I have a splitter that I use to split laptop display to a computer monitor and a TV. Problem is that both the monitor and the TV goes to sleep after about 3 hours displaying. The splitters input connection is from a docking station from where I dock my dell laptop. I only get the display back on the two screens by powering of the splitter for a few seconds then powering it on again.

As i alreadfy had a computer i thought i would start using a dual monitor set up in which i can have two screens doing different things, for instance one monitor plays a film while the other is on facebook. how ever when i received the computer it only had one AV monitor port on it. This meant i couldnt do a dual set up for even use the LCD monitor to its potential. So i bought a AV splitter cable to plug both my monitors into one port. but this just left me with two monitors doing the same thing and having to use the bad resolution from the old monitor on both monitors.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy ASUS P8Z68-Vpro Windows 7(64) system will go to sleep manually (from the shutdown menu). I have power management set to turn off the monitor and go to sleep after one minute. After a minute the monitor turns off, but the computer fan keeps on going. (What used to happen is the computer would go to sleep, the fan would turn off, but then a second or two later the computer would wake up by itself. It's possible this has changed because I'm playing with various settings). In any event, I have never gotten it to go to sleep on its own and stay there.
Even when I tell it to go to sleep manually on rare occasions it has also woken up unprovoked. On the local area connection (Intel 82579) I've turned off all wake up things (Wake on lan, wake on link, etc.) I've allowed windows to sleep even when sharing multimedia. I've turned off wake on USB. The keyboard and mouse are now the only devices in the device manager that claim to have the ability to wake the computer up. I suspect the problem may be the D-Link DWA-556 wireless card (PCI slot), although it doesn't report that it has the ability to wake up the computer.
But a few times when I have gotten the computer to go to sleep I was able to wake it up merely by screwing the antenna into the connector on the back. Even though the wireless connection had been disabled from the network and sharing control panel. Does this indicate that my wireless card is defective, or is there some setting on it that I don't know about. Are there any other reasons the computer may not go to sleep or immediately wake up? (I have looked in the event viewer and haven't seen anything suspicious.) Does windows have a log somewhere that could tell me what is waking the computer up (or keeping it from sleeping.)
So for some reason when my monitor sleeps it shuts my internet off.

Everything looks good, but at work I am connected to a matrox triple-head-to-go device which is connected to (3) 22' monitors (3840x1280 resolution). Now when I connected it, ran the nvidia app, it found it and worked great.
Problem is I get home, no external connected, so running off the laptop with the basic resolution, I am trying to start apps (firefox, stickies, etc.) and I guess they were in other spots at work as I don't see them.
I forced a close on FF, then re-started, rt clicking and maximizing which worked, but then other apps like stickies don't have that option. An alt-tab shows it running in the lower right (see screenshot), but there is absolutely no way of getting to the app! I did close the app completely and restarted, but it does restart in a location not on the screen.
I am getting a lot of BSOD when my laptop is connected to an external monitor using a display-port cable.The system is fine when I don't use a external monitor and use just laptop screen. External monitor is a Dell 30inch. I have tried different display-port cables, different monitors, tried connecting via vga...still get BSOD, so I am thinking the problem is more on the windows 7/software side rather than hardware.

2. Upgraded network-gigabit driver directly from intel instead of Lenovo
3a. Upgraded Nvidia drivers directly from nvidia for Quadro 1000m (ver 8.17.12.7533 - 5/20/2011) - got BSOD within 30min
3b. Downgraded Nvidia drivers to version from Lenovo (ver 8.17.12.6696 - 2/2/2011) - still get BSOD but there is more time between BSODs.
I am using a lenovo w520 laptop, win 7 SP1, x64. 8gb memory, intel 510 solid-state drive, Nvidia Quadro 1000 and Intel HD Graphics 3000, No-Anti-Virus and running zone-alarm firewall.
While my pc is on, I plug in the usb cable of my canon pixma MP276 printer. When the usb cable contact to the usb port, the lcd monitor goes into power saving mode/sleep mode (black) immediately and never turns on again no matter what I do (clicking on mouse, pressing keys on keyboard)I then need to restart the pc and everything will be normal.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently for the first time went over my monthly data cap for broadband and looking it to it a bit more it looks like a lot of the programs my kids are using are hogging the bandwidth. I don't really want to pay for more bandwidth (as I already pay way above average as I live in a small rural village) but I don't want to restrict too much what my kids are doing. The solution to me seems to be to see if I can monitor and if possible control to some extent the data on each of the IP connected to the router if that is at all possible. I have looked at my router settings and unfortunately they do not permit anything more than traffic monitoring and there are no custom firmwares to allows additional features of any use. Is there any software that I could use to do this?

We just bought some new Lenovo Edge laptops for work and also bought USB 2.0 Port Replicators with Digital Video Part number: 0A33942 to use with them. Our other setup was a Lenovo L512 with a Mini dock which the L512 has been discontinued. My question is can I use a DVI-to-dual DVI or VGA to display the video to two 22" monitors? How will windows recognize the monitors and what about performance? Some people here like the screen so small that I can barely read it and others like it large enough to read it from 10 feet away. The only thing that they are used for is Internet browsing and document viewing. Nothing graphic intensive.

I tried google'ing for this but I'm not sure how to word it, This is what happens: I could be doing whatever on my computer, then once in a while, randomly shuts itself off; but not completely. My monitor goes into DVI power saving mode (like when the computer sleeps), keyboard / mouse shut off, my external soundcard is un-synced, but the fans are all running. It restarted itself the first time after about 10 minutes, but every time after that I was too impatient to wait.

I love everything about it except one major thing that seems to be a common problem, from the research I've done.Whenever the computer sleeps or goes in to standby mode, about 80% of the time when I come out of it, it loses the network connection. I will get one of two messages: "Local area connection doesn't have a valid IP address" or "Local area conncetion doesn't have a valid IP configuration." (It's usually the first message).I've Googled this several times and I've tried the fixes. I've tried searching for Bonjour (according to my Services list, it's disabled). I've tried setting the IPv6 off in the TCP/IP settings. I've tried changing the Wireless Adapter Setting's Power Save Mode to Maximum Performance. The message presented is a DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FALIURE. Interestingly, until the crash my USB ports also stop working completely.I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium x64, which is NOT the original install, but a new one made from a retail CD. Well essentially my system will reboot anytime it sits for an extended period of time (about 15 to 20 Minutes). My computer will go into standby mode. I do have it set for my computer to never sleep but only my screens. I have followed the BSOD instructions and do and those to attach to this post. Yes - an OEM or full retail version?Full retail version - What is the age of system (hardware)? Eh, varies video cards about a year old, memory and hardrives are about the same length of time. Chip is fairly new within a few months. - What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) OS was freshly reinstalled on 11/17/2011. All drivers for all pieces of hardware in my machine have had the newest drivers updated, including my video cards. I have also done the BIOS update for both of my video cards available from Palit. Oddly enough i can play Starcraft II for hours and no issue with rebooting... only when it sits for an extended period of time as mentioned earlier.
