I successfully transferred my WIN 7 and Programs (they are on an OCZ SATA SSD) to a new motherboard and CPU. Until here no problem, the OS started perfectly, went online and activated my copy of Windows 7. Then I shut down and connected my second HD, a small 320 GB Scorpio where I save all my personal files. Reboot and Windows 7 after loading, freezes. Had to reset and boot in save mode but no information about the problem. devices are OK, the disk is seen from the system with its correct letter but when I boot normally it still freezes the OS. As soon as I disconnect the SATA HD's cable, Windows 7 boot perfectly. On UEFI Bios all the 6 SATA channels are enabled, I also tried to change connectors but the problem is still there. If additional details are needed
Very little, all the parts were shipped here about four days ago and I spent a couple of hours putting them together. I ran into a hiccup when Windows 7 Home Premium would not get past the extracting phase of the installation, kicking up the error in this thread. I began the first install on a 20GB partition, when that failed I tried just installing it on a single partition. When that failed I tried removing all the partitions and just installing on the unformatted drive, in it's entirety (seemed weird but others said they had luck with this).Testing Methodology:
At the end of each attempted solution I tried to install Windows again. My keyboard is a USB keyboard. All of my boot testing is done with a bootable USB that I have running MS-DOS 6.22. What I Have Tried:Solution 1: First I went into the bios and changed the SATA controller from AHCI to Raid SATA Result = FAILEDSolution 2: I tried burning OEM Windows disk from Microsoft to an iso at the lowest speed possible for my DVD burner (4x).Result = FAILEDSolution 3: At this point I had created and deleted so many partitions I was concerned it may be having an effect on the install. So I went to Samsung's website and grabbed their HDD utility tool. I figured let's kill two birds with one stone and test the drive while also restoring it to it's original state. So I did a low level format and then ran the HDD diagnostic. All came back with no errors. Result = FAILED
On to memory...Solution 4: I downloaded Microsoft's Memory Diagnostic Tool and let it run overnight. It returned no errors. So I decided to use MemTest86 4.1 and let it run for 10 passes, I did find errors then. As of now I am running each module of memory one by one to determine if it is a problem with them or the sockets on the motherboard. So far I have been unable to reproduce the errors I got when both modules were running together. As a precaution I double checked the motherboards specifications on the socket order for memory, all is to specs. Result = [PENDING]What's Next:After my current memory test ends, I plan on checking my BIOS to see if the correct memory speeds were detected in the auto detection. If at that point I'm still unable to reproduce the memory errors, I'll put both memory modules back into the system and run the testing again to see if I can reproduce the errors I got the first time.
Yesterday I had a PC technician around to see why my PC was not booting-up properly and also to change my SSD to a larger SSD. As I am visually challenged I cannot do hardware upgrades etc, so I got a Techie guy in. We used Zinstall HDD by-the-way and I would highly recommend this application for such a job plus, it is extremely fast.Anyway, while he was diagnosing my boot-up issue he discovered I had a malfunctioning network card; while removing this, he noticed all the SATA settings were set to SATA 2.When he reset these to SATA 3, the PC would not start-up! When he set them again to SATA 2 there was no problem and it worked fine?
i purchased a Silicon SiI3512 SATA Raid Controller purely to have 2 extra SATA ports which I am using to connect to my case's external drive bays. I have flashed the bios of the controller and updated the driver to put it in "Base" mode so it is not using RAID. I did extensive research on this and it appears that I have this part right. For now, I am trying to connect a WD1600BEVT 2.5" SATA-II hard drive to one of these ports and am having some difficulty. I can see the drive, but when I try to format the drive in Windows, or a command prompt (using the windows recovery DVD) it hangs. I am wondering if this is a compatibility issue with a SATA-II drive on a SATA-I controller, however, most of the forums I have read state that if there is a compatibility issue, the controller won't even recognize the drive. I searched around to see if there was a way to force the HDD to SATA(150), but the jumpers on this drive are for SSC and RPS. Is there a way to fix this or do I need a drive that is capable of forcing SATA-I speeds? Perhaps even a controller capable of at least SATA-II since that is the minimum of all new HDDs?
