Printer When Connected To Usb Port Causes Monitor To Saving Mode?
Nov 18, 2011
While my pc is on, I plug in the usb cable of my canon pixma MP276 printer. When the usb cable contact to the usb port, the lcd monitor goes into power saving mode/sleep mode (black) immediately and never turns on again no matter what I do (clicking on mouse, pressing keys on keyboard)I then need to restart the pc and everything will be normal.
I am getting a lot of BSOD when my laptop is connected to an external monitor using a display-port cable. The system is fine when I don't use a external monitor and use just laptop screen. External monitor is a Dell 30inch. I have tried different display-port cables, different monitors, tried connecting via vga...still get BSOD, so I am thinking the problem is more on the windows 7/software side rather than hardware.
1. Uninstall AVG free edition 2011
2. Upgraded network-gigabit driver directly from intel instead of Lenovo
3a. Upgraded Nvidia drivers directly from nvidia for Quadro 1000m (ver 8.17.12.7533 - 5/20/2011) - got BSOD within 30min
3b. Downgraded Nvidia drivers to version from Lenovo (ver 8.17.12.6696 - 2/2/2011) - still get BSOD but there is more time between BSODs.
I am using a lenovo w520 laptop, win 7 SP1, x64. 8gb memory, intel 510 solid-state drive, Nvidia Quadro 1000 and Intel HD Graphics 3000, No-Anti-Virus and running zone-alarm firewall.
I left my computer running overnight as I usually do. When I went back to it this morning, it was stuck in power saving mode. When I rebooted, everything looked fine and the windows logo loaded but when I reached the login screen it went directly to Power Saving mode and got stuck there.
The monitor seems to go into power saving mode when entering/exiting a game such as a game in steam. (But it doesn't happen every time) the only way to get it out is hard restart. Yes I've tried other monitors, as well as display drivers, and there also seems to be nothing wrong in the Bios.

I recently called Dell Support and they used Dell Connect to try to fix it. Yesterday, I got home and my screen was blank. So I turned the computer on and logged in. Within seconds it did the Power Saving Mode thing. Then I let it go until today. Now I can get on the internet but when I run games that I play, it still does it.
I am building a htpc but cannot seem to get windows to install onto my SSD.The SSD is visible in BIOS and on the 'where do you want to install windows' screen.I am wondering if that is because the OS cannot install to my mobos sata 3 portsI havecrucial m4 SSD 4GBMSI H61MA-E35 with usb3/sata3The sata 3 ports are ASmedia according to the manual.i think i know where this is heading and will be fairly annoyed if so because i bought this board specifically for the sata 3 boot drive option.
i am trying to connect my internal harddrive for my dead laptop via a usb port of a working one, but i get the message that the device is not recognized
I have a new problem. My monitor has begun to blink repeatedly after coming out of power saving mode (when the screen turns off automatically due to inactivity).
I have no problems with this in that past. This problem just started out of the blue a few days ago. Initially, it would just blink once or twice coming out of power saving mode, now it might blink 10 or more times before the monitor stays on. Once the monitor is on, it functions fine. The blinking only occurs after coming out of power saving mode.
I have 4 computers in my office.Out of 4,3 of them has a problem for the past 2 months. They all run windows 7.
They keep working for about 30 mins to 1 hour after which they suddenly goes into power saving mode. The monitor goes dark but the CPU light and the fan still work. Then after 10-20 seconds it automatically restarts.
When logging in after the restart,It shows "The system has recovered from a serious error".This happens every 30 mins and for these 3 systems.(I bought it from the same shop last year),But the other one works perfect for about 4 years.
I have tried cleaning the fan, sink and even reinstalled a fresh copy of windows 7.Still the problem persists.
What could be causing the following situation- When restarting my computer (Windows 7 64bit) after the "starting windows" screen appears the screen will go dark and display "power saving mode". After about 60 seconds the computer will restart from the "starting windows" screen and complete the restart process. Once it completes everything the computer runs fine.
I have a HP PC and I'm trying to use HP recovery plus to install Windows 7. It consists of 3 discs and the thing is, that I insert the first one in the optical drive, restart computer, press F11 to enter the recovery menu or whatever. Then it loads Windows files, then the HP recovery itself starts. The problem is, that when I enter the recovery menu, the computer will go to power saving mode after a while, no matter what. I tried pressing some random keys to get it back up, but it just doesn't work.
i have a Sapphire hd 7850 graphics card and two monitors connected to it one hdmi one dvi-d. both screens are showing the same image and when i go into screen resolution it shows only one "generic PnP montitor". this was a fresh install of windows seven and it did work before that. the driver for the graphics card is saying "standard VGA adaptor" is this normal
I have a Sceptre X20WG Naga 20.1" monitor on a DVI connection with my EVGA GTX460 card. I was using it yesterday while studying for finals and decided to hook up my 37" Westinghouse TV via VGA connection, using a VGA-to-DVI converter to plug into the graphics card, as the card only has dual-DVI and mini-HDMI outputs. It was working grand as a second screen, no issue at all. Now, today, I turned on my computer and my Sceptre Monitor wasn't outputting any images at all, it just said no signal detected and then went to sleep, though my computer was still on.
So I turned on the TV out of curiosity and found that the TV was now the main screen, still with the VGA connection, and I hadn't unplugged anything since yesterday. So I logged in and right-clicked on the desktop, went to screen resolution, and here it says that the TV is the only screen detected, even after hitting detect. So I unplugged the VGA from to TV and plugged it into the Sceptre Monitor. Turned on the computer and the monitor worked like a charm on the VGA cable. I also plugged the DVI cable that I was using for the monitor into the TV and that worked like a champ too.
