Internet Shuts Off When Monitor Sleeps?
Mar 2, 2011So for some reason when my monitor sleeps it shuts my internet off.
View 1 RepliesSo for some reason when my monitor sleeps it shuts my internet off.
View 1 RepliesI tried google'ing for this but I'm not sure how to word it, This is what happens: I could be doing whatever on my computer, then once in a while, randomly shuts itself off; but not completely. My monitor goes into DVI power saving mode (like when the computer sleeps), keyboard / mouse shut off, my external soundcard is un-synced, but the fans are all running. It restarted itself the first time after about 10 minutes, but every time after that I was too impatient to wait.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy ASUS P8Z68-Vpro Windows 7(64) system will go to sleep manually (from the shutdown menu). I have power management set to turn off the monitor and go to sleep after one minute. After a minute the monitor turns off, but the computer fan keeps on going. (What used to happen is the computer would go to sleep, the fan would turn off, but then a second or two later the computer would wake up by itself. It's possible this has changed because I'm playing with various settings). In any event, I have never gotten it to go to sleep on its own and stay there.
Even when I tell it to go to sleep manually on rare occasions it has also woken up unprovoked. On the local area connection (Intel 82579) I've turned off all wake up things (Wake on lan, wake on link, etc.) I've allowed windows to sleep even when sharing multimedia. I've turned off wake on USB. The keyboard and mouse are now the only devices in the device manager that claim to have the ability to wake the computer up. I suspect the problem may be the D-Link DWA-556 wireless card (PCI slot), although it doesn't report that it has the ability to wake up the computer.
But a few times when I have gotten the computer to go to sleep I was able to wake it up merely by screwing the antenna into the connector on the back. Even though the wireless connection had been disabled from the network and sharing control panel. Does this indicate that my wireless card is defective, or is there some setting on it that I don't know about. Are there any other reasons the computer may not go to sleep or immediately wake up? (I have looked in the event viewer and haven't seen anything suspicious.) Does windows have a log somewhere that could tell me what is waking the computer up (or keeping it from sleeping.)

Problem is that both the monitor and the TV goes to sleep after about 3 hours displaying. The splitters input connection is from a docking station from where I dock my dell laptop. I only get the display back on the two screens by powering of the splitter for a few seconds then powering it on again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I choose "SLEEP" it only turns off the monitor , normally when the PC sleeps you can hear everything turn off and the power button glows... it does this if i leave it for 25 minutes (as thats how long its set too wait before sleeping) - but when I manually force sleep it seems to simply turn off the monitor? you can hear alll fans and hard-drive still going, when i wake it its at the login screen

When I open up in regular mode, as it is setting up I get hundreds of small lines across the monitor. They are thin lines like on notebook paper but very close together. Then within a few minn. the computer restarts. My operating system is windows vista. When I restart it in safe mode I don't get the lines and it works fine except for the programs that don't start up like sound and some of the programs I try to use. View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows 7 RC on a Dell 1501 laptop. The problem I have is if I leave the computer idle for a few minutes and the screen turns off (the pc doesn't go into hibernate or sleep) and then I move the mouse, the screen turns back on but the pointed is jumpy and my programs are unresponsive.
If I hit ctrl+alt+del the system then needs to be shut down by holding the power button. I used the Beta previously and didn't have this problem. Anyone out there know anything about this problem? It makes the system almost unusable. Performance is very good with 7 except for this issue.
I've seen lots of problems but this one has me puzzled. I thought my old graphics card (EVGA GTX 285) was having some problems and it was time for an upgrade so I purchased a new EVGA GTX-660 ti. I'm still having the same problem so I don't think its the graphics card. What happens, when windows starts before the log in screen comes up the monitor shuts down. However, I can start Windows in safe mode. I can go in and remove the drivers and restart Windows and everything comes up. Windows will install the new drivers and when I restart to set the drivers the problem returns exactly as before. I have flashed the BIOS, updated the chip set drivers, tried loading the card drivers from several different sources and no luck. Its a Gateway FX6801 PC, i7, 12 gigs of RAM, 750w power supply (I have watched the BIOS power and its steady as a rock)

I've always wondered if background tasks continue to run while the PC is in sleep mode or hibernation. Are there actions that I can take to wake it up? What happens if I'm running a scan and the PC goes into hibernation or sleep mode?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Windows 7 (32-bit). I love everything about it except one major thing that seems to be a common problem, from the research I've done.Whenever the computer sleeps or goes in to standby mode, about 80% of the time when I come out of it, it loses the network connection. I will get one of two messages: "Local area connection doesn't have a valid IP address" or "Local area conncetion doesn't have a valid IP configuration." (It's usually the first message).I've Googled this several times and I've tried the fixes. I've tried searching for Bonjour (according to my Services list, it's disabled). I've tried setting the IPv6 off in the TCP/IP settings. I've tried changing the Wireless Adapter Setting's Power Save Mode to Maximum Performance. None of this has prevented this issue from happening.
