There is only the video card, driving a single LCD monitor, PSP mouse & USB keyboard, and the HDD attached to the board, no peripherals.I am installing Win 7 home Premium 64 bit. I have had Windows 7 running on this board for over a year, from an IDE 80 gig drive.I installed a new SATA 500 gb and have only that drive in the case.
I have to manually load 114R5_x64_15150_logo drivers for Sil Image SATA controller, from a USB drive. I have just spent a day learning about and using DISKPART to finally be able to start the install. The install starts OK, expands and loads files. About 2 minutes into 'expanding files' I get BSOD, STOP: 0x00000124,(0xFFFFFA800643F038,0X00000000B604A001,0X000000000000813)I have repeated the steps and reproduced the problem at about the same time into the install. I have no idea if there is a way to read/post a log. Since windows is not installed, there is not the usual dump available.
In the past I've migrated 7 from one hdd to another by doing a backup to a usb drive, then swapping the drives and restoring to the new one. What I need to do now is a twist on that. My MB is one of the new p67s that has the faulty intel sata ports, and will eventually be recalled. The 4 6Gps sata ports on the board are not affected by the chipset problem, so I plan on just using them instead (plus I just got a 6G seagate drive that I wanted to use anyway). What I envision happening is restoring to the new drive on an entirely different sata adapter and port #, and the system not booting. I assume I could get around this by booting to a command prompt and using bcedit, but am not 100% on that.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWell, I've done a lot of research (googling) on whether or not to install Windows 7 on my solid state drive in AHCI or IDE sata mode. I wanted to confirm it with you guys to make sure I got this straight before I go ahead and install Windows 7.
If I install windows 7 on my solid state drive in sata mode ahci then later I can go to IDE if I wanted to by just switching it in bios. But if I install windows 7 under IDE mode then ill have to do a registry value change to make windows 7 work in ahci mode.
Everyone seems to have a different opinion on whether or not ahci mode is faster or worth it over IDE mode for windows 7 on a SSD. I'm not all that interested in hot swapping so thats not a interesting feature for me. I'm looking for reliability as a top priority.

I have changed the BIOS and Pressed Ctrl+F to create the RAID and this has been successful. When installing Windows you obviously get to the aprt where you need to load the floppy drivers to locate the drives...
I have downloaded ever driver from the Gigabyte support drive and loaded them onto a USB, not one driver can be seen when the USB is "Browsed" too...
How important is it that the drivers are on a floppy, as I do not have a floppy drive or access to a floppy and drives. Also what driver should be downloading as I tried the 3.2.1540.17 one and that was not seen, so I just downloaded them all in an attempt for success.

Clean install of Windows reveals an error not detecting any drives, does not allow partitioning or formatting. BIOS identifies the drives.I've attempted installs of updated drivers from the motherboard's website (as well as the CD that came with the motherboard). WD claims not to have any drivers on their website. Still nothing.
i installed a sata controller because the sata controller on the motherboard went out. I can easily install ubuntu but when i try installing win 7 it asks for a cdrom driver, when i try booting from usb it asks for hdd driver.

I am (currently) running Windows 7 64 ULT on my home PC. I purchased an Intel X25M 80GB SATA drive and connected it in order to benefit from the speed. The issue is that setup hangs during the "expanding files" on this drive. Looking back I have *never* been able to install windows (XP Vista or 7) on a SATA drive on my mobo.
In order to avoid confusions I did the following.Removed the 2x400GB striped drives. Removed the old PATA-IDE drive, therefore only drives available were the Optiarc DVD and the new Intel SSD.

I think I have RAID on in the BIOS configuration but I don't really want to turn it off because in that way my old WinXP would die. I just wanted to give Windows 7 a try before I completely change to it. Could anyone help me? I could provide more information about the desktop if necessary.

