Windows 7 Not Recognizing 2TB SATA Drive
Aug 10, 2012I have built a new system with a 60GB SSD to install the OS on and a 2TB hard drive for everything else. The 2TB drive can be seen in the BIOS but cant be accessed from windows.

Win 7 Not Recognizing SATA Drive
Jan 1, 2010Before I made the commitment to use Windows 7 as my primary OS, I figured I'd experiment in a dual boot environment. My current setup is Windows XP (x32) installed on a 500GB SATA drive. This drive has a partition for the OS and a separate partition for all of my files and data. To install Windows 7 I removed my SATA drive and (successfully) installed Windows 7 (64-bit) onto an 80GB IDE drive (controller 0, disk 0).
After the installation I shut down my system, reconnected my SATA drive, changed the BIOS boot order to look at my IDE and Windows 7 booted without a hitch. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-K8U-939
Now, with Windows 7 running and my SATA drive connected, Windows 7 does *not* recognize the drive. It is completely missing from the disk manager. I loaded the drivers for my motherboard ((however since the MoBo is a couple years old, it doesn't have Vista or Windows 7 drivers)), it loaded quasi-successfully but spat out some error about it not being totally successful. Now, after I log into Windows 7 I receive an error that goes like,
Code: Initial ALiRAID error!!Please Check:
1) ALiRAID driver is installed
2) ALiRAID controller is connected to disk drive(s)
When I reboot my computer and switch the boot order in the BIOS to boot from my IDE drive, my system will boot into Windows XP without any problem at all. I've also switched the BIOS setting from "RAID" to "IDE" for the SATA drive and that appears to have done nothing towards Windows 7 being able to access it.
There's gotta be some way to get Windows 7 to see my SATA drive, doesn't there?

May 7, 2011i purchased a Silicon SiI3512 SATA Raid Controller purely to have 2 extra SATA ports which I am using to connect to my case's external drive bays. I have flashed the bios of the controller and updated the driver to put it in "Base" mode so it is not using RAID. I did extensive research on this and it appears that I have this part right. For now, I am trying to connect a WD1600BEVT 2.5" SATA-II hard drive to one of these ports and am having some difficulty. I can see the drive, but when I try to format the drive in Windows, or a command prompt (using the windows recovery DVD) it hangs. I am wondering if this is a compatibility issue with a SATA-II drive on a SATA-I controller, however, most of the forums I have read state that if there is a compatibility issue, the controller won't even recognize the drive. I searched around to see if there was a way to force the HDD to SATA(150), but the jumpers on this drive are for SSC and RPS. Is there a way to fix this or do I need a drive that is capable of forcing SATA-I speeds? Perhaps even a controller capable of at least SATA-II since that is the minimum of all new HDDs?

Jun 16, 2012I have an Alienware M14x R1 with a SSD - Crucial M4 in the main spot and the stock HD in the optical drive. I have never had any issues with any of this stuff before this clean install - and I have done clean installs previously. I also used Parted Magic to Secure Erase my SSD and HD before install.I am experiencing some pretty frustrating problems:
1. I have NO INTERNET CONNECTION (everyone keeps telling me to install drivers...how can I do this without internet connection??)
2. Windows is not recognizing my second hard drive in the optical drive even though it did when I was installing and showed it at the section where you can add new partitions etc
3. My display adpater is not working as I have a 1600x900 screen and I can only go up to 1024x768...

Oct 15, 2011i have formatted my hard drive after it was full of bugs/virus. now when i try and boot my laptop Aspire 5532, windows 7 x64 premium, it states on start up with hdd in the machine please insert windows disk to recover system. how ever when i do this with my hdd in my machine windows does not boot from dvd/cd, but when i remove my hard drive windows 7 starts the install process, which is good, untill i have to select drive to install windows to (now i insert hdd and refresh) which populates and allows me to select drive. but then along the bottom loine states "setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. see setup llog files for more info". Also when i click show details staes "windows cannot be installed to the disk, This Computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disl's controller is enabled in the computer bios menu, this is really doing my head in im not by anymeans that great with this stuff and any help would be good HDD is WD1600bevt-22zct0 (scorpio blue)

Jul 13, 2012I have windows 7 64 bit and I'm trying to copy data from my old desktop which won't boot up anymore to my laptop. It is a 3.5 inch sata hard drive which I connected to a usb external hard drive dock. But when I plug it in windows just doesn't recognize it and it doesn't appear in windows explorer. When I go into disk management it recognizes it but says it is not initialized and asks me if I want to initialize it. I'm reluctant to do this as I'm not sure if it will wipe the drive. Any ideas on how I can view my files?
It is a 300GB drive split into 3 NTFS partitions which has both windows xp and windows 7 installed on it.
Install Windows 7 With Sata Hard Drive And IDE DVD ROM Drive
Oct 8, 2010I have tried numerous times on my PC to install Windows 7 onto my Sata Drive to no avail. Yet as soon as I plug in my IDE HD it installs fine.I have unplugged all external peripherals USB and internal Card Reader. Set my Bios ok as it sees both the Hard Drive and DVD fine (Both in the bios and during selection of hard drive during windows 7 installation). Yet when I come to install it, it craps out at a random percentage saying cannot read from source or worse yet it crawls so slow through the percentages (I really don't think Windows 7 should take 6 hours to get to 15%!!) Yet both the hard drive and dvd are fine and the disc works great on my other PC without the sata drive in.
My motherboard is a Biostar G31-M7 TE with latest bios now what is odd is that I recently updated the BIOS to the latest one so does my problem come from here or was it always going to be a problem on this board? Also when I do have Windows 7 installed on the IDE drive when I plug in ther sata drive inside the whole system goes belly up (from freezes when transferring large files to just not seeing the drive)

Jan 22, 2013I need to reinstall my Windows 7 from cracked to legal. My PC has 3 HD in it. 200 GB SATA, 200 GB Primary IDE and 160 GB Secondary IDE. It is currently loaded on the 200gb Primary IDE and the other 2 are for backup and saving data. Would I be better off installing Windows 7 on the SATA drive and using both IDE drives for backup and saving data? If so is the easiest way to just disconnect the IDE drives until Windows 7 is installed then format the original OS drive to use for backup?