My MB supports only SATA 2 but in my city, the HDD SATA 3 is more cheap than SATA 2. If I buy the HDD SATA 3 it will work with my MB SATA 2 controller?
i'm looking to upgrade from a HDD to SSD. I've been reading online about my board and apparently the marvell 9128 controller sucks speed wise. I was looking at the Corsair Force 3 because of the read/write speeds. Upon doing more digging though it looks like id be better off running a drive on the SATA 2 ports.
The hard drive in my son's laptop has died, it's a SATA 1 (1.5Gb/s) drive. Can I upgrade it to a SATA 2 (3.0 Gb/s) hard disk?? It's in a Toshiba laptop.
I was wondering If I have one sata 1 and an new sata 2(or 3) on my PC installed on my PC will cause problems in transfer speeds? My Blue-ray is sata 1 also.Does this mean that all disks will work as sata 1?
I need to reinstall my Windows 7 from cracked to legal. My PC has 3 HD in it. 200 GB SATA, 200 GB Primary IDE and 160 GB Secondary IDE. It is currently loaded on the 200gb Primary IDE and the other 2 are for backup and saving data. Would I be better off installing Windows 7 on the SATA drive and using both IDE drives for backup and saving data? If so is the easiest way to just disconnect the IDE drives until Windows 7 is installed then format the original OS drive to use for backup?
2 hours ago,i wanted to install windows7 on my sata disk ,cause i destroyed my old partition with ubuntu 10.10. So i started to install Windows 7 .However it couldnt be normal. Then i get an error: . A partition on the disk''0''could not be formatted .The error occurred while preparing the partition selected for installation .Fault code: 0x80070057
I've dell Inspiron N4050. By default it was having Ubuntu but I installed Windows 7 professional x64. I perform some heavy tasks on my laptop but I am not satisfied with its performance (basically I am a desktop user). By default its SATA operation mode is AHCI. Sometimes its HDD gets too much busy and its response time gets worse.
I have an Asus P8z77-v LK mobo using a OCZ vertex 4 128gb SSD. Everything worked fine until today when i try to start my computer it gets stuck on the starting windows screen. so i make sure everything is plugged in and restart and go in to the bios and my SSD and Disk drive arent being recognized. so i mess with it a bit and try using my ssd on sata II and it gets recognized and boots instantly. i did a CMOS reset and now they're being recognized using sata III again but it still wont go past the starting windows screen, the screen doesnt freeze or anything. it just doesnt continue to boot up
I am trying to install Windows 7 on a system I just built and it tells me that it cannot be installed to my hard drive because it is "of the GPT partition style" and that "the partition is of an unrecognized type". What does this mean and how can I resolve it?The motherboard is intel DH55TC and the hard drive is Western Digital SATA 500GB.
I have built a new system with a 60GB SSD to install the OS on and a 2TB hard drive for everything else. The 2TB drive can be seen in the BIOS but cant be accessed from windows.
I just got my new Vantec IDE/SATA to 2.0 USB Adapter installed. I use it on my laptop to give me extra storage space.. or plan to.. this drive already has a good copy of Win 7 installed and i'd like to boot into it from the USB adapter so it will be easier for me to find out what i need to back up.
I did try to boot from USB and windows does start to load then crashes.. I don't know if it's due to the Vantec unit or if I just need to repair the MBR on the drive. The drive has been sitting in a safe place for about 8 months not being used.
I installed an old 160GB Seagate Barracuda into my Win7Pro64 machine for some extra storage room. At first it worked fine. I cleaned it out and did a quick format in Windows.
Now Windows does recognize it at all. I see it in the BIOS but it won't show up in Windows.
