Unable To Install Windows 7 64 On Ssd While Connected To Sata 3 Port?
Jan 21, 2012
I am building a htpc but cannot seem to get windows to install onto my SSD.The SSD is visible in BIOS and on the 'where do you want to install windows' screen.I am wondering if that is because the OS cannot install to my mobos sata 3 portsI havecrucial m4 SSD 4GBMSI H61MA-E35 with usb3/sata3The sata 3 ports are ASmedia according to the manual.i think i know where this is heading and will be fairly annoyed if so because i bought this board specifically for the sata 3 boot drive option.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. I recently developed hard drive trouble and have had to order a replacement.Instead of installing Windows 7 all over again, with all the drivers, etc., I want to clone my existing hard drive to the new one.I intend to connect one of the hard drives to my system via a USB SATA cable with the other drive connected inside my system.

Using Tyan K8W Thunder s2885 in rack mount case. The board is over 10 years old. Dual AMD Opteron 250 processors, 64 bit. RAM 8 Gb. ATI Radion HD 3650, AGP. There is only the video card, driving a single LCD monitor, PSP mouse & USB keyboard, and the HDD attached to the board, no peripherals.I am installing Win 7 home Premium 64 bit. I have had Windows 7 running on this board for over a year, from an IDE 80 gig drive.I installed a new SATA 500 gb and have only that drive in the case.
I have to manually load 114R5_x64_15150_logo drivers for Sil Image SATA controller, from a USB drive. I have just spent a day learning about and using DISKPART to finally be able to start the install. The install starts OK, expands and loads files. About 2 minutes into 'expanding files' I get BSOD, STOP: 0x00000124,(0xFFFFFA800643F038,0X00000000B604A001,0X000000000000813)I have repeated the steps and reproduced the problem at about the same time into the install. I have no idea if there is a way to read/post a log. Since windows is not installed, there is not the usual dump available.

I'm attempting to install a retail copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit (VPCEB15FM) or "PCG-71312L" on this laptop. However, this message appears: "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now." The problem is that I cannot find the Intel 5 Series 4 Port SATA AHCI Controller drivers for Windows 7 64-Bit to put on a floppy or USB drive. I've combed the Sony website and Google and the only Intel 5 Series 4 Port SATA AHCI Controller Drivers that can be placed on a floppy or USB are for Windows XP. Without the TXTSETUP.OEM, I'm dead in the water! The 64-Bit drivers (INDOTH-00215023-0042.EXE) are for an already installed Windows 7. BTW guys, the the BIOS settings on this laptop is as anemic as it gets, so there is really no way to optimize there..

I bought a cable with ESATA on one end and SATA on the other end. What am I supposed to do with it? I connected a standard SATA drive to one end and the other end to the ESATA port on the back of the computer, and used an external power supply for the drive. The BIOS does not see the drive. Suspecting the drive needed to be powered from the same power supply as the computer, I plugged the drive into a normal power connector in the computer, but used the new cable to connect it to the external ESATA port. Still the BIOS sees nothing. The drive works perfectly as a SATA drive in the normal SATA connection.

MB Intel BOX DX58OG
PSU Corsair 600W
MEM 4G KST KVR1333D3/4GR x3
EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti
Western Digital 500 GB SATA 6.0 GB-s Internal OEM Drive WD5000AAKX
Western Digital 2 TB Caviar Black SATA 6GB/s Internal OEM Drive WD2002FAEX
Just built this machine. Installed Windows 7 on the 500GB drive. Both drives are plugged into the blue SATA 6GB ports on my board. My drivers for these controllers are Marvell 91xx SATA 6G v1.2.0.1002 (Dated 3/7/2011). The second 2TB drive shows up in BIOS as well as Drive Management in Windows, but it will not be recognized as an accessible drive that can be formatted, partitioned, or anything. I get an error each time I attempt to format or partition through Drive Management. When I plug the 2TB drive into one of the other (black, Intel) SATA ports, the drive works fine, but in the blue ports it just won't seem to work. The 500GB drive, however, works perfectly as the boot disk in these ports.

As you probably know the issue is that the HDD shows as removable device in the taskbar.
I have the lastest drivers available from Asmedia and it does not remove the icon from the taskbar.
I also try the MS register fix My internal SATA device appears in Devices and Printers and in the - Microsoft Answers
1- Since the sata port is not Intel , would the register location be the same for the proposed solution above to work?
2- I tried channels 0..5 , should I try any other number? The solution says that the channel in device manager it is not always the correct one. Under device manager , general tab it displays "Location 0 (Channel 1, Target 0, Lun 0)"

i upgraded to windows 7, but also went to microcenter and purchased a sony optiarc 24x dvd burner. they claimed it was new, but microcenter has products come in plastic bags sometimes. i was leery.
windows 7 has been up for days, i've used the optiarc a few times. i tried to burn a cd using the windows 7 burning feature, and it was about 600mb and took about 15 minutes (does that even sound right for 52x?). with 3 minutes left, it froze. windows was working fine, but i eventually had to halt the task. when i did, explorer died, and i couldn't bring it back. i did ctrl+alt+del and shut down the PC, but it never happened. i just kept hearing the dvd burner spin up and down.
finally had to turn it off, when i turned it back on it posted then said "press any key to boot from cd," then "boot failure," so i restarted, went into the bios and the HD was set as first boot device. saved and tried again. same thing. turned the PC off and unplugged the cd burner entirely, started it up, same problem. turned it off, plugged in the HD SATA to another port (mine are grouped in two, the cd and hard drive were in the same group, so i plugged them both to the other group of sata ports - 2 per group - Gigabyte DS3 mobo, btw). started it up and it was fine.
turned the PC off, unplugged the cd burner entirely and hooked up the HD in the old sata, same "boot from cd" problem again. like the sata port is COMPLETELY fubarred. i don't know what happened. is this windows 7 fault or is my cd burner screwed up? i have it unplugged now and plan on taking it back and getting a refund tomorrow, as i think the problem is the cd burner.
any thoughts or opinions? anything else to add? i added 4gb of RAM today and everything was working fine, then coincidentally this happened. doesn't seem like the RAM has anything to do with this...what do you think happened here?

