I have a Seagate External Hard drive, Desk Goflex 3 TB.I'm using it for sevral mounth in windows 7 and it's working fine. Now, I bought a new latop using windows 7 as well, and it's not recognizing my hard drive. The hard drive doesn't appear in the Disk Management at all.The computer does recognize other USB devices (disk-on-keys, mouse).
I recently noticed an issue when trying to connect to external hard drives. Initially noted that it wasn't showing in 'my computer' and so assumed I had driver issues and sought to update them from Dell's site. After doing so there was still no change, but noted that It was appearing in 'device manager'.I even tried updating the USB hubs from the Device Manager, and it states that they are all up-to-date with the correct drivers. Both external hard drives that i have tried has worked on other PC's so i assume that mine is the issue.
I just installed windows 7 on a home built desktop. Everything seems to be running fine except my 3rd hard drive won't show up. In device manager it shows all 3 hard drives, but in My Computer it only shows 2.
The hard drive that isn't showing up in My Computer (but showing up in Device Manager), is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1 TB.
The hard drives that are showing up are both Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 but one is a 500 GB the other is a 750 GB.
ok i have a western digital my passport external hard drive. its Mosley contains games and all of my music and a video. ive haven't even had it for a year and it is not showing up on my pc. i did what other forms that i looked at "going through the computer management and changing the later it doesn't work". but when i did it, it took like ten minutes to load up usually when it is in sleep mode. plus when it is loading i went into my pc and the window is not responding i tried to end it. so i unplugged the usb and everything worked again. it works on other pc's but mine. some of my friends said it could be a virus or a Trojan. i dont know what to do to fix this im thinking of getting a new hard drive but i want to make sure i can fix this before i spend $60-$70 on a new one.
i bought a trix hard drive enclosure/case for my 2.5 250GB hard drive. I connected everything up and inserted the hard drive usb into my laptop but windows will not show the drive in my computer. It does make the beeping noise telling me its detected the drive and it also shows in device management. The strange thing is i tried installing linux on it and it did, but the computer will not boot into it from the enclosure, but does from the hard drive. Ive also tried it on 2 computers and both will not assign the drive and give it a drive letter.
I have a WD My Book 110 External Hard Drive and when I plug it in and go to my computer to access the files on it the drive doesn't show, but if I go to the start menu and type b: in the search box it shows the files and the drive also shows in Disk Management, so why isn't it showing in My Computer and how can I get it to show?
I have a Seagate GoFlex Desk 3TB external hard drive. I got it about.. 6 months ago and I've never had a problem with it up until last week. I plugged it in and it started making a normal fan sound like is usually does, then after a few seconds it stopped which made it seem like it was shut off.
my laptop acer aspire doesnt recognize my external hard drive in windows7. I will be great ful to them. it doesn't show any external hard drive but it shows pen drive and mobile usb cable but not external hard disk
My External USB Hard Drive doesn't show up in My Computer Win 7 64bit.
I've just received my Western Element 2,5Tb today. When I first plugged it in, it worked normally. But due to my over-excitement, I copied too much files at the same time and it wasn't working anymore. I regretted doing this immediately.
I have searched on the internet to find some solutions but all of them didn't work. I've checked the Computer Management, Disk Management, but nothing about my External HD showed up. In the notification area, my laptop still detected it and I can removed it properly [even though i can't use it at all].
I tried to connect to my USB and another Samsung 500Gb HDD. And it worked perfectly fine. Then, I tried to connect my new HDD to my sister's lap [she is using Window Vista] and it worked perfectly fine too.
.I didn't wait for the computer to tell me it was ok to remove the drive in the usb port. Now my computer no longer recognizes the external drive After removing my external hard drive (without the ok) my computer no longer recognizes the external hard drive. What do I do.
My external hard disk up until a few weeks ago had been working perfectly. The next time I used it - windows 7 will not recognise it. I have tried different USB ports and computers. But it doesn't seem to work. It doesn't show up in device manager or disk manager. Its like nothing is plugged in. I tried switching hard disk cases and power supplies. But still nothing. The hard disk seems to try and run every so often, the light flashed red and it makes whirring noises as if it was connecting to the computer.
I dont know what else to do ? And it has almos 1500 GB of data.
I reimaged my computer because I was having a whole bunch of trubble with it (no of which really matter now). After reimaging I tried to access some of the files I saved on my external hard drive, but no matter what I tried I could not get access to the files. The drive appears in device Manager and in the USB Device pages, and I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drive. But for some reason I just can't access the device.
I have an internal hard disk not in use ,and I would like to make it as external disk !I looked on the net and I found I should have the " encelsure " butt I think I wont find it here in my city .So is there another way ? like usb -esata cable
Me and my brother built me a new computer from scratch (he did the building - i did the watching). I purchased an internal hard drive from Overclockers UK. It's a Samsung 1TB drive. I also have a 64 Solid-state drive in there as my primary hard drive that Windows was installed on and a couple of programs are installed on. My storage disk (the 1TB disk) is for all my music/films etc. Whenever I drag and drop a file into the Samsung hard-drive - it copies it rather than moves it instantly. When I had a laptop, I had 3 external hard drives and this is the way it copied files onto them.how I can get the internal drive to stop acting like an external drive?
Evening, like title says my harddrive wont show up when I'm installing windows 7. I followed the instructions up to the select a harddrive/partition but it wont show and says that I need an installation media for it to be read.
I assume this would be where I need a RAID file from my usb but where would I be able to find/download one from?
Laptop in question is a Satelite L555-S7916 3 gb RAM has a 500gb WD Scorpio Blue
Is there anything in particular I need to know or should put down to hep? I'm at a total lost and dont want to do anything dangerous to my laptop.
