Add A Second Monitor So That Can't Switch Between Screens
Jul 1, 2011
i'm trying to add a second monitor so that i can't switch between screens... everything is set up but its just mirroring each other, i've tried detecting the second one but still nothing
I am dual booting windows 7 and ubuntu 10.04 on a hp dv4 1162 tx laptop and have it plugged into a Benq monitor. That is the only monitor that i use and don't do any dual monitor things.
My dilemma is that this monitor does not show any of the boot screens and that means that i cannot choose which os to boot into. How can i make it show them.
I can't get the text to be the same size on both monitors. I use to be able to with vista ( they just where)
I am using a java based application with alot of text (only allowed on set of the text) The size difference is like this ---- on monitor this size ---- the other this size.
I have tried mucking around with the resolution it makes the situation worse.
I've just installed windows 7 and I'm expiriencing the following problem. I'm using a dual monitor setup with a philips 170B running at 1280x1024 and a LG W2253 wide running at 1920x1080. The problem is whatever I try to do, the screens wont be placed in a straight line, fitting exactly on the same size. Some small portion of the LG will be outsite of the other screens limits, making windows uneven, etc. Back in Windows xp I never had this problem. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Is there a way going from a monitor 1 (laptop) and monitor 2 (flatscreen) to the TV that's hookup up with Video-S cable without having to shutdown & unplug the monitor2 and restart. When using Vista I could do this using AVI program.
I 'm looking for easiest possibe way to switch between external monitor/external+internal extended view laptop LCD. Most likely this could be done by Fn+F8 which cycles among internal/external/internal+external (cloned). What I'd need is to cycle between External output only/internal+external (extended) and optionally internal only. So int+ext in cloned mode has no use for me. I know that it can be switched by Win+P which gives to choice whether cloned or extended view, but I'd like to have this changed in the cycle by Fn+F8 from cloned to extened, is that possible?
Basically, I have two user accounts on the system. When User1 hits "Windows Key+L" to lock the machine and User2 comes along and clicks "switch user", the monitor will flicker to black and say "Entering power save", while the monitor's power light switches from green to amber. After 5-10 seconds, the monitor will come back on (light goes back to green) and present the main login screen that lists the user accounts.
User2 then selects their account, types in their password and attempts to log into Windows, and again, monitor flickers to black, says "Entering power save" and stays black for a few seconds, only to re-appear and show the user's desktop. Nothing is affected, but it's just a real nuisance during what's supposed to be "fast" user switching.
This monitor flickering happens on every user switch, regardless of who initiates it. Both users also have identical graphical setups.
Graphics card is an ATI X1900XTX and monitor is a Dell 2007FP. I've tried running the built-in Windows WDM ATI driver as well as the ATI Catalyst 9.1 driver but it didn't make a difference.

i have done a memtest and it was successful without fail also this is the 3rd time I have done a clean install before was cause of ntoskrnl.exe so did a clean install now its cause of win32k.sys?
Whenever I switch user accounts the computer will start the switch and then lock up with a display message that says no signal on the monitor. It happens if the computer has been running for hours or only a couple of minutes. I have to shut the PC off and leave it off for 20-30 minutes. I can then restart and enter any user account. But if I try to switch user or logoff and pick a different user the whole cycle begins anew.
I use windows 7.When I turn on laptop (acer Aspire 5742) cannot connect to internet until I switch user and log in again. Soon as I touch any browser icon the rest of computer stops responding as well. It's only me on computer. Have virgin media security/ spyware/ virus protection. Tried CCleaner. After I switch user everything is fine.Additional info; On 16th October had great difficulty getting my emails from Yahoo. Sometimes sign-in box appeared without my security signature and different style of writing for browser remembered log-on details.
I have a three monitor set up. Whenever I open up a browser, either internet explorer or google chrome on monitors 2 and 3, after a few seconds it automatically drags my browser into my main monitor(monitor 1, where my start button and status bar is located)
I have a setup with 6 monitors. Today my main monitor broke and I couldn't find a way to shut the PC down since I couldn't access the main desktop to get to the Start menu.Is there a way to change which monitor is the main monitor without having access to the current main monitor?
