I am dual booting windows 7 and ubuntu 10.04 on a hp dv4 1162 tx laptop and have it plugged into a Benq monitor. That is the only monitor that i use and don't do any dual monitor things.
My dilemma is that this monitor does not show any of the boot screens and that means that i cannot choose which os to boot into. How can i make it show them.
I have just bought entirely new system about 4 months go or so, this has been a self build. The issues first had was whenever i select to shut down windows it starts shutting down and as it gets to the point where it actually is supposed to turn off it suddenly blue screens and then goes into a restarting boot! this is hugely frustrating as when i select shut down i want it to shut down not blue screen and restart. I formatted my machine about a month ago as the issue was getting extremely repetitive, once formatted everything worked great until just the other day it started again it is not as frequent as it used to be, it only happens once every 2 weeks or so. I know its not viruses as i run KIS and malwarebytes and regularly scan the system for any issues, i dont think its hardware because the system is new and i have used the best parts, also i dont think it is frequent enough to be hardware.
i'm trying to add a second monitor so that i can't switch between screens... everything is set up but its just mirroring each other, i've tried detecting the second one but still nothing
I can't get the text to be the same size on both monitors. I use to be able to with vista ( they just where)
I am using a java based application with alot of text (only allowed on set of the text) The size difference is like this ---- on monitor this size ---- the other this size.
I have tried mucking around with the resolution it makes the situation worse.
I've just installed windows 7 and I'm expiriencing the following problem. I'm using a dual monitor setup with a philips 170B running at 1280x1024 and a LG W2253 wide running at 1920x1080. The problem is whatever I try to do, the screens wont be placed in a straight line, fitting exactly on the same size. Some small portion of the LG will be outsite of the other screens limits, making windows uneven, etc. Back in Windows xp I never had this problem. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
when i start my machine (laptop)i get a logon screen and i can choose 2 account my own admin account and a nother account called: ''other account''and before this it was allright I will put a Picture on how it looks like
I performed a new 32-bit install of Windows 7. For some reason, the monitor shuts off when windows starts. I found that after Windows boots, if I hit the "sleep" button on my keyboard, allow the computer to sleep, then wake the computer, the monitor turns on and everything is fine. Why would they force a person to put the PC into sleep mode every time the PC is booted? I have a PC with a Gigabyte GA-MA69G-S3H motherboard (AMD 690G chipset). I'm using the integrated graphics and I removed everything from the PC except for the drives, monitor, and mouse.

i have done a memtest and it was successful without fail also this is the 3rd time I have done a clean install before was cause of ntoskrnl.exe so did a clean install now its cause of win32k.sys?
New external HDD won't show in "Computer". I Have searched a lot, but only find comments directing me to Disk management and Device manager. The Ext. HD is not showing there either. Power light is on. This is a Lacie 2 TB Minimus USB 3.0 External Hard Drive [URL] No "Doorbell" sound when I plug in or un plug the USB connector. The LaC i.e., troubleshooting page tells me to go to device manager, but like l said, it's not showing there either.
Plus, it seems to have knocked out several of my USB ports, and I had the warning flag next to several of them in device manager ,but I was able to get them back by right clicking on each line one at a time, Un installing, and right clicking on the heading for the group, and selected "scan for hardware change". Then in the tray, I saw Driver was installed, or device is ready, something like that. All the ports seem to be working now, and the yellow flags are gone.
I did then try the External drive again, but it is still not working. I also installed desktop manager, but it's telling me to plug in my external drive, and then to re start my device. And if I start Desktop Manager it says, "No LaCie Desktop compliant device found." So I have another computer that shares this monitor,so I shut this one down, and hooked up my usb keyboard and mouse to the other older desktop system running XP, and the older computer does recognize this external hard drive.
It is in My computer on the older XP system/computer. So I shut that one down and started this one, and it does not show up on this computer, but then I noticed my keyboard would not work. Had to switch the keyboard USB ports to the other front USB port. And I had the yellow flags back in device manager again. Had to un-install again and let the system re install (selecting "scan for hardware change). Windows 7 Home premium, 64 Bit, Compaq Desktop, model 2010.
i have two external hardrives, well a laptop hardrive and a desktop hardrive in enclosures, and they were working fine with windows 7, but then i installed a virtual disc program virtual clone drive and now they won't show up at all.
anyone else have a similar problem or know what may have happened, i already uninstalled the virtual clone disc program but it still won't load.
A few weeks ago my old Lenovo computer died. I took the HD out and it worked OK in another computer. I then bought a new HP with Windows 7 64 bit. Everything fine except lazy greedy Canon do not produce drivers for my existing scanner for 64 bit, only 32 bit. I have wasted a lot of time trying other drivers, work arounds and expensive memory hogging simulation programs. Howvere, I saw a case I can put my old HD into in a shop the other day. What I am wondering now is if it is possible to do this, plug in it and then boot my old system on those occasions I need to use my scanner?
