View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an installation script that changes the COM port numbers based on certain hardware that is installed. In Windows 2000, I use regini.exe to import the listing of registry entries below. The reason for this was to allow the permissions on the FriendlyName value to be changed.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetEnumACPIPNP05011
Device Parameters
PortName = COM5
[Code].....
I tried this same process in Windows 7 and everything works except for changing the FriendlyName value. The only way I've been able to change this value is to manually (in regedit) "take ownership" of the "1" key and then change the permissions to Full Control. However, I need to do this in a script to make it transparent to the user.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a new Toshiba Tecra R840 on Win7 64 bit. Much of the time, it is connected to a Toshiba docking station. My printer is an older, parallel-only HP LaserJet 6L. It's connected to the PC with a Dynex parallel-to-USB cable.
Here's the thing - Windows installs a new printer driver if I plug the printer cable into a different USB port on either the PC or the docking station. So far, I have three of them. What's worse, each printer driver will only print on the USB port that was used to create it. Quite a nuisance.
Can I do something to have a single printer driver work regardless of which USB port is used?
I have had numerous customers who randomly can't print. Upon looking at their computer, the printer port will be selected on "LPT1" instead of the proper USB or TCP/IP port. I have not been able to find any correlation. This happens on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 on both business and residential computers. Originally I had thought that customers must be attempting repairs on their own. However, after 8 years and seeing this same thing happen to people who are afraid to even attempt to fix their own issue I believe that there must be some bug in Windows that causes this printer port to change.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using an HP photosmart 1215 printer w/ HP 7200C driver. Printer is not printing. It was when I first installed it but not from internet. So, I started to fool with it and it quit. Might be the incorrect port because I changed port to USB port the changed it back to LPT! printer port. Now it won't print at all.

View 7 Replies View RelatedAfter my computer stopped being able to print to my printer wirelessly (the printer isn't a wireless printer, but is wired to a wireless print server), I deleted the printer and tried to reinstall via the Add Printer Wizard. The printer wizard sees the printer on the network, but when I select it to install, it can't find the TCP/IP port and installation fails. How can this be?
I *can* print from this computer to the printer when connected directly via USB, and other computers can print to that printer wirelessly.
I have a Touchmate PC with two sets of audio ports (3.55mm jacks or 1/8" ) the front ones are not working (because they are disconnected) so i wish to use the rear ones, however, windows is set up so that the audio output (into my headphones) send information through all ports but the front mic, which is fine because i use the rear output port. My problem is that the microphone settings will only allow the microphone to be read through the front microphone port. Is there any way i can change these settings so that the microphone reads through the rear microphone port.

View 1 Replies View RelatedA client of mine uses an old dos based database program that can't print to any printer that uses a USB connection, but it works fine with parallel. I've just upgraded them to Windows 7, and some of their printers (which I didn't know at the time, I wish I did), don't have compatible Windows 7 drivers. Does anybody here know of a new model printer that still can use a parallel port and works with windows 7? I know HP Laserjet 1300 works, because they have several of those, but I'm hoping I can find actual new machines (it's a longshot, I know).

I have three computers on a network and and an HP officejet J4680 which had a ip of 192.168.1.68 on the old network and everything worked well. On the new network the printer ip has changed to 192.168.1.2 and the computers can print to the printer ok however I cannot scan a document. The paperport software seems to be looking for 192.168.1.68 and I cannot find a way to get paperport to look to 198.168.1.2. The exact same problem exists with irfranview.