DVD-RW Drive Not Recognizing .exe Files
Jun 25, 2011I have a Lite-On LightScribe 24X SATA DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Drive IHAS424-98 that I recently installed on a brand new computer that I built myself. I am running win 7 64 bit. I have been having problems with auto play and I thought it might have been the drive so I ordered another drive and its doing it with that one too.
What is happening is when I insert a software CD or DVD windows typically would autoplay the setup.exe or whatever the .exe file is (depending on your autoplay settings). Well, for some reason my computer is not even seeing those files. If I browse the DVD I can open the file that way but for some reason autoplay cannot see the setup.exe file to auto start it. My Autoplay settings are all on default except the software one which is set to install. For some reason it seems that every DVD or CD I enter is recognized as a mixed content cd and the default action when double clicking the drive icon in my computer is to launch the folder with all the files in it. Also, typically if its a software cd or dvd the drive icon changes to the exe file's icon. Mine doesn't and remains the same. The name changes from DVD RW Drive (F: ) to DVD RW Drive (f: ) OFFICE12......(this is office 2007 CD). I searched google and everywhere for any similar problems but could not find any solutions. I have tried everything. And so everyone knows the CDs/DVDs I run all have the autorun.inf file
PC Not Recognizing External Drive?
Jul 15, 2011i have a 1Tb external Drive (USB) and its never had any problems until now. I just recently reinstalled windows and when I try plugging in my external drive and then powering it on. My PC doesn't recognize it. I know that it knows its plugged in because it is showing up in Device manager and it is showing up as the "Safely remove usb" in the task bar.

Dec 31, 2011I was installing World of warcraft (dvd-rom disks) and fell asleep while the 1st disk was installing. I woke up 2 hours later and had a prompt to insert disk 2. I inserted disk 2 and it wouldnt even recognize the disc was present and from then on the drive wont detect any dvd but it rips and plays music cd's with no problem?

My research tells me SATA drives don't have drivers. I've changed BIOS SATA drivers from "Enhanced" to "Compatible" with no effect.
Don't know what to try next.

Jun 28, 2011I've recently purchased two 30GB SSDs which I have set up in a RAID 0 array and I have installed Windows onto these drives. I have a second, 2TB Seagate Barracuda Green HDD that I have used to put my user profiles and additional programs/games on as it wouldn't fit on the SSD.Everything was fine for a few days after installation. Then this morning I rebooted the computer and it just stalled on the flashing cursor (underscore) in the top left corner of the screen. I did the basic fixes (Windows repair, checking RAM) and nothing worked.Then I thought that I should try disconnecting all but the SSD with the OS on it. SUCCESS! It booted to Windows but couldn't find any programs/user data so it created a new "profile". I shutdown the computer and tried reconnecting just the data hard drive.I have two additional hard drives (used for backups) that don't affect anything at all when I plug them in.Does anybody know what could be the problem? Jun 24, 2010I recently bought a mobo and gfx card from a friend therefore decided to treat myself and bought a 1TB Hitachi SATA HDD.
As i had a dodgy DVD RW before i installed Windows 7 from my current PATA HD as a custom Installation onto the new Drive after assigning it in Disk manager, formatted and began installation.
All installed fine booted up and asked me which windows to use. selected the new OS and all good, but then, I removed the old PATA drive assuming there would be a Boot block on the new drive allowing boot up with the fresh windows installation and all i got was No boot disc found, please.. bla de bla... so i checked all BIOS settings to make sure all boot sequences were in the right order.. which they were..
I then resorted to put the old PATA HD back in and as soon as i hit the power button there was a spark from the PATA HD i'd just wired back up... Nothing for it to short on as it was laying flat on top of my case. now this wont boot either and im just getting the same message as before whatever i do.
I thought maybe this had blown the IDE slots on the motherboard, so i put my old mobo in and all components, i now get the selection for Windows 7 / Windows 7 (PATA) or Older version of windows. but now when i try and boot the fresh installation of Windows 7 on the SATA drive, it gets to the logo startup screen and restarts.

I have a fresh install of Windows 7 HOMEPREMIUM 64 bit that was done with drive "D" in one of the hotswap bays. All my tweaks, and settings changes are done and Windows operates with no problems. Now I wan't to move the drive to an internal bay. The set up and install was done using sata 4 on the motherboard but due to cable routing I need to use sata 2 for the move.
After the physical move and cable change Windows sees the Raptor as drive "E" not "D", it can't access the user profile and loads a default profile instead. This default profile won't allow access to disk management so I can change the drive letter. I have tried using Diskpart to reassign the drive letters but when I boot into Windows it changes it back to "E" again (must be due to the sata port 2 being assign "E" in an earlier configuration?). I tried using Windows repair but it changes the boot sector to"C", the "C" drive to "D" and the Raptor to "E", had to change the cables to the original locations and do a system restore to fix that one.