and regarding to the manufacturer it should be Windows 7 hardware ready.
But I can't install Windows 7 pro 64 bit on my new system. The Windows 7 installation application can't see my harddrives and want a driver to them. I assume that should be a driver for the SATA controller on the motherboard. I've tryed to use the drivers on the motherboard cd-rom and tryed to use the drivers froms asrock homepage, but Windows 7 wont accept them.
I have contacted AsRock about this issue, but I'm wating for an answer and hoped that you guys might has seen this problem before, and will answer quicker than AsRock Support
I should say that I cant install Windows Vista Business 64bit without any problems at all.
The mobo's kinda old, and not the greatest; the builtin SATA only works for Raid, so I put in a PCI sata card with the SIL3114 chipset. The computer now sees the 64GB SSD Patriot HD I'm trying to use for her C drive (The SSD is a leftover from a different project... I thought it'd lend some additional performance to help make up for the 1.2 ghz cpu). When I get into Windows setup, though, Windows 7 does not recognize the drive, and none of the drivers that came with the PCI card seem to work. I suppose I should have double checked before buying the SATA PCI card to find one that has native Windows 7 drivers, but I thought the stone age days of needing SATA drivers were over, guess I was wrong!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to install a Windows 7 OEM x64 onto an older machine I have. MB is a Foxconn NF4UK8AA-8EKRS, CPU is AMD Athlon 64 x2, 4200+ 2.25 GHz, RAM 1GB. I installed a new OEM 500GB SATA hard drive unformatted.
Current OS is Windows XP Home SP2, I deleted SP3 since it was giving me some problems with auto login.
My DVD drive will not read the Windows 7 installation disk, similar to another post the drive just flashes, never spools up. It will read other CDs and DVDs.
I initialized the hard drive but have not partitioned or formatted the new SATA hard drive which is where I want to install the new OS. While the BIOS recognizes the drive, its not listed on Computer tree.
I have copied the Windows 7 OEM DVD contents onto a Folder that I created on a Toshiba External USB drive. Only had a 2GB USB Flash Drive so thought I would use the external drive and select the setup.exe in the Windows 7 files I copied into a folder without formatting a complete 250GB ext USB drive.
Question, can I partition and format the new SATA drive using the Windows XP Home Edition with an NTSF format and will this be recognized by Windows 7?
Question, can I install Windows 7 from the Toshiba Ext USB drive's folder onto the newly formatted SATA drive? Or does Windows 7 require a different formatting setup?
The BIOS and MB won't recognize a DVD drive it only allows a boot from CD. I removed the CD and DVD master/slave parallel cable and only installed the DVD as the master, but Windows 7 DVD just blinks and never spins the drive.
If I can get the new OS installed I'll remove my two older 40GB PATA hard drives and add more RAM. This machine is for my wife's use since it was in the garage gathering dust. Thought I would revive it and set up a wireless home group between my machine and her's. I added an all in one printer/copier/scanner in addition to the HP Photosmart D7460 I have so we can share files, printers and Internet connection.

Very little, all the parts were shipped here about four days ago and I spent a couple of hours putting them together. I ran into a hiccup when Windows 7 Home Premium would not get past the extracting phase of the installation, kicking up the error in this thread. I began the first install on a 20GB partition, when that failed I tried just installing it on a single partition. When that failed I tried removing all the partitions and just installing on the unformatted drive, in it's entirety (seemed weird but others said they had luck with this).Testing Methodology:
At the end of each attempted solution I tried to install Windows again.My keyboard is a USB keyboard. All of my boot testing is done with a bootable USB that I have running MS-DOS 6.22. What I Have Tried:Solution 1: First I went into the bios and changed the SATA controller from AHCI to Raid SATA Result = FAILEDSolution 2: I tried burning OEM Windows disk from Microsoft to an iso at the lowest speed possible for my DVD burner (4x).Result = FAILEDSolution 3: At this point I had created and deleted so many partitions I was concerned it may be having an effect on the install. So I went to Samsung's website and grabbed their HDD utility tool. I figured let's kill two birds with one stone and test the drive while also restoring it to it's original state. So I did a low level format and then ran the HDD diagnostic. All came back with no errors. Result = FAILED
On to memory...Solution 4: I downloaded Microsoft's Memory Diagnostic Tool and let it run overnight. It returned no errors. So I decided to use MemTest86 4.1 and let it run for 10 passes, I did find errors then. As of now I am running each module of memory one by one to determine if it is a problem with them or the sockets on the motherboard. So far I have been unable to reproduce the errors I got when both modules were running together. As a precaution I double checked the motherboards specifications on the socket order for memory, all is to specs. Result = [PENDING]What's Next:After my current memory test ends, I plan on checking my BIOS to see if the correct memory speeds were detected in the auto detection. If at that point I'm still unable to reproduce the memory errors, I'll put both memory modules back into the system and run the testing again to see if I can reproduce the errors I got the first time.

