Debugging :: HP Pavilion PC - Windows Event ID 16002 AFD

Sep 15, 2014

I have a HP Pavillion PC which is connected to my wireless network due to restrictions in the house. I have been having some issues which i suspect are related. Nearly every day now i either lose wireless connection, even though other devices near by have no issues or my outlook stops sending/receiving. I just get the progress bar and nothing happens. The only way i can solve these issues is by a restart which is starting to get tedious now.

I have looked through my error logs and i seem to have this event that pops up...

Closing a TCP socket with local port number 50513 in process 1008 is taking longer than expected. The local port number may not be available until the close operation is completed. This happens typically due to misbehaving network drivers. Ensure latest updates are installed for Windows and any third-party networking software including NIC drivers, firewalls, or other security products.

I have updated my wireless card drivers to the very latest i can obtain. I have even tried plugging in a usb Wireless Belkin adapter and still no joy.

I really want to avoid a full windows reinstall but i cannot carry on like this.

Debugging :: HP Pavilion / Windows 8.1 BSOD Error 0xc0000001

Mar 29, 2014

So my computer (HP pavilion HPE) BSOD'ed for the first time yesterday afternoon (running Windows 8.1, upgraded via download from original Windows 7, so I don't have a recovery disc). Along with the error code, the BSOD says that File: WINDOWSsystem32winload.exe is missing or contains errors.

I have tried pressing F8, Shift+F8, and holding Shift on start up, and nothing works. I know I'm supposed to upload dump files with this post, but I can't/don't know how to get my computer to the point where I can access these files. I can access the HP Startup Menu by pressing Esc on start up, which has an option to display System Information (not sure if below info is useful or not...):

Debugging :: Random NON-BSOD Crashes - Event ID 41

Jun 23, 2014

My crashes are not related to BSODs. I HAVE NOT GOTTEN ANY BSODs AND THUS DO NOT HAVE ANY DUMP FILES.

For about the past month and a half, I've been getting random crashes in Windows 7. My computer suddenly turns off and reboots itself. Just a black screen. Sometimes I don't get a crash for five days, sometimes I get one twice in the same day.

My copy of Windows 7 wasn't genuine. I did a completely clean install of a genuine copy of Windows 8.1 one week ago, just to rule out problems on the OS level. I just got a random restart an hour ago. I only brought over media files from Win7, so I'd say my problem must be hardware related, or something to do with my power socket.

Thoughts? Unfortunately, I can't change sockets easily, as I would have to move my computer into another room for possibly weeks just to see if the problem reoccurred (it's so rare).

The event viewer shows that these crashes coincide with Event ID 41: Kernel-Power. The event data is always blank as follows:

BugcheckCode 0
BugcheckParameter1 0x0
BugcheckParameter2 0x0
BugcheckParameter3 0x0
BugcheckParameter4 0x0
SleepInProgress false
PowerButtonTimestamp 0

My monitors do not turn off when the computer self-reboots and they are connected to the same surge protector as the computer. Does that pretty much rule out a socket problem?

My computer specs (nothing is overclocked):

i5 3570k @ base clock
Gigabyte Windforce 3X GTX 670 graphics card
Dell U2312HM (main monitor)
Dell P2214H (2nd monitor)
CM Storm "Spawn" mouse
Corsair K70 mechanical keyboard
Corsair TX750M PSU
16GB Corsair Vengeance LP RAM
MSI Z77MA-G45 mATX motherboard
Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB HDD
OCZ 120GB Solid 3 SSD

Things I've tried:
1. Ruled out overheating: my computer is very well cooled. Prime95 can't push any of my CPU's cores past 50C. My CPU runs @ about 35C during heavy gaming and my GPU doesn't seem to get past 40C.
2. Run Prime95 for about 14 hours with no errors.
3. Run Memtest86 to rule out faulty memory. I only did one pass, so I'm guessing I should do more?
4. Unchecked the "automatically restart" option in advanced system properties. It hasn't had any effect.
5. Uninstalled my GPU drivers and updated to the latest ones.
6. Tried to rule out a faulty PSU to no avail. Hardware monitor programs give me crazy voltage readings (8V on my +12V), but voltages seem normal in the BIOS. Should I buy a digital multimeter to test voltages under full load?

Debugging :: Kernel Processor Power Event ID 37 (Warning)

May 26, 2014

Recently I noticed a game that I had been playing had started to stutter and slowdown more than usual, the performance issues were to be expected as the games engine is notorious for being poorly optimized, however these occurrences were fairly rare in comparison to the issues i'm experiencing now.

It seems for the last two days the performance of said game had been dismal, where i'd get a mostly consistent frame-rate before, I now only have a stutter riddled mess.

