I have recently downloaded Dell AIO 946 printer driver - successfully - but when I request Windows 7 pc to print a document it cannot as it can't find the printer port. Being new to this I need guidance as to how to ascertain which port is correct. Printer has USB cable connected and from port tab is using LPT1 port is this the correct one? Please help - I am totally confused????

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a new Toshiba Tecra R840 on Win7 64 bit. Much of the time, it is connected to a Toshiba docking station. My printer is an older, parallel-only HP LaserJet 6L. It's connected to the PC with a Dynex parallel-to-USB cable.
Here's the thing - Windows installs a new printer driver if I plug the printer cable into a different USB port on either the PC or the docking station. So far, I have three of them. What's worse, each printer driver will only print on the USB port that was used to create it. Quite a nuisance.
Can I do something to have a single printer driver work regardless of which USB port is used?
I have had numerous customers who randomly can't print. Upon looking at their computer, the printer port will be selected on "LPT1" instead of the proper USB or TCP/IP port. I have not been able to find any correlation. This happens on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 on both business and residential computers. Originally I had thought that customers must be attempting repairs on their own. However, after 8 years and seeing this same thing happen to people who are afraid to even attempt to fix their own issue I believe that there must be some bug in Windows that causes this printer port to change.

View 7 Replies View RelatedAfter my computer stopped being able to print to my printer wirelessly (the printer isn't a wireless printer, but is wired to a wireless print server), I deleted the printer and tried to reinstall via the Add Printer Wizard. The printer wizard sees the printer on the network, but when I select it to install, it can't find the TCP/IP port and installation fails. How can this be?
I *can* print from this computer to the printer when connected directly via USB, and other computers can print to that printer wirelessly.
I was trying to add an HP 1200SE printer manually by way of linksys printer server(no Win 7 updated drivers). After configuring it, it didn't work so I attempted to redo entries. I've just upgraded them to Windows 7, and some of their printers (which I didn't know at the time, I wish I did), don't have compatible Windows 7 drivers. Does anybody here know of a new model printer that still can use a parallel port and works with windows 7? I know HP Laserjet 1300 works, because they have several of those, but I'm hoping I can find actual new machines (it's a longshot, I know).

My Dell 964 printer will not print after installing W 7 x64.
I tried compatibility mode to Vista service pack 2, tried unplugging, deleting and reinstalling drivers, it just will not take.
I am at a loss here and why can't this just be a simple fix??
Everything else seemed to adapt itself from the upgrade from V x64 to W7 x64.
Sure a few glitches, but all updated fine.

My Dell Windows 7 now cannot print or add a new printer. When I try I receive a message" Windows can not add printer the local spooer service is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine." Been on services and trying other things with out a printer.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI need help getting my Dell Photo AIO printer 926 to work w/ Windows 7. I only plan on using it for a couple months until I get a new printer (once Windows 7 comes out that I know should work hassle free), but i DO need it now because school is starting and I don't want to have to convert all documents to word 2003 and then email them to my old computer...
All the drivers are installed, and it IS running in vista compatability mode. It just WONT print. When I try printing I usually don't get any errors. In word I do get an error though which says that the printer is not set up correctly. If I try to do a test page it just says cannot print. Windows 7 does not say anything is wrong.
Now I normally try printing from random websites, heres what happens. The first time that I send a document to print from a website it flashes in the document queue for about a second and then disappears. Afterwords if I try to send a document it won't even appear in the queue. From MS word I cannot even send the document... it won't work.
Now i DID get it to work once but that was after I had installed like 3 copies of the driver and the same printer was registered multiple times... I just couldn't have that. Oh and for some reason it had stopped the print spooler so I couldn't print anyways. So I went to removed all the drivers (and I think I removed all the copies, not sure how to really check...) and reinstalled the printer. Now the printer isn't working even though Windows 7 says it's ok...
Any ideas?
EDIT: oh, and any non-computer related functions work such as copying, whereas stuff like scanning/printing will not. So I figure it's something with the drivers =(
EDIT 2: working now... I reinstalled about another 3-4 times with different install settings each time, and I changed the service pack that it was in compatibility mode for; not sure which worked but atleast it's working now.
This happened before though before it turned off the print spooler, so I will mark as solved for now but It may break again. I'll update this again with info soon.
I have a Dell 2135cn MFP printer setup on my established network at home and all computers connect to it with no problems except 1
My win 7 64bit system will not connect to the printer when I try to add it, I get the error that states that the printer is not connected to the network. I can browse to the printer on 192.168.1.8 and see the print configure page so i know its visable through port 80.
I then installed windows xp pro on a vmware on my win 7 64 bit system and then installed the printer on the vm OS with no problems so I know the problem is with the win 7 64bit installation.
I have the latest drivers from dell and regardless of trying the setup the printer I cannot get the win7 64bit to see the printer during setup.
Dell 720 printer driver does not work on HP window 7 64 bits..
where can i find one that works?
