View 3 RepliesI am getting a lot of BSOD when my laptop is connected to an external monitor using a display-port cable. The system is fine when I don't use a external monitor and use just laptop screen. External monitor is a Dell 30inch. I have tried different display-port cables, different monitors, tried connecting via vga...still get BSOD, so I am thinking the problem is more on the windows 7/software side rather than hardware.
1. Uninstall AVG free edition 2011
2. Upgraded network-gigabit driver directly from intel instead of Lenovo
3a. Upgraded Nvidia drivers directly from nvidia for Quadro 1000m (ver 8.17.12.7533 - 5/20/2011) - got BSOD within 30min
3b. Downgraded Nvidia drivers to version from Lenovo (ver 8.17.12.6696 - 2/2/2011) - still get BSOD but there is more time between BSODs.
I am using a lenovo w520 laptop, win 7 SP1, x64. 8gb memory, intel 510 solid-state drive, Nvidia Quadro 1000 and Intel HD Graphics 3000, No-Anti-Virus and running zone-alarm firewall.
my keyboard and mouse is usb type but unfortunately all usb port is disable so ican not login my computer ?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Sceptre X20WG Naga 20.1" monitor on a DVI connection with my EVGA GTX460 card. I was using it yesterday while studying for finals and decided to hook up my 37" Westinghouse TV via VGA connection, using a VGA-to-DVI converter to plug into the graphics card, as the card only has dual-DVI and mini-HDMI outputs. It was working grand as a second screen, no issue at all. Now, today, I turned on my computer and my Sceptre Monitor wasn't outputting any images at all, it just said no signal detected and then went to sleep, though my computer was still on.
So I turned on the TV out of curiosity and found that the TV was now the main screen, still with the VGA connection, and I hadn't unplugged anything since yesterday. So I logged in and right-clicked on the desktop, went to screen resolution, and here it says that the TV is the only screen detected, even after hitting detect. So I unplugged the VGA from to TV and plugged it into the Sceptre Monitor. Turned on the computer and the monitor worked like a charm on the VGA cable. I also plugged the DVI cable that I was using for the monitor into the TV and that worked like a champ too.
The only reason this is bugging me is because I won't always be using the TV as a main display because it's kinda of a pain to sit close to a screen that big. So I am currently on this forum while my monitor is using the VGA connection. It also seems to vary from which DVI port I use on the videocard because if I plug the VGA cable with converter into the 2nd port, there is no video output, but if it's in the first port, works great. I'm going to try just the DVI cable to the TV on each card port to see what the deal is there.
So basically:
The cable isn't the problem.
The VGA needs to be in the 1st DVI port on the card to work.
The DVI doesn't work at all when hooked up to the monitor.
What I want is to be able to use DVI on the monitor and VGA on the TV.
Specs:
Intel Core 2 Quad Kentsfield Q6600 2.4GHz @3.0GHz
8Gb Kingston ValuRam DDR3-1333
Asus P5G41T-M LX Mobo
EVGA GTX460(2x Dual link DVI and 1x mini HDMI)
Windows 7 Professional x64
i tried to connect my TV to my laptop through the HDMI port.
but under the screen resolution there is only my main screen.

Now the drive powers on when connected but wont load up as an accessible drive and is not found is disc management.I've tried the HDD successfully in another laptop with USB 3.0 and it works fine on my Zenbook's USB 2.0 port so I'm guessing there's no problem with the HDD itself. Also I have tried a small flash drive in the Zenbook's 3.0 port which worked fine.I have tried updating the USB 3.0 driver to the latest version via Asus' driver database but have got the same result.I would of thought with such a prestigious laptop someone else would of run across this problem but all my googling has turned up ziltch.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Powerpoint presentation with embedded video clips. The Smart Art doesn't animate correctly in Powerpoint 2003 (which, unfortunately, is still being used by a large number of people who need to view these files). Solution 1: I packaged for CD and included PowerPoint Viewer 2007 Outcome: The Smart Art still DOESN'T animate; Embedded videos WILL play
Solution 2: Instruct the end users to download and install PowerPoint Viewer 2010 Outcome: The Smart Art DOES animate; Embedded videos will NOT play.
I discovered that if I open the presentation file in PowerPoint 2010 I get a warning that external medial objects have been blocked. If I click the Enable Content button, then close Powerpoint and go back to Powerpoint Viewer 2010 (on the same computer) embedded video WILL play. How does someone who does not have the full version of Powerpoint 2010 open the presentation file and enable content?
To make things even more complicated... I just opened the Help menu in Viewer. -> The Media tab indicates shortcuts for start, stop, volume, etc. Then, I opened the readme file. -> "PowerPoint Viewer does not support running macros, programs, or opening linked or embedded objects". That's a bit contradictory, isn't it? Media IS an embedded object, is it not?!