I am getting a lot of BSOD when my laptop is connected to an external monitor using a display-port cable. The system is fine when I don't use a external monitor and use just laptop screen. External monitor is a Dell 30inch. I have tried different display-port cables, different monitors, tried connecting via vga...still get BSOD, so I am thinking the problem is more on the windows 7/software side rather than hardware.
1. Uninstall AVG free edition 2011
2. Upgraded network-gigabit driver directly from intel instead of Lenovo
3a. Upgraded Nvidia drivers directly from nvidia for Quadro 1000m (ver 8.17.12.7533 - 5/20/2011) - got BSOD within 30min
3b. Downgraded Nvidia drivers to version from Lenovo (ver 8.17.12.6696 - 2/2/2011) - still get BSOD but there is more time between BSODs.
I am using a lenovo w520 laptop, win 7 SP1, x64. 8gb memory, intel 510 solid-state drive, Nvidia Quadro 1000 and Intel HD Graphics 3000, No-Anti-Virus and running zone-alarm firewall.

I recently embarked on the journey of building my first custom PC. Everything was going well, until I hit a speed bump of installing Windows 7 64 bit. So like usual I boot from the CD drive, and stick Windows 7 in. When it gets to the point where I'm going to install, it is unable to find my SATA drive to install Windows 7 on.
It then asks me to "locate drivers." So it gives me an option to browse, and when it does so I put in the disk that came with my mobo, but it's unable to find any drivers. I tried downloading drivers from my motherboard's web site, sticking them on an external HD, and locating them from there, but that still didn't work.
I checked in my BIOS, and my SATA type is under Native IDE. I tried switching it to AHCI, and my HD was no longer detected in the BIOS, switched back to Native IDE and it found it again. Also, Onchip IDE Channel is set to Disabled, and Onchip SATA Control is set to Enabled, does this matter any?
I was wondering, though, is it possible that if I set the SATA type to AHCI, move the SATA cables into ports so that the drive is recognized by my BIOS, use the AHCI drivers I downloaded, Windows 7 will detect it?

win 7 64 bit. all drivers updated with all microsoft updates applied. I have a Clear 4G modem.Strong signal. Other devices may connect and browse. The asus will browse great with good speed then suddenly not use the intenet. At first I thought it was a modem issue. Tried flushing the dns and winsock blah blah. Only a restart will resolve the issue.sometimes only for a minute sometimes I can go days with no problem. I have AVG protection and have run the malware tool. Oh, can ping websites thru cmd with zero loss

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 with a wireless connection. Although my laptop tells me I have excellent signal strength and my computer is connected, my browsers (Chrome, Firefox, IE) will not let me browse. Other programs I have, such as spotify and Itunes allow me to for a short period of time before it kicks me off.I have tried unplugging and resetting the modem, and when I flush my dns cache, the browsers work for a short period of time (max is 15 minutes) before they cannot work at all.

I opened my external drive case and took the 3.5" hard drive out so that I could connect to the computer internally with a SATA cable because I don't have an external SATA cable and internal SATA interface. I started the Windows 7 Ultimate system. The computer screen remained on "Starting Windows" forever. If my memory serves me right, I remember I did manage to access it with another computer before. That computer has been out of service. At present I can access it while the drive is in the case connected with a USB cable. The Windows explorer shows all the partitions in the drive.

I formatted and installed windows 7 64 bit in a pc which previously had windows 7 32 bit. When i booted my 1tb dynamic disk was not detected. So I went into disk management and it had listed my disk as "Foreign Disk". So i imported the foreign disk.
The drive was detected and opened. So i rebooted the pc but now the drive is still not appearing in my computer. When i go to disk management the 1tb appears but there is no drive letter assigned. When i try to assign drive letter it statest that "Specified File cannot be found"

In the past I've migrated 7 from one hdd to another by doing a backup to a usb drive, then swapping the drives and restoring to the new one. What I need to do now is a twist on that. My MB is one of the new p67s that has the faulty intel sata ports, and will eventually be recalled. The 4 6Gps sata ports on the board are not affected by the chipset problem, so I plan on just using them instead (plus I just got a 6G seagate drive that I wanted to use anyway). What I envision happening is restoring to the new drive on an entirely different sata adapter and port #, and the system not booting. I assume I could get around this by booting to a command prompt and using bcedit, but am not 100% on that.

Well, I've done a lot of research (googling) on whether or not to install Windows 7 on my solid state drive in AHCI or IDE sata mode. I wanted to confirm it with you guys to make sure I got this straight before I go ahead and install Windows 7.
If I install windows 7 on my solid state drive in sata mode ahci then later I can go to IDE if I wanted to by just switching it in bios. But if I install windows 7 under IDE mode then ill have to do a registry value change to make windows 7 work in ahci mode.
Everyone seems to have a different opinion on whether or not ahci mode is faster or worth it over IDE mode for windows 7 on a SSD. I'm not all that interested in hot swapping so thats not a interesting feature for me. I'm looking for reliability as a top priority.