Looking through the Event Log I noticed a entry shown as; Kernel-Processor-Power Event ID 37, the text below it shows this; 'The speed of processor 0 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 7 seconds since the last report' the entry had been generated at '7:56pm' of today, which I found odd, as I believe that's when I started my game.

This had not been the only instance it seems, there were some entries from a few weeks back that show the same thing, however they were few and far in between. It seem I have 3 entries, all from today (12:00am, 3:56pm, 7:56pm) all warnings.

Debugging :: Unexpected Shutdowns On New Desktop - Event ID 41 / Task 63

Nov 9, 2013

Main Symptom : The new PC stops responding after several hours (sometimes a few) of intensive work and then it shuts down.Sometimes it produces a blue screen with the "critical process dies" message and sometimes doesn't.The problem was appearing also after fresh install of 2 versions of windows 7.Now in official Windows 8 it appears also. All these 3 windows versions were working fine on other desktops.

Event viewer : One critical error appears every time : Event ID 41 , task 63 , kernel-power.

Connected Peripherals :
1)Keyboard
2)Stylus pen
3)Printer
4)Wireless usb adapter
5)Stereo speakers
6)usb hub
7) four external hard disc drives

What I personally tried so far and what the technician did :

1. Tried 3 versions of Windows to see if the problem had to do with them. The problem appeared in all versions.

2. Updated all drivers and MB and VGA drivers of course. No result.

3. Ran memtest and hard disc check. No problems.

4. Disabled one of the two audio drivers ( disabled nvidia audio and left enabled the realtek audio). No result.

5. Disabled sleep.No result

6. I personally checked for 3 hours how the PC responds with only mouse and keyboard connected and without heavy use. The PC didn't crash. The technician also did the same with his mouse and his keyboard for 10 hours but without heavy use also. The PC didn't crash. The technician returned my PC and said that he couldn't find any problem in his lab and that the problem must probably have to do with the peripherals.

So when the problem really appears : The problem appears when all the peripherals are connected and after a little bit of intensive use. ( Photoshop many hours - Transfers of thousand of images from one external hard dick to the other - Printer and internet use ).

The same peripherals were used on the old PC with winxp, in the same electricity plug, and there was no problem at all.

I have spent a lot of time to understand if the problem is software or hardware related. My guess goes to a possibly problematic PSU.The PSU is Corsair 650W and new of course but i think it can't handle many peripherals and intensive use.If the problem was driver related then i guess that the crash would appear not only after heavy use but also after normal use.Another guess is that there is a problem with usb controller and that's why the peripherals that are connected via usb are causing problems,

I attach the SF diagnostic folder.

Debugging :: Kernel Power Event 41 Task 63 - Random Shutdown

Mar 15, 2013

I have had three of these shutdowns randomly occur over the last 2 days. I have no warning on when they will occur.

The computer is only 5 weeks old, so i wouldn't except an overheat issue personally. I can think of no new software i have installed since this has started. So far, it has always happened while playing a game (Diablo 3) but that is likely just coincidental, as that is what i do most on this computer.

Can't Activate Windows 8 On HP Pavilion DV6-6047cl

Jan 27, 2013

two weeks ago I had a hard drive failure on the stated laptop. I installed an OCZ ssd and reinstalled windows 7 from a retail family pack. I used the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) windows key from the sticker on the HP laptop. This activated no problem. I purchased this laptop new at SAMS club.

I also upgraded two desktop computers to windows 8 that also had this family pack copy of windows 7 installed on them (about a year ago). Both of these computers activated with no problem. I also installed a separate windows media player upgrade on each computer.

I then upgraded the laptop to windows 8. I also upgraded it to windows media player.
I noticed that the key provided during the upgrade was the same provided by Microsoft during the upgrade of one of the desktop computers.

The validation was successful at first.A day later I got a message stating that windows was not genuine. I then attempted to purchase another key and Microsoft stated that I could not purchase a key in my current country or region (I am in Wisconsin).

The website stated that I had to validate windows by purchasing a validation pack at a local retailer.

Why cant I validate windows? I have the COA still attached and nothing is different about the computer except the replaced hard drive.

Windows 8.1 Event Log Errors

Oct 27, 2013

I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8 and started getting a whole bunch of Event Log Errors. Today I downloaded and installed new drivers for Windows 8.1 that were posted on the ASRock site dated 10/25/2013. Much to my surprise the new drivers actually made most of the Event Log Errors go away - at least for now!