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Thinkpad T61 and just installed Win 7 Professional with an external monitor.
After loading Win 7 i needed to select connect to projector to get my external monitor working. Windows 7 is displayed on the entire screen and all text is nice and crips. No distortion whatsoever.
The problem is the Win 7 Intel 965 chipset family patch. After installing it i loose about 1/2 inch on the right hand side of the monitor. Adjusting the monitor (it has an automatic focus and alignment adjustment function) does not resolve it. I still see that 1/2 inch black border there.
But worse, any text (word document, web-pages, txt files) goes from crips to blurry every 2 inches and the monitor adjustment can't fix it. Removing the Intel chipset patch and rebooting the PC shows Win 7 from frame to frame again (no more black border on the right) and the text is all crisp again.
The monitor driver version that was loaded with Win 7 is 8.15.10.1749. I downloaded the latest driver from Intel 8.15.10.1930 but even with that driver i get the black frame and text distortion back.
Anybody has experienced this before and knows how to fix it? Not using the Intel patch forces me to logon on the notebook (which is in a cupboard) then select connect to a projector again to get Win 7 onto the external monitor. And unfortunately this setting is not retained.
Im running 7 on my laptop, and im trying to get it to output only to my external monitor when the lid is closed. I can get it to extend my desktop, but when i close the lid, it turns off the external monitor. I have set Windows 7 to do nothing when lid is closed. Is there anyone else with this problem?
I have an Dell Inspiron 1525, with Intel x3100 integrated graphics, if that helps.
I have always used an external monitor when using windows vista and now that i have upgraded to windows 7 when i plug in my external monitor it flashes on and off. I have changed the refresh rate on the monitor and all it does is change how fast the external monitor flashes. Also, I had this problem when using windows vista and I changed a setting in windows task scheduler and it fixed it. Tried doing the same thing in 7 and the problem is still there. In addition, I tried using a different monitor cable and the problem is still there.

If I need to type for a second, when I open the laptop it automatically changes from the external display to the laptop display. This sometimes crashes certain applications and games. I would much prefer if it didn't automatically change my current screen when I plugged in a HDMI cable or when I opened the laptop lid. Is this possible?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI 'm looking for easiest possibe way to switch between external monitor/external+internal extended view laptop LCD. Most likely this could be done by Fn+F8 which cycles among internal/external/internal+external (cloned). What I'd need is to cycle between External output only/internal+external (extended) and optionally internal only. So int+ext in cloned mode has no use for me. I know that it can be switched by Win+P which gives to choice whether cloned or extended view, but I'd like to have this changed in the cycle by Fn+F8 from cloned to extened, is that possible?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently got a 24" 1920 x 1080 external LCD monitor for my laptop. It's awesome. I've been using laptops only for many years and now I'm very sorry I waited so long before getting one. But, on to my issue:
I want to only use the external monitor and keep the laptop screen turned off. The problem is that when I resume from sleep sometimes, but not always, the laptop display comes back on showing only the desktop wallpaper. So I then have to hit the windows key plus "p" (for projector) and select projector to get the laptop display turned off again.
I know how to select the external monitor in Windows 7. Basically, one goes to screen resolution from the desktop right click context menu and make the proper selection under multiple monitors (see screenshot below).
But windows 7 seems to forget this setting sometimes and it's a mild annoyance to have to check the laptop monitor and if it's on, hit the windows key plus "p" each time (or almost each time).
So I'm wondering if there's some way to force windows 7 to remember to use only the external monitor and keep the laptop monitor off until I tell it otherwise? I suppose this issue is likely due to some bug in one of my drivers but I am using all the latest drivers.
About 3 seconds after I plug in an external monitor (VGA-out), my netbook LCD screen goes black (backlight still on) and the system locks up. No display on external monitor. I'm pretty sure it's a BSoD (just not visible since it's a display issue). If I plug in the monitor and then boot, windows will go through the loading screen and just before showing the welcome screen, it will reboot (and go through a loop).
What I have tried:
-Removing ACPI driver (only available ACPI driver is designed for XPDM).
-Installing the monitor driver before plugging it in.
-Using safe mode (safe mode will only mirror the display just like it does in BIOS).
-A different monitor.
-Win+P and selecting option just before plugging in.
I'm fairly sure the issue is Intel driver related. I could uninstall the current driver and install Intels XPDM driver and give that a try, but I would lose Aero and there are stability and compatibility issues with the old XP drivers on many 3D applications. Anyone have any suggestions?