i tried to install windows 7 RC on the below setup (all new), but failed
1. SATA harddisk, WD Cavier 1T
2. mobo, Gigebyte GA-GM-785-S2H
3. SATA optical drive. LG-GGC...
the last two components work fine if i replace the SATA HD to a IDE HD, meaning the existing system (xp) started normally. no windows 7 installation
but, when i try the 3 componenets togehter to install windows 7 (the SATA HD was not even formated). the scenarios were:
1. if i configured the cmos to see the SATA HD as AHIC mode, the system would freeze at "verifying DMI pool", not even bothering to start the windows 7 installation disk (even i defined only one start-up device, my optical sata).
2, if i configured the cmos to see the SATA HD as Native IDE mode, the system would go to the optical sata and found windows 7. THE PROBLEM came during "windows is loading files". after like half min, the error message popped out, saying an I/O error occured, either i had a external usb drive corrupted or a storage fault.
The problem came out when i had no usb devices attached at all. then i also tried to copy SATA mobo driver to a usb stick and connected to the system. but still the same problem.
i also tried clear cmos, load default profie,
My questions:
1, how to solve this....
2, should i set native IDE mode before installing windows 7(also other windows systems?)
3, what is at least the correct way to install this.
4, is this a windows 7 installation issue or what?
Yesterday I had a PC technician around to see why my PC was not booting-up properly and also to change my SSD to a larger SSD. As I am visually challenged I cannot do hardware upgrades etc, so I got a Techie guy in. We used Zinstall HDD by-the-way and I would highly recommend this application for such a job plus, it is extremely fast.Anyway, while he was diagnosing my boot-up issue he discovered I had a malfunctioning network card; while removing this, he noticed all the SATA settings were set to SATA 2.When he reset these to SATA 3, the PC would not start-up! When he set them again to SATA 2 there was no problem and it worked fine?
View 9 Replies View Relatedi purchased a Silicon SiI3512 SATA Raid Controller purely to have 2 extra SATA ports which I am using to connect to my case's external drive bays. I have flashed the bios of the controller and updated the driver to put it in "Base" mode so it is not using RAID. I did extensive research on this and it appears that I have this part right. For now, I am trying to connect a WD1600BEVT 2.5" SATA-II hard drive to one of these ports and am having some difficulty. I can see the drive, but when I try to format the drive in Windows, or a command prompt (using the windows recovery DVD) it hangs. I am wondering if this is a compatibility issue with a SATA-II drive on a SATA-I controller, however, most of the forums I have read state that if there is a compatibility issue, the controller won't even recognize the drive. I searched around to see if there was a way to force the HDD to SATA(150), but the jumpers on this drive are for SSC and RPS. Is there a way to fix this or do I need a drive that is capable of forcing SATA-I speeds? Perhaps even a controller capable of at least SATA-II since that is the minimum of all new HDDs?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have tried numerous times on my PC to install Windows 7 onto my Sata Drive to no avail. Yet as soon as I plug in my IDE HD it installs fine.I have unplugged all external peripherals USB and internal Card Reader. Set my Bios ok as it sees both the Hard Drive and DVD fine (Both in the bios and during selection of hard drive during windows 7 installation). Yet when I come to install it, it craps out at a random percentage saying cannot read from source or worse yet it crawls so slow through the percentages (I really don't think Windows 7 should take 6 hours to get to 15%!!) Yet both the hard drive and dvd are fine and the disc works great on my other PC without the sata drive in.
My motherboard is a Biostar G31-M7 TE with latest bios now what is odd is that I recently updated the BIOS to the latest one so does my problem come from here or was it always going to be a problem on this board? Also when I do have Windows 7 installed on the IDE drive when I plug in ther sata drive inside the whole system goes belly up (from freezes when transferring large files to just not seeing the drive)
My MB supports only SATA 2 but in my city, the HDD SATA 3 is more cheap than SATA 2. If I buy the HDD SATA 3 it will work with my MB SATA 2 controller?

I was looking at the Corsair Force 3 because of the read/write speeds. Upon doing more digging though it looks like id be better off running a drive on the SATA 2 ports.

It is currently loaded on the 200gb Primary IDE and the other 2 are for backup and saving data. Would I be better off installing Windows 7 on the SATA drive and using both IDE drives for backup and saving data? If so is the easiest way to just disconnect the IDE drives until Windows 7 is installed then format the original OS drive to use for backup?

Until here no problem, the OS started perfectly, went online and activated my copy of Windows 7. Then I shut down and connected my second HD, a small 320 GB Scorpio where I save all my personal files. Reboot and Windows 7 after loading, freezes. Had to reset and boot in save mode but no information about the problem. devices are OK, the disk is seen from the system with its correct letter but when I boot normally it still freezes the OS. As soon as I disconnect the SATA HD's cable, Windows 7 boot perfectly. On UEFI Bios all the 6 SATA channels are enabled, I also tried to change connectors but the problem is still there.