As I look around to gather drivers for a new install of Win 7 Pro from XP Pro, I am having a problem, the inf file. Does Win 7 have the inf file for GA-965P/DS3? I am also not sure about the SATA driver for the Gigabyte controller, since this is the one my sys HD is connected to; the ones I have on the disk that came with the mobo...earlier than Windows 7.
I have a Biostar mainboard with Sata Raid 0 enabled. I am trying to install win 7 sp1 but the install process asks for a driver. I thought the drivers are on the win 7 disk itself ? I do not have a floppy disc.
I really want to go back to a dual install (Windows 7-64 Pro and Windows XP) but I want to add XP to Windows 7 which is already loaded. I know how to load Sata drivers when loading XP first (have drivers on CD) but after looking at the tutorial it mentions adding Sata drivers to XP using 3.5 disk. I do not have 3.5 drive. HP Pavilion a6130n/3 internal 1TB drives. XP and 7 will be on separate hard drives.
configure a 320 gig Western digital SATA on a Win 7 Ultimate 32 bit as an Data Drive.I took out the 40 gig IDE that was on the Data end,and replaced it so my wife would have more,Gig space to download more movies and, handle extra information. I went to the BIOS and checked to see if it was activated,I went to the Device Manager to see if the PC was reading it and, it is it says that it'a working properly but the,My Computer wont read it,I'd like to find out how to configure, this device so that you can use it,I have a IDE on my main drive and, wanted to use a SATA on the data drive, since it's more reliable. And on the XP theres a area to go to reformat the disk, on Win 7 I know theres an area you can go to to reformat your hard drive so the computer will read it,when you go to my computer ,will I have to reformat the Sata to NTFS like the rest of the drive's on the PC?
I have a custom built HTPC with a Seagate SATA drive. Media Center halted, and Win7 would not reboot. When I attempt to reinstall Win7 it cannot find the drive (C) - "No drive were found. Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation."
My research tells me SATA drives don't have drivers. I've changed BIOS SATA drivers from "Enhanced" to "Compatible" with no effect. Don't know what to try next.
I'm trying to do a fresh install of windows 7 and it wont recognize my hard drives. I've done some research and determined i need the correct drivers, but i don't know which ones. I'm trying to install them on 3 WD3000HLFS in RAID 0. The HDD are plugged into SATA 6 ports( only 2 SATA 3 ports on the mobo).
I just installed windows 7 on my 64gb SSD sata3 hard drive i did a clean install. Now my 1TB Hard doesnt show up in windows. It shows it in the bois and in the device manager but thats it....
I installed windows 7 while my satas were set to ide mode in the bios. My old HP computer had them set to raid. I have run into this odd issue where I installed windows in ide mode on my HDD but now windows wont show my SSD(which i got for games) when I right click the C drive it shows the SSD as being part of the HDD. Even in my Bios it shows my main drive as my OCZ SSD. Anyways would switching to raid mode and then doing a windows repair fix anything? Or should i just switch it to raid mode unhook the SSD and then re install windows on my HDD(Which I have no problem doing but would like to avoid if possible)
i have an alienware d900 i bought a 1TB samsung sata HDD but it does not detect the HDD with any of the windows operating system. it does not have driver for window 7 but it come with drivers for window xp and 2000 but when i try to install window xp i press f6 to load third party drivers then when is loading it gives me the option then i chose xp then it loads but it still dose not detect the hard drive.
I bought a usb 2.0 to sata / ide so I could connect my old external hard drive from my old Windows XP computer to my windows 7 laptop. The USB 2.0 only wotls with Win 98, XP, ME and 2000. I need some thing that I can use to connect it to my Win 7 notebook.
When I open the PC, my hardrive and DVD rom was detected in bios but when the operating system started it shows the windows logo then after a second it shows a message that "the driver not found. Im confuse because i have only one hardrive which is the win7 installed on it. How can possibly that the PC did not find this driver but it shows the logo of win7?