View 3 Replies View RelatedBasically.. I have a orange LED light that blinks like crazy when I'm downloading something.. but what's wierd is.. Once I've finished the download, Sometimes.. It just keeps blinking forever!
That tells me that it's downloading from somewhere and I can't tell from where exactly.. Luckily.. Uninstalling the wireless driver & reinstalling it solves the problem but it tends to come back eventually..
So what I am requesting from you fine people here @ SevenForums is for some type of Internet Bandwidth Monitor which I can use to see where my laptop is downloading from & hopefully stop it completely so that I may use my broadband speed for something more.. For me & less for what I don't want.
I am running Connectify on a Windows 7 laptop. I am currently having issues with something eating up all the bandwidth and I want to see if there is any software that I can use that will monitor each computer's amount of internet usage (WireShark won't do, if it can please tell me how).
View 3 Replies View RelatedLast time a few months ago I wanted to monitor the internet usage of computers, I know have a solution. I now want to know, what FREE software that can fulfill all the following requirements:1. Be installed on the central server that provides internet access ONLY, not on client computers2. Monitor what web URL's have each and every client have been to3. Is not a demo or trial version of the software; it is simply just free software.4. Install on Windows 7 computer There is no requirement as to the content of the webpages accessed or sent, simply the URL's is sufficient, though it'll be good I have already tried:- Wireshark (Doesn't categorize data and it doesn't filter out the data)- MING Network Monitor (is not free software)- Spiceworks (No such function)- GFI web monitor (not free software)
View 5 Replies View RelatedThis happens randomly, starting about a month ago. I'm on Windows 7 64bit, and every so often my monitor would flicker black just once, and once it goes back from blackness for a second, the task bar would be totally plain and white. The internet would also be disconnected with no way to go back to normal unless I restart. Half the time, the computer crashes after I restart making me use a restore point.
Does this have to do with hardware? I run diagnostics and memtest86 and half the time it says something is wrong with my RAM, then when I reinsert them, the tests say I'm ok. Then when this happen again, my ram tests faulty again. I have no idea what's going on. Any light on this situation would make me very appreciative.
Recently (for the last few months), I've been having a problem where if I sleep/hibernate my laptop (Dell XPS 15), whether that be by shutting the lid or manually, upon waking I receive a BSOD after 5-20 minutes. The message presented is a DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FALIURE. Interestingly, until the crash my USB ports also stop working completely.I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium x64, which is NOT the original install, but a new one made from a retail CD. I installed this straight after getting the laptop (July 2010), and had no problems until mid-March.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIt seems i have narrowed down my issue that I have been dealing with for it seems like months now. Well essentially my system will reboot anytime it sits for an extended period of time (about 15 to 20 Minutes). My computer will go into standby mode. I do have it set for my computer to never sleep but only my screens. I have followed the BSOD instructions and do and those to attach to this post. Here is the additional information regarding this problem... Is Windows 7 . . . - x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? - x64 - the original installed OS on the system? Yes - an OEM or full retail version?Full retail version - What is the age of system (hardware)? Eh, varies video cards about a year old, memory and hardrives are about the same length of time. Chip is fairly new within a few months. - What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) OS was freshly reinstalled on 11/17/2011. All drivers for all pieces of hardware in my machine have had the newest drivers updated, including my video cards. I have also done the BIOS update for both of my video cards available from Palit. Oddly enough i can play Starcraft II for hours and no issue with rebooting... only when it sits for an extended period of time as mentioned earlier.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am running a dual monitor setup with my TV hooked up via HDMI to my laptop.