I work with three kinds of computers. One is on my desktop, new windows 7, dual core, that I use for lesson planning. The second are the computers in the classrooms. I am guessing that they are all almost identical, xp purchased 4 years ago. The third is a server used in the computer lab. I would like to buy an external hd and partition it 3 ways - and install win 7 (english) while it is hooked up to my desktop, install xp (english) while it is hooked up to one of the classroom computers and then install another OS while it is hooked up to the server. I want to be able to connect the hd to the computer, power it on and choose either either partition d:, e: or f: depending on the computer it is hooked up to. I know that I can boot from an external hd but I have never tried putting 3 OS, one to each partition, on an external HD.
My External USB Hard Drive doesn't show up in My Computer Win 7 64bit.
I've just received my Western Element 2,5Tb today. When I first plugged it in, it worked normally. But due to my over-excitement, I copied too much files at the same time and it wasn't working anymore. I regretted doing this immediately.
I have searched on the internet to find some solutions but all of them didn't work. I've checked the Computer Management, Disk Management, but nothing about my External HD showed up. In the notification area, my laptop still detected it and I can removed it properly [even though i can't use it at all].
I tried to connect to my USB and another Samsung 500Gb HDD. And it worked perfectly fine. Then, I tried to connect my new HDD to my sister's lap [she is using Window Vista] and it worked perfectly fine too.
I made the HDD from my dead PC external. It does not show any of my Windows related documents or desktop folders. Is there anyway I can find and retreive them?
ok i have a western digital my passport external hard drive. its Mosley contains games and all of my music and a video. ive haven't even had it for a year and it is not showing up on my pc. i did what other forms that i looked at "going through the computer management and changing the later it doesn't work". but when i did it, it took like ten minutes to load up usually when it is in sleep mode. plus when it is loading i went into my pc and the window is not responding i tried to end it. so i unplugged the usb and everything worked again. it works on other pc's but mine. some of my friends said it could be a virus or a Trojan. i dont know what to do to fix this im thinking of getting a new hard drive but i want to make sure i can fix this before i spend $60-$70 on a new one.
How do I get my external drives to show up in my computer as a letter and not in the printer and devices.... Some of my external drives works fine. Everything was working fine 3 months ago. Everything works fine on my laptop...
A little problem regarding hooking an Asus EEE netbook up to a Haier HDTV/monitor via VGA. Last night, I hooked it up and all went well. My control panel showed me a wide range of resolutions that allowed me to view my entire screen and use the monitor without any problem.oday, I turned the computer back on, and upon switching over to the monitor, my control panel only shows the recommended resolution, which is nowhere near high enough for the monitor. Everything is huge and I can't see most of the screen.I've already tried the following:-Restarting both monitor and computer-Unplugging and plugging back in the VGA cable-Looked at the "show all modes" under advanced options in the display settings. The appropriate resolution was not there, either.
So after the hard drive fiasco that I reported in another thread, I got clever and decided to create an "Emergency Boot Drive" that would have Windows on it as well as some utilities for data recovery. I took one of the many old hard drives that I have floating around and plugged it into the computer AND unplugged my other two drives. Then I ran Windows Install off the DVD and installed Windows to the old drive. I installed my software. All was good. I plugged in the other two drives and tried to boot from the "Emergency" drive and it worked fine.Last step was to unplug the emergency drive from the motherboard, connect it via USB and try to boot. The BIOS sees the drive and I tell it to boot from the drive. So the computer is booting. The "Starting Windows" message comes up and then the system reboots. This happens everytime I try it.Does Windows reset the USB ports so that the drive suddenly vanishes?
I have a Seagate External Hard drive, Desk Goflex 3 TB.I'm using it for sevral mounth in windows 7 and it's working fine. Now, I bought a new latop using windows 7 as well, and it's not recognizing my hard drive. The hard drive doesn't appear in the Disk Management at all.The computer does recognize other USB devices (disk-on-keys, mouse).
My computer shows the space and everything else but doesnt show the folder and files in it like pictures and videos... and also i cant copy anything to it... on other computer there is no problem.
I have a AMD Radeon HD 6300 series adapter, running windows 7 x64.I have a dual monitor setup, the same monitor on each port an Acer S230hl. One port is an HDMI the other is a VGA. the issue i have is that when i have a worksheet open i can see the gridlines to the cells on the HDMI connected monitor, if i move the sheet over to the vga monitor the gridlines are so light i cannot make out the different cells. it looks like one clean sheet of white paper.i tried different contrast and brightness settings and no luck.
I accidentally deleted all the display drivers off of the computer, the computer restarted and now the computer has just seemed to screw up completely. The computer turns on however I get no signal from the monitor, it's on but nothing on the screen so i cant get into BIOS or anything.
I've tried: - Using different cables - Taking out and putting the CMOS battery in - Using different Monitors
I am trying to boot windows server installed in external hard disk from my windows 7 pc but when I am trying to do so it my pc is flashing blue screen and my pc reboots with win 7.
