, whatever programme I attempt to run. I have run Spybot (nothing detected). According to the "user" they did nothing but read their email and did not download anything (that they were aware of).
i know this has been posted before but none of the solutions have worked for me. i have a toshiba satellite laptop. it started running extremely slow and the cpu usage is at 100% all the time. i reformatted and reinstalled windows xp but that didn't solve the problem. i noticed when i was reinstalling windows xp, it was going slowly as it did before, and i hadn't even started up windows yet. when i would click the next button when installing it would do the same slow lagging thing. i tried everything when i did start windows too. i tried deleting the explorer.exe process and retyping it in
Ive been having problems with my desktop computer. If you open up any program, the CPU usage immeaditely goes from like 0 to 100% and occassionally it will shut down and restart. Such times are when I try to run ad-aware or AVG. It will shoot up to 100%, maybe run for a minute then restart the computer. I cant even delete some files because it just restarts before they delete. So, I tried to do a restore since the last time ive been home when it was working good, about a month ago and it did nothing.
I would like to configure a VPN between a office based file server and a mobile machine. Both m/c's are running versions of XP and logins have been set to allow the remote user to conncet as a properly authenticated member of group on the offoce m/c. Problem is I can't set the IP address for the remote machine to connect to. The office conection is via a dsl setup and I have been given an IP address for the internet connection by the ISP. After the ISP IP Address I expect to see a modem (which is also my internal LAN DHCP server) and the IP Address of the machine I wish to connect to. If my ISP has given me an IP address 200.200.1.100, my dsl modem is 192.168.1.255 and the machine I wish to connect to is 192.168.1.100 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0 how does this translate to a VPN configuration?
I am thinking of gettin this really fast cable/broadband for AOL and its askin me that i need to have the above. i know for a fact i have alot of memory so iam sure thats cool but the 233 HMZ iam confused about, my PC is pentium 4.
My friend, who has given a Dell Optiplex GX240 running Win2K Pro. 512MB RAM To help her out, I got rid of porn, viruses, and spyware using: Ad-Aware, AVG spyware and AV free versions, Trend Micro House Call, Spybot I checked the task manager, and has constant 100% CPU usage, avg memory usage The system runs, but apps open slow, so I tried some freeware reg cleaners: CCleaner, Eusing Free Registry Cleaner, Wise Registry cleaner.
I recently installed a winTV card in my computer, ever since that I have noticed that when I press ctrl, alt and delete, the cpu usage appears to be 100% full whenever I try to open an mpeg file I have recorded from the TV card. it is a pentium 4 2.8 ghz processor.
new to this whole thing but here goes. lately my computer has just gone to crap, ram useage gone through the roof and thus everything runs slower and going from one program to another just lags. I recently installed a new hdd although i couldnt see how that would affect it? Either way here is the hijack this log
All of a sudden my computer came to a screaching halt. It says in windows task manager that my cpu usage is at 100%.The image name using all the time is "system" The user name is "system" The cpu is 99
This is a fairly recent problem. I have a Dell computer about 4 months old. Here's a description of the problem. I would appreciate any assistance I can get. I was going to call Dell but I've found I get better help here than Dell! My CPU will start to get louder than normal (it sounds like it is working overtime in there). At the same time, IE freezes up and pages won't load anymore. I can still use email and MSN IM normally, as well as other programs. When I check the "windows task manager," it says the CPU usage is 100%, when normally it's around 2-5% It will do this for up to an hour. Even if I reboot, after it has started up, it continues do this same thing. After it finishes whatever it is doing, CPU usage goes back down and IE works normally again. I'm afraid it might be some spybot program or something that is taking over. I can't figure out what is wrong. But I know this is a good place to come for
I am using broadband and it is working good but in a tray there is a one message Local area connection limited or no conectivity so what is the problem.even there is a repair opetion and I tried it but no changes.using xp-2
I have taken out a subscription to Bulldog broadband (part of C&W in the UK) which claims to supply [upto] 8 MB per second download. Is there anyway this can be checked? This company is the only one offering such a high speed while its rivals are offering only 2 mb per second for the same price. Surely there must be a catch somewhere and if so how can this be checked?