When I turn on/restart the computer, the desktop itself has two hard drives in it (250GB and 1TB, 1TB is not the one the OS is on)
When I put the computer to sleep, and then wake it up, the 1TB is not active, and to access it I have to completely restart the computer. I'm using a legitimate retail version of Windows 7 Ultimate, if that helps any?
I bought a laptop asus K55VM, and switch the optical drive for a SSD. Both drives are format and active since what a want is a clean install.
During the instillation both drives don't show up, i tried to load drivers from intel but nothing shows up. The Bios shows both drivers, i change from AHCI to IDE but no effect.
I have a USB external hard drive that I keep all my documents etc on (had it for years)I upgraded from Vista Home to & Home Premium then had to upgrade recently to Professional to run my Sage. Through all these upgrades my ext. drive ran fine. Occasionally the drvie letter would change if I had something else plugged into the USB, this was always easily corected in disk management by changing the drive path. The connection on the case packed up so I had to get the drive put into a new case, now when I plug it in the drive is assigned G instead of F, I tried to change the drive letter allocation in Disk Management but it won't let me as the program still thinks I have a second ext. hard drive which is labelled F. I suspect this has happened because when the usb connection broke the drive was disconnected suddenly instead of a proper eject. How do I get Disk Management to remove the inactive drive - i can't find any obvious way - eject, delete etc are all missing when I click on tools or tasks.
I've had Win 7 (on a new laptop) since November. I dislike the way the files are arranged, or at least the way they display, in Explorer. Specifically, the Libraries. Is there a way to eliminate that section and have all folders show up under the hard drive?
I just built a computer for the first time and for the boot drive i have a ssd. With that i have a hard drive. Now windows finds it in device manager but not in "computer". the Bios finds it too. i re installed the driver and restarted still nothing.
When i plug my WD passport portable hard drive into my computer, the hd will start up (the little LED will eliminate) and windows will make the "usb connection" sound and down the bottom right of the screen i have the option to safely remove my passport 0740. So windows picks up my hd but it just wont show up in my computer, it works on my other computer just not this one. i have tried changing the drive letters and that doesnt seem to help. Any ideas? using windows 7 ultimate
I had Windows XP, then installed Windows 7 32bit Ultimate on IDE hard drive.
HOW CAN I FORMAT THE IDE HARD DRIVE SO AS TO DO A CLEAN INSTALL?
When putting CD in and pressing Intall. I wanted to Format my 40Gig IDE hard drive (that I use for windows intallation only). So as to start CLEAN install.
The CD recognised my hard drives. 250Gig SATA and 40Gig IDE....however would not let me format either or change in any way.....something about load driver?? VIA 6140 something.
So instead I thought to boot the disk and try that way. It didnt recognise the IDE hard drive at all. anyway I chose to do it the first way once I found that driver I mentioned.
I installed windows on woindows, then deleted the windows.old file afterwords.
I set the hard drive to stop spinning after 4 hours of idle activity but it doesn't ever go to sleep. If I set the time interval to < 1 hour like 45 min then it will go to sleep.
I'm not talking about the computer going to sleep/hibernating, I mean the spinning of the hard drive.
I have a laptop that is about a year old. Recently, my system rebooted and I was no longer able to view my Programs, files on the Hard drive or any other document. Here is the twist. I am still able to log into windows, use the Internet Explorere. If I happen to know the location of the file I can pull it up. It seems like i have no viewable rights to my C: drive at all. but can still work on files and programs.
I had an internet problem with windows 7 ultimate 64bit, so i decided to format it. I had one windows drive (SAMSUNG 250GB) and one storage drive (HITACHI 1TB) which has 900GB of important data on it. I chose custom installation onto my old windows drive (samsung) and it installed with no problems. I didn't touch my other drive. now, i can't see my 1tb storage drive in computers or in drive manager, but i can still see it in device manager! What should i do?? i really don't want to format it, but if the data is gone then i will have to.
I just got an external hard drive yesterday, and have been asking a few questions on this forum. So far, people have managed to be very helpful with the previous questions, hopefully someone can do so here too.Reinstalling all my games to external hard drive, need to know if they will / how to make them appear / function properly in my GEF, whether added automatically or manually.I am basically going to have EVERYTHING put onto my 1TB external, and by everything I mean "Music, Pictures, Videos, Documents, Games, and maybe Programs". So, I made a folder for each of those things on it,and only now that I am reinstalling my games into the Programs one have I realized something.I am a bit obsessive about having a fully functioning Game Explorer Folder (GEF) with all my games visible in it. It's my assumption that when I install into an external hard drive, none of those games will be automatically added into the GEF. However, if I add them in manually (using the regedit method in the tutorial), should everything function properly, so long as I have my external hard drive on whenever I use the computer?I just need this to be confirmed before I start reinstalling more. Also, if not, please let me know if there IS a way to get them to show up in my GEF properly, or possibly move the GEF to the external hard drive or get it to recognize things from a different directory.
In order to make upgrading via a clean install easier -- and because I've been considering one for awhile anyway -- I'm looking at picking up a decent external hard drives right now... and can't seem to find a clear answer to something:
Will I see any drop off in quality of playback or computer performance if I use a drive like this (external, USB) to store all of my recorded videos. The tuner and Media center would save everything directly to this drive and play everything directly from it. Would that cause any problems at all? I notice that it requires no power adapter since it's USB powered, and it has a Interface Transfer Rate of 480 Mbps -- not sure how either of these apply to my potential use of it.