Everything was working fine before, I always had the laptop as my main display yet I could play a video or a game fullscreen on the TV.
Since a couple of days, as soon as I put something in fullscreen, it immediately goes on my laptop, regardless if it's open on my TV or my laptop. I don't remember changing/installing anything that could've changed that...
I checked a bit in the AMD vision software and the Windows control pannel but I can't seem to solve my problem without switching my TV as the main display. I also made a quick search on google as well as here but the problems were mainly with Flash, which isn't in cause here.
Here are my system specs:
Toshiba Satellite L75D
Windows 7 home premium 64-bit
AMD Radeon 6520G
I have just did a clean install of Windows 7 ultimate from XP and I am unable to get my dual monitors to work like they did in XP.
I have a DVI Radeon graphics card plugged into the agp slot, and a Nvidia geforce vga adapter plugged into a pci slot of my dell optiplex 755. When I am in the screen resolution settings the second monitor cannot be detected.
In bios I have 2 options under primary video adapter and they are auto, and onboard card. When set to auto the Nvidia card gets a signal but the Radeon does not. There are no conflicts in the device manager, and all of the drivers are up to date.
When I change the bios option to onboard card the Radeon adapter gets a signal but the other monitor cannot be detected and in device manager there is a yellow exclamation mark next to Standard VGA adapter and a code 10 error that states the device could not be started.
I have powered down, and unplugged every cable, I also tried to use the integrated VGA adapter to the Intel G31/G33/Q33/Q35 Graphics Controller but the computer will not even boot. I get
"System Halted
Attention Unsupported Video Configuration Detected"
I have two monitors, both work fine as standalone but Windows will not detect either as a secondary.
Please help me someone, I am so used to having my helpdesk email open in one monitor and all of my other work in the other monitor.
This computer is running an ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro. It does support dual monitors...(I've had dual monitors active on this card before, but never on Windows 7.) But since installing windows 7, I can't even get it to detect the second monitor. I want to run the setup with the CRT as the primary monitor and the HD as the secondary.

As you can see from above, the "video card" is actually integrated into the motherboard. The computer works perfectly except for one major problem. I have 2 monitors, one is 22" with 1680 x 1050 resolution and the other is a 15" monitor with 1024 x 768 resolution. At the back of my computer I have a VGA port and a DVI port. The 15" is connected to the VGA port and the 22" is connected to the DVI port. When first starting the computer, the 15" monitor was recognized as the primary monitor while the 22" was recognized as the secondary monitor. No problem. I simply went to the display settings and set the 22" to be the primary monitor and the 15" to be the secondary monitor. Unfortunately, this setting seems to reset as soon as I reboot the computer. The 15" is always set as the primary monitor on start up, forcing me to set the proper settings all over again. What's worse is that even after I have set the proper settings, they sometimes revert back when using Media Center or other programs. Worse yet, sometimes the monitors both go completely black ... as if the monitor settings were about to switch but got locked up some how.I'm assuming that perhaps the on board video has a primary port (VGA) and a secondary port (DVI) but even still, shouldn't Windows 7 be able to over-ride this and save these settings so that the monitor settings remain the same during startup and regular usage?
I'm using a television (32p) as a second monitor in extended mode so that I can watch a movie in the TV and play a game in the monitor (this was my main goal). Monitor and TV lays in two different ambients, both connected to the same pc, one by normal VGA cable and the other by HDMI. I managed to differentiate the audio output so that VLC player sends it's audio to the HDMI (so that only the TV plays it) and the rest of system sounds, media players and games outputs to the speakers (basically only the VLC audio is directed to another output device). I reached my goal so that I can watch a movie fullscreen in the TV and play a game in the monitor fullscreen too without any interference from one another (nor audio or video).
The thing is, because I have the TV in another ambient I can't actually see what's going on in it, as I just "throw" the VLC window to the TV from my main monitor. And here's the question: There's a way to see the TV's desktop in my monitor? Without having to set it as main monitor so to not really switch between desktops.. The perfect thing would be if I could see the TV's desktop in a window like in remote desktops applications.
