External Monitor Used To Work/now It Doesn't But It Is Still Detected?
Dec 25, 2012I have an Acer Aspire 5741-5979 using a graphics card of Intel (R) graphics. This is a new issue I have had recently. I used to connect an external monitor to my laptop, and it worked fine. The issue is that the laptop still detects the external monitor but the external monitor does not receive a signal when I plug it in the VGA (blue trapezoid connector) have played around with the display options an exhausting amount of times and nothing works there. I tried what worked before (extending the display) and trying to clone it. I thought it might be a driver issue and I reinstalled the driver, but this didn't seem to help either. I have used many monitors when it worked, and also tried different monitors after it stopped working to no avail

Dec 7, 2009I'm running into this and issue and I can't peg down a cause. I recently updated my Vista HTPC to Windows 7. When booting up I can get into the OS, but the screen goes black shortly after.
I have tried two monitors: the Panasonic plasma just goes black and when I try Samsung Syncmaster LCD it looks like it's searching for digital, then analog sources.
I have an Nvidia 8400 GS card and I've tried both the 191.07 and 195.62 drivers. I've also let Windows install the drivers after uninstalling the Display Adapter in Device Manager in Safe Mode.
When I start in Safe Mode I cannot recreate the issue. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers in Safe Mode.
3rd Monitor Not Detected
Jan 28, 2010I was using two monitors with two ATI Radeon 4800 cards and that worked fine. I just purchased another monitor (Samsung) and now I cannot get it detected. The device manager is only showing 2 generic PnP monitors. I'm not sure why they would not be the specific monitors brands either (one Samsung and one Acer).
Any way of getting the third monitor detected? I've heard about deleting the graphics card drivers and then the monitor might be detected. But I do not know the procedure for doing that.
2nd Monitor Not Detected Vga To Dvi-d Adapter
Mar 2, 2012I'm running a ASUS P8H67-V REV 3.0 mothboard which has a VGA and a DVI-D output. When I connect a second monitor w/ a vga to dvi-d adapter, it does not detect the monitor at all. I've tested the DVI-D port with a dvi to hdmi cable to my TV, at it works as soon as I hook that up. Below is the onboard graphics info.

Dec 28, 2009So I got a new monitor for xmas, the LG Flatron W1953T and I wanted to get it running with my Dell monitor. I have an onboard NVIDIA GeForce 8300 and at first just tried to plug the new monitor into the DVI port but I think it's broken or something.
Anyways, I bought this Triton Technologies External VGA video card that I just plug into a USB port, and now I have both monitors running through VGA, and my second monitor is up, but the resolution just looks terrible on the second one, and when I go to adjust resolution or whatever it says I have only one monitor and if I hit detect it doesn't come up.
In my devices menu it says I have the dell menu, and then two other "Generic non PnP monitors" even though I only have one other monitor connected.
I also go to my NVIDIA control panel and it doesnt say the second monitor is detected.
Both monitors are working, like I see my desktop background on the other monitor and I can drag stuff over to it but its just not detected or something idk. I want to download Ultramon too, (Or should I get something else w/ windows 7? I heard you cant have two taskbars w seven.
External HDD Not Detected?
Feb 2, 2012This has been a problem since moving to a Windows 7 64 bit machine.
I plug a HDD into an external USB and...nothing. Not listed in the computer "tree" when I go to administrative tools/Disk management it is not listed, and in the bottom tray there is no icon to safely eject the drive, as if it isnt even there. It is spinning though so I am afraid to unplug it lest I corrupt info on the drive.
Upgraded To GTX 670, Second Monitor No Longer Detected?
Jun 29, 2012So I just upgraded from a GTX 560 TI to a GTX 670 and now my computer can't detect my second monitor. My main monitor is plugged in via DVI while my second computer is plugged in via HDMI. I've been on nvidia control panel and tried finding my second monitor there on the "multiple monitors" section, no second monitor there either.

Annoying intemittent fault whereby the monitor is incorrectly detected as a generic model instead of an LG L192WS and the screen resolution changes to a lower setting which loses a large percentage of the desktop. I've updated to the latest AMD drivers as that seemed to work for others with a similar problem but to no avail. it takes 5 mouse clicks to open desktop and reset the display to the correct one, but after spending quite a bit to speed up my system I begrudge the time!
External Hard Drive Not Detected
Apr 14, 2011I have an 1T external drive plugged into esata port. It used to work and now it doesn't? When I boot up bios correctly identifies the drive as a seagate sata drive. When I look at device manager is says its a seagate SCSI drive and therefore the system doesn't recognize it at all? In device manager under drive properties it say " this device is working properly" I checked in disk management.

I remember I restarted my laptop around the time this happened (I do not remember if it happened before or after this)When I attach it with the eSata cable, nothing happens. Oct 6, 2011I recently purchased an Iomega 1TB external hard drive to back up my files from my Laptop (Toshiba satellite) because it has been constantly showing hard drive failure warnings and messages telling me to back up my files. When I connected the hard drive the first time, it worked fine and I was able to access it, but didn't use it for anything at the time. The next time I used it, however, the usual "New device" sound didn't play and the hard drive didn't show up in the file browser. I then looked up the issue to find that it is a common problem where the device hasn't been assigned a drive letter. I went to the Disk Manager to fix the issue but the device was not in the list of connected devices.The problem seems to be with my computer because it works fine on my brother's computer and has no issues.Additionally, I have been having problems with Windows Update being stuck on "Downloading 0%" and have had to use the system restore several times when getting stuck on an update message on startup. I think that this may be the cause of the problem (and yes, I have turned on the hard drive).