I am running a dual monitor setup with my TV hooked up via HDMI to my laptop.
Everything was working fine before, I always had the laptop as my main display yet I could play a video or a game fullscreen on the TV.
Since a couple of days, as soon as I put something in fullscreen, it immediately goes on my laptop, regardless if it's open on my TV or my laptop. I don't remember changing/installing anything that could've changed that...
I checked a bit in the AMD vision software and the Windows control pannel but I can't seem to solve my problem without switching my TV as the main display. I also made a quick search on google as well as here but the problems were mainly with Flash, which isn't in cause here.
Here are my system specs:
Toshiba Satellite L75D Windows 7 home premium 64-bit AMD Radeon 6520G
I have just did a clean install of Windows 7 ultimate from XP and I am unable to get my dual monitors to work like they did in XP.
I have a DVI Radeon graphics card plugged into the agp slot, and a Nvidia geforce vga adapter plugged into a pci slot of my dell optiplex 755. When I am in the screen resolution settings the second monitor cannot be detected.
In bios I have 2 options under primary video adapter and they are auto, and onboard card. When set to auto the Nvidia card gets a signal but the Radeon does not. There are no conflicts in the device manager, and all of the drivers are up to date.
When I change the bios option to onboard card the Radeon adapter gets a signal but the other monitor cannot be detected and in device manager there is a yellow exclamation mark next to Standard VGA adapter and a code 10 error that states the device could not be started.
I have powered down, and unplugged every cable, I also tried to use the integrated VGA adapter to the Intel G31/G33/Q33/Q35 Graphics Controller but the computer will not even boot. I get
"System Halted
Attention Unsupported Video Configuration Detected"
I have two monitors, both work fine as standalone but Windows will not detect either as a secondary.
Please help me someone, I am so used to having my helpdesk email open in one monitor and all of my other work in the other monitor.
Ever since we've got this desktop we seem to have problems with the screens. It's like it randomly chooses different worlds to reside in. We turn on our computer and then it's just our background picture with no taskbar or programs, but if we just turn the monitor off and then on again it goes back to our regular screen. Then once our screensaver picks up and we decide to get back on, it does it again and so on. Sometimes when we minimize things it disappears off into those other worlds (off to the right side of the computer screen somewhere). Does anyone have any clue as to why this is going on? Is there a way to delete those other "worlds" that my computer visits every so often and that all my stuff likes to travel to?
Everything seems to be ok until I install SP1 . After Restart or a complete shutdown, windows does not bootup. Unless I use the System Repair Disk and Backup Image or Complete Reinstall of WIN 7 So far I've done the online install 8 times. Downloaded to disk and tried twice. After new install, copied to C: and installed from there. Same result: Windows does not reboot after SP1
On my primary monitor I've run a 360 and my Windows 7 p.c into it. I've set up a shortcut hotkey so that I can disable the primary to swap to the 360 when needs be. However I'd like to be able to access the web whilst using my 360 without having to cycle through the monitor menu to swap back. So I got my old monitor on my desk, however I can't think what to do with it. It's got a lower resolution than my primary so simply making it the secondary whenever I want to use the 360 isn't viable (it messes up the icons).
I can't think of any work around, using ultramon and shrinking the main image isn't very good either due to it having both delay and a lower framerate even at the the highest systme usage settings. Can you guys think of any work arounds? I've tried saving the icon positions but then firefox still opens in the main monitor. I really would like to swap monitors on the fly with a hotkey and restore icons later.
would like to add a 3rd monitor to my PC, I understand I need a Graphics card that can support 3 monitors, I think this is ports AGP DMI HDMI if the initials are wrong I am sorry, anyhoo I then have 3 ports to plug into, the question is.. Stay with me I have 2 Hanns G 23" monitors and a HP 24", I would like the HP to be the centre one, in which I do most of my work, the other 2 which I hope can be left and right of centre, going with the graphics card at the moment, I have screen (1) and screen (2) it was simple setup, but I have to push my mouse to the right to get into my 2nd screen thats sits on my left, ok I could place this screen on my right, it's not the point, when I get the 3rd screen will I have the flexibility to make the centre screen i.e the one that will hold my icons etc number 1 screen, then in a perfect world push the mouse to the right and I am in the RH screen, or push the mouse to the left (from centre screen) and I am in the LH screen?