The first one is the Event ID 257, Defrag Error. I did a fresh install of Windows 8 and let it setup the SSD with the three partitions - Recover Partition, EFI System Partition and the Windows 8 Partition. I use Acronis 2013 to back up the SSD on a regular basis! For some reason Windows 8.1 wants to Defrag a partition on the SSD? What do I have to change to make the Event Log Error stop. What have I done to cause the problem?

The second one is the Event ID 10016, DistributedCom Error. I have Googled/Binged and have come up with what appears to be, at least for a novice, convoluted procedures to fix. Is there a real straight forward detailed instruction on how to go about changing whatever it is that needs to be changed to fix the error. Again, what did I do to the system to make this error happen?

I'm real close to a system that might be Event Log Error free (at least for a moment) if that is possible.

Cannot Set UEFI Boot Order To CD Windows 8.1 HP Pavilion

Jan 10, 2014

Windows 8.1: HP Pavilion 2475ea Desktop PC.

I have Secure Boot turned off. I have Legacy Boot turned on, but do not think that is needed.

This link gives me instructions to boot from CD but they seem not to make sense from No 2... [URL] .....

In that at 5-6-7 it seems to require me to select the CD then boot to Windows from HDD then restart and do the same again, but this time select CD again, or something??

I expected to set the device, then restart the computer and it would boot from the device, not restart Windows as described. I was able to boot from a WinPE 4b CD.

I then decided to try changing boot order in the UEFI BIOS. From then on the HP (F9) described menu showed 'Windows Boot Menu' only under UEFI Devices. I could only boot from CD after putting the order back to 'Windows Boot menu' at the top of the order list; after which, as long as the CD was in the drive the (F9) list showed the CD drive as selectable to boot from.

My issue is that I have a HP Pavilion G6 2399-sa and it is currently running the HP OEM version of windows 8, I have previously updated to windows 8.1...twice in fact and every time that I have updated to windows 8.1 I get random freezing issues. These freezing issues occur at random times there doesn't really seem to be some pattern to it.

I know that I have to update to windows 8.1 as there are apps which refuse to be installed unless I update ... So what to do because I need to update again so I can use my apps...I do recall reading something about Dynamic ticking I think? It was some command in cmd prompt like bcdedit /set disabledynamicticking yes I believe.

I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro x64. I just began to get an Event ID 1 in my event log at boot time. It's only a warning and can probably be ignored it but curious minds like to know what is causing it and possibly how to fix it. Here's all the specifics as recorded in my event log:

The backing-file for the real-time session "DiagLog" has reached its maximum size. As a result, new events will not be logged to this session until space becomes available. This error is often caused by starting a trace session in real-time mode without having any real-time consumers.

Maintenance :: Pavilion DM3 / Windows 8 Pro - Very Slow Boot After Updates

Apr 12, 2013

I have a Pavillion DM3 that I have updated to Windows 8 Pro. I have left the Win7 Home on as well and have a dual boot that I was going to keep until I was happy with Windows 8.

Windows 8 installed OK on a new partition and ran very well. I loaded some other software like Office and Acrobat, and it still started and ran very well. I then let it apply the Windows and Office updates (about 70 items). It then took about 10mins to boot. Thinking I had corrupted something, I tried the auto repair, but that didn't work, so I tried refresh and rebuilt the Win 8.

I reinstall all the items I had installed previously, and applied the updates again, but exactly the same problem - very slow to boot. I have now reverted to Win7 again, and it is all working fine again. I have left the HP System partition unchanged, and as the active drive. I did try various boot rebuilds but that didn't work either.

There must be something in the updates that causes this but I don't know how to find out what.

Where Can Find Windows Explorer In Event Viewer

Jan 1, 2014

I started up my computer and Windows explorer randomly froze up and hung. I didnt do anything to provoke it. I just sat here waiting for my computer to boot up.Then when I thought it was finished I opened firefox. Then Windows explorer just freezes completely. I tried doing windows key + r. It opened the run window but it froze. Then I tried moving my mouse on the right to open up the charm bar, ( I think it's called that) to hit settings and then restart. When I clicked settings the whole bar just closed out and would close out every time.

I right clicked on the task bar to try and open task manager. When I clicked on task manager it wouldn't ever open. So I couldn't even shut down properly. I just pushed the power button. Then I turned it on again and the same exact thing happened. So I shut it off again.

Then I turned it back on and went to msconfig before it froze up and I set it to boot into safe mode. Then I got into safe mode and ran a malware bytes scan and an avast scan. Nothing came up on either so I just went back to normal boot. The problem stopped now but I want to know what caused that whole thing to happen because it hasn't happened to me before. So I want to look at event viewer to see if that'll explain it. Where would I find that at in event viewer?