Small home network with a wireless gateway router. Currently on dial up but looking to change to broadband:What kind of firewall do I need to install so a broadband service provider.
You know how sometimes in cop shows or shows that have police investigations in them, they look somewhere on a computer to find out where the user has been on the internet or what he/she has been doing. I know about (but it doesn't show everything, seemingly):C:Documents and Settings(owners name)Local SettingsHistory
my computer is really slow..my cpu usage reaches 100% i tried borrowing my girlfriend's laptop and used it here at my house..it was running good when she was using it in her place..when i used it here it my place it became slow too and had a 100 cpu usage too,,what should i do? is it my internet provider thats causing these troubles? when im not connected to the internet i dont have these problems.
Recently found my computer running very slow almost stopped, not able to perform any function. Through task manager found CPU running at a steady 100%. Ran Hijackthis, spybot, and updated and ran antivirus - with no problems found. started in safe mode and CPU usage was at 1%. Working through msconfig i started turning services off untill i found culprit. The plug and play service is causing my problem with the CPU, but I don't know how to fix it.
I'll make it short.I bought an SSD for FASTER booting times and it's just AMAZING. Though i'm still not satisfied with some things. I switched to winXP due to some issues in windows 7. Here when i restart the PC, when the Windows Splash screen appears, the PC remains IDLE for like 5 seconds. I mean its IDLE, No processor usage/ No HD usage/ and NO Service loading. It's just annoying me. And right after 4 seconds the SSD picks up and the desktop comes up INSTANTLY.
I have a Dell (Intel Pentium 4, 256MB RAM)Running Windows XP Home Edition.I recently had a Spamware/Virus situation (which I'm still working on fixing, with the help of instructions i found in the Spyware forum - Thanks!) which has caused a whole whack of little problems. I've figured out a couple (re-enabled Registry Editing; re-enabled Task Manager; Re-enabled "Display" in control panel), but there are 2 i can't figure out:When I go into "My Computer", my C: Drive is no longer listed. The "Log Off" button no longer appears on the Start menu. Only the "Turn off Computer" button is there.
So i went to the update page to try and install them but the search bar just keeps searching without giving me any info. I let it run for an hour then closed it.
I have tried windows update and microsoft update both have the same result.
I have a broardband connection and have never had to wait this long before.
I'm running XP pro SP2. I have a gig of ram and my mother board is an Intel D101GGC. My CPU is Intel Pentium D 920.
If I use Windows Explorer to go deeper than the first level of any tree, CPU usage goes to 100% and stays there. I've disabled System Restore because it wouldn't let me go back in time anyway and this program is a known resource gobbler. Didn't help. I've attached a hijackthis logfile to see if anyone recognizes a Trojan, etc. I would appreciate any help at all.
Could someone please take a look at my HJT log. My CPU went up to 100% about ten minutes ago and hasn't dropped since. I didn't see any odd processes and I just restarted and it just jumped right back up to 100.
I have a laptop operating on Windows XP. Recently my computer has become extremely slow. I have gone into task manager and noticed that the CPU usage is quite high, even when there is very little running. At times the system idle will hover in the 90% range, however the CPU usage will also stay in the same range. (As far as I know, if idle is at 90%, than CPU usage should not be higher than 10%). I can't figure out what else is running that is making the CPU usage run so high. I have run various virus and spyware tests and all have come out clean. I have used cc cleaner to clean my registry and even update some of my out of date drivers but the problem has continued.
I was just in itunes adding about 12 songs when my comp not only froze, but it also gave me a blue screen. I didn't copy the exact number/code it gave me, but it did say kernal_data_inpage_error. Right now, it seems fine. Not blazing fast, but normal. I had itunes opened about 10 minutes ago just after restarting and it took a good 5 minutes just to cntrl alt delete and use task manager to close it. I also got a blue screen once over night when trying to use MyDefrag to defrag my larger slave drive. It worked fine in defragmenting my smaller master drive.
My computer is running at 100% full capacity all of the time. As you can imagine, this makes things run very slowly. Any ideas of what could be causing this problem? My task manager has unfortunately stopped showing processes, and no programs are running when the capacity shows 100% usage.
I'm using a dell inspiron 8000, Windows 2000, Pentium III.