External Hard Drive Detected But Not Accessible?
Oct 24, 2012I have windows 7 32 bit on a toshiba laptop. I am posting becuase this is a strange situation. I have a goflex exteral terrabyte. The computer recognizes it, lists it in the device manager and claims that it is working properly. However, I can't access it, I can't save anything to it, or get anything from it, or even see the files on it.
Now, I have a mac and a pc, the drive said it could be used on both. So i first used it on the mac (and it works perfectly) but not on the pc. It there a share error maybe?
I am an editor and I was hoping to be able to easily move from my computer (mac) to my clients (pc).

I have a Lite-On eSAU108 Black Slim External DVD Burner which works flawlessly on my laptop running windows Ultimate 64Bit. I just built myself a new system and wanted to use my external dvd burner rather than an internal drive
When i plug the burner into my rear usb 2.0 ports on my home premium version of windows 7 i have installed on my desktop it wont even detect the eSAU108 USB burner!
My initial thought is that I have a driver issue. Im fully updated with all my hardware except the motherboard BIOS and windows 7 home premium is fully updated.
External Hard Drives Without Their Own Power Supply Are Not Detected
Jan 8, 2012My desktop does not detect and external hard drive that do not come with their own power supply. I have many externals that also plug into the wall and they are working fine; but whenever it is an external without a plug, i.e. the portable ones they are never found.
They do not show up in Computer Management, so it is not because I did not assign a letter to the drive.
I have tried various things, but I don't know what I should be testing for or looking for. These externals all work on other laptops and other desktops perfectly fine so it is not the externals. When they are plugged into my desktop, they light up normally like they should, but the desktop never detects them. I have tried these externals with the different USB cable I have on hand, but nothing seems to work. It doesn't matter which USB port I plug the device in, it still gives me no response.
I am running a i7 860 on a ASUS P7P55D Pro.

Dec 9, 2009I have a Thinkpad T61 and just installed Win 7 Professional with an external monitor.
After loading Win 7 i needed to select connect to projector to get my external monitor working. Windows 7 is displayed on the entire screen and all text is nice and crips. No distortion whatsoever.
The problem is the Win 7 Intel 965 chipset family patch. After installing it i loose about 1/2 inch on the right hand side of the monitor. Adjusting the monitor (it has an automatic focus and alignment adjustment function) does not resolve it. I still see that 1/2 inch black border there.
But worse, any text (word document, web-pages, txt files) goes from crips to blurry every 2 inches and the monitor adjustment can't fix it. Removing the Intel chipset patch and rebooting the PC shows Win 7 from frame to frame again (no more black border on the right) and the text is all crisp again.
The monitor driver version that was loaded with Win 7 is 8.15.10.1749. I downloaded the latest driver from Intel 8.15.10.1930 but even with that driver i get the black frame and text distortion back.
Anybody has experienced this before and knows how to fix it? Not using the Intel patch forces me to logon on the notebook (which is in a cupboard) then select connect to a projector again to get Win 7 onto the external monitor. And unfortunately this setting is not retained.
Cant Output To External Monitor Only
Jul 8, 2009Im running 7 on my laptop, and im trying to get it to output only to my external monitor when the lid is closed. I can get it to extend my desktop, but when i close the lid, it turns off the external monitor. I have set Windows 7 to do nothing when lid is closed. Is there anyone else with this problem?
I have an Dell Inspiron 1525, with Intel x3100 integrated graphics, if that helps.
External Monitor Flickering On And Off?
Aug 11, 2009I have always used an external monitor when using windows vista and now that i have upgraded to windows 7 when i plug in my external monitor it flashes on and off. I have changed the refresh rate on the monitor and all it does is change how fast the external monitor flashes. Also, I had this problem when using windows vista and I changed a setting in windows task scheduler and it fixed it. Tried doing the same thing in 7 and the problem is still there. In addition, I tried using a different monitor cable and the problem is still there.

Oct 7, 2009I recently got a 24" 1920 x 1080 external LCD monitor for my laptop. It's awesome. I've been using laptops only for many years and now I'm very sorry I waited so long before getting one. But, on to my issue:
I want to only use the external monitor and keep the laptop screen turned off. The problem is that when I resume from sleep sometimes, but not always, the laptop display comes back on showing only the desktop wallpaper. So I then have to hit the windows key plus "p" (for projector) and select projector to get the laptop display turned off again.
I know how to select the external monitor in Windows 7. Basically, one goes to screen resolution from the desktop right click context menu and make the proper selection under multiple monitors (see screenshot below).
But windows 7 seems to forget this setting sometimes and it's a mild annoyance to have to check the laptop monitor and if it's on, hit the windows key plus "p" each time (or almost each time).
So I'm wondering if there's some way to force windows 7 to remember to use only the external monitor and keep the laptop monitor off until I tell it otherwise? I suppose this issue is likely due to some bug in one of my drivers but I am using all the latest drivers.
Eee PC 900HA: External Monitor BSOD
Mar 8, 2009About 3 seconds after I plug in an external monitor (VGA-out), my netbook LCD screen goes black (backlight still on) and the system locks up. No display on external monitor. I'm pretty sure it's a BSoD (just not visible since it's a display issue). If I plug in the monitor and then boot, windows will go through the loading screen and just before showing the welcome screen, it will reboot (and go through a loop).
What I have tried:
-Removing ACPI driver (only available ACPI driver is designed for XPDM).
-Installing the monitor driver before plugging it in.
-Using safe mode (safe mode will only mirror the display just like it does in BIOS).
-A different monitor.
-Win+P and selecting option just before plugging in.
I'm fairly sure the issue is Intel driver related. I could uninstall the current driver and install Intels XPDM driver and give that a try, but I would lose Aero and there are stability and compatibility issues with the old XP drivers on many 3D applications. Anyone have any suggestions?