This computer is running an ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro. It does support dual monitors...(I've had dual monitors active on this card before, but never on Windows 7.) But since installing windows 7, I can't even get it to detect the second monitor. I want to run the setup with the CRT as the primary monitor and the HD as the secondary.
I recently had an older HP Pavilion Media Center m7760n Desktop PC rebuilt. The old power supply fried the motherboard so I need to get a new power supply and motherboard. Here are my current specs.

As you can see from above, the "video card" is actually integrated into the motherboard. The computer works perfectly except for one major problem. I have 2 monitors, one is 22" with 1680 x 1050 resolution and the other is a 15" monitor with 1024 x 768 resolution. At the back of my computer I have a VGA port and a DVI port. The 15" is connected to the VGA port and the 22" is connected to the DVI port. When first starting the computer, the 15" monitor was recognized as the primary monitor while the 22" was recognized as the secondary monitor. No problem. I simply went to the display settings and set the 22" to be the primary monitor and the 15" to be the secondary monitor. Unfortunately, this setting seems to reset as soon as I reboot the computer. The 15" is always set as the primary monitor on start up, forcing me to set the proper settings all over again. What's worse is that even after I have set the proper settings, they sometimes revert back when using Media Center or other programs. Worse yet, sometimes the monitors both go completely black ... as if the monitor settings were about to switch but got locked up some how.I'm assuming that perhaps the on board video has a primary port (VGA) and a secondary port (DVI) but even still, shouldn't Windows 7 be able to over-ride this and save these settings so that the monitor settings remain the same during startup and regular usage?
I'm trying to install Windows 7 SP1, but about four minutes into the process, I get a blue screen. This has happened every time I've attempted the installation. I also frequently get blue screens whilst working generally. Do you know what the problem is? System info and the report from the latest blue screen are below.

When I'm using my computer I tend to get a black screen at random times. So far they usually occur while I'm browsing the web and while I'm playing games while on Skype. This happened before and the problem was that I needed a new DVI cable. After getting it fixed it was working fine until about a week ago where I started getting few crashes. Now I'm getting 1 crash everyday. There are times where I go to start my computer, but after the Windows logo I am left with a black screen. I usually keep restarting my computer until it turns on normally. I don't know why but I have a hunch that it might be PSU, temperature, or compatibility problems.I'm not sure if I've attached everything you need, so do let me know if I'm missing anything.
I've been getting these blue screens that occur while I am away from the computer almost exclusively. It happens occasionally while in use, but if I leave it I can be sure it will have crashed when I return.[code] Read our privacy statement online: Windows 7 Privacy Statement - Microsoft Windows..If the online privacy statement is not available, please read our privacy statement offline: C:Windowssystem32en-USerofflps.txt.
had just been using rockmelt browser(chromium) and the system screens went blank and the monitors reset but the aero was disabled so i re enabled aero and that's when it blue screened some kernel fault it said ,i thought the dump file was created so i turned of computer off i rebooted got passed the POST and all seemed ok with the ram and drives then the screens when blank and constant rapid beeping from motherboard speaker so i turned off pc. booted back up into safe mode looked for the memory dumps for the blue screen event but it does not seem to have recorded it rebooted from exit key POST was fine when windows tried to boot same rapid beeping from motherboard. turned off pc unplugged mains lead pressed power button let the pc rest while i made a cuppa. re plugged mains lead started pc up and went into POST ok and booted into windows ok. im now trying to trace events in event viewer and trying to find the dump files at this present time pc seems to be ok i ran a system report but nothing out of the ordinary.
I know you can change the background image on the shutdown and start up screen but can you you have different shutdown and logon screens in Windows 7? I want to leave the start up screen alone but have a custom shutdown screen. Also can you change the 'Shutting down..." to say something else?