The only reason this is bugging me is because I won't always be using the TV as a main display because it's kinda of a pain to sit close to a screen that big. So I am currently on this forum while my monitor is using the VGA connection. It also seems to vary from which DVI port I use on the videocard because if I plug the VGA cable with converter into the 2nd port, there is no video output, but if it's in the first port, works great. I'm going to try just the DVI cable to the TV on each card port to see what the deal is there.
So basically: The cable isn't the problem. The VGA needs to be in the 1st DVI port on the card to work. The DVI doesn't work at all when hooked up to the monitor. What I want is to be able to use DVI on the monitor and VGA on the TV.

Well, running Windows 7 ultimate on a Dell xps m1330 laptop. Everything looks good, but at work I am connected to a matrox triple-head-to-go device which is connected to (3) 22' monitors (3840x1280 resolution). Now when I connected it, ran the nvidia app, it found it and worked great.
Problem is I get home, no external connected, so running off the laptop with the basic resolution, I am trying to start apps (firefox, stickies, etc.) and I guess they were in other spots at work as I don't see them.
I forced a close on FF, then re-started, rt clicking and maximizing which worked, but then other apps like stickies don't have that option. An alt-tab shows it running in the lower right (see screenshot), but there is absolutely no way of getting to the app! I did close the app completely and restarted, but it does restart in a location not on the screen.
I have a splitter that I use to split laptop display to a computer monitor and a TV. Problem is that both the monitor and the TV goes to sleep after about 3 hours displaying. The splitters input connection is from a docking station from where I dock my dell laptop. I only get the display back on the two screens by powering of the splitter for a few seconds then powering it on again.
I recently for the first time went over my monthly data cap for broadband and looking it to it a bit more it looks like a lot of the programs my kids are using are hogging the bandwidth. I don't really want to pay for more bandwidth (as I already pay way above average as I live in a small rural village) but I don't want to restrict too much what my kids are doing. The solution to me seems to be to see if I can monitor and if possible control to some extent the data on each of the IP connected to the router if that is at all possible. I have looked at my router settings and unfortunately they do not permit anything more than traffic monitoring and there are no custom firmwares to allows additional features of any use. Is there any software that I could use to do this?
I have recently downloaded Dell AIO 946 printer driver - successfully - but when I request Windows 7 pc to print a document it cannot as it can't find the printer port. Being new to this I need guidance as to how to ascertain which port is correct. Printer has USB cable connected and from port tab is using LPT1 port is this the correct one? Please help - I am totally confused????
i purchased windows 7 professional to virtual pc to windows xp so i can vpn into my works network.
i've downloaded virtual pc and windows xp, start a session and able to log into my works network via vpn.
i lose internet connectivity once connected by vpn on my windows xp and when i try to start up a remote desktop session, my attempt times out having not connected. i am using a router but this is not the issue because i brought a laptop from work who only has windows xp on it and was able to log in the network.
i've disabled firewalls both in xp and windows 7 but no success. i've searched forever on these forums attempting different settings. i log into my workstation at work and my profile has full access so it is really with windows 7 or the the virtual pc xp
I have a new Toshiba Tecra R840 on Win7 64 bit. Much of the time, it is connected to a Toshiba docking station. My printer is an older, parallel-only HP LaserJet 6L. It's connected to the PC with a Dynex parallel-to-USB cable.
Here's the thing - Windows installs a new printer driver if I plug the printer cable into a different USB port on either the PC or the docking station. So far, I have three of them. What's worse, each printer driver will only print on the USB port that was used to create it. Quite a nuisance.
Can I do something to have a single printer driver work regardless of which USB port is used?
I have had numerous customers who randomly can't print. Upon looking at their computer, the printer port will be selected on "LPT1" instead of the proper USB or TCP/IP port. I have not been able to find any correlation. This happens on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 on both business and residential computers. Originally I had thought that customers must be attempting repairs on their own. However, after 8 years and seeing this same thing happen to people who are afraid to even attempt to fix their own issue I believe that there must be some bug in Windows that causes this printer port to change.
I am using an HP photosmart 1215 printer w/ HP 7200C driver. Printer is not printing. It was when I first installed it but not from internet. So, I started to fool with it and it quit. Might be the incorrect port because I changed port to USB port the changed it back to LPT! printer port. Now it won't print at all.
I have an HP pavillion notebook with Windows 7 and when trying to install my Canon MX860 printer, there are no ports showing at all, neither LPT or com ports. How can i install the ports so i can connect my printer?
I have a Laptop and a Desktop system.I have installed windows 7 on both the systems.I have a printer.I use internet on both the systems via Wireless Route i.e. connected to a broadband internet service without any problems.Currently I use printer separately connecting to either systems if I want to print any file.So far no problems. But now I have two options to connect a Printer as a network Printer:1. Shared Printer2. Connected Via Wireless RouterI have successfully shared the printer to a system and have used the printer from other. But there is a problem that I need to keep my System (Desktop) on all the time I want use the Printer. So I need to know the Proper Settings to connect a Printer to a Wireless Router so that it can be accessed from both systems without keeping any of my systems on all the time.To do that I need to know step by step settings because I have tried a lot but nothing happened.
I recently installed windows xp mode on my windows 7 installation. I also often use acronis true image 9.1 to image disks. I have a USB connected SATA drive bay that I use for imaging the drives, and I am wondering if there is a way to configure it automatically treat that device as connected instead of shared. I would like to be able to launch the app from my desktop instead of having to start the virtual PC every time. Any thoughts?
