View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently had Windows 7 Pro installed onto my 80GB HDD. This was the only HDD plugged in when the installation too place.
Now, when I plug in either of my other internal HDDs, windows will not detect either. I have tried different jumper and IDE cable settings but it will not detect either of the other hard drives.
Also, while im thinking about it, what is the best way to set up in terms of HDDS and IDE cables and jumpers?
I guess windows 7 should be plugged into IDE 1 Primary Does it matter if i used IDE 1 secondary or IDE 2 primary/secdondary for disc drives and other internal hard drives? Should I have my windows HDD jumper set to 'master with slave' and any other HDD(s) set to 'slave'?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just recently updated from XP to 7 and everything was fine for a few weeks but that honeymoon seems to come to an end.
First symptom was that Messenger couldn't connect, and after a few days I uninstalled it and tried to re-install it. Well, the installer couldn't connect anywhere to get files and I decided to let it be.
Then I installed some new hardware and allowed Windows to connect somewhere to get the drivers (I don't usually do that, but with this hardware it has allways worked well) and it couldn't find anywhing this time. I just thought that 'well, windows, it's allways a different battle' and got the drivers from the hardware manufacturer.
Now I would really like to get the Messenger up and running again and tried to look at it again. I thought maybe I should do a windows update first and off I went. At this point I realized that the problem lies deeper than Live Essentials / Messenger. After just 1 or 2 seconds the update tells that some updates (=none) couldn't be installed + error code 8007273D which 'surprisingly'
From day 1 I've had Zonealarm and Avast! running, I've also tried with them turned on but no help.
Earlier today I uninstalled a small utility off of the system disc ("C" ) and immediately my Windows 7 system would no longer recognize my other two internal HDD's. Upon a restart, Windows again sees that there are drives there but has issues. At first I thought none of the programs would run, but upon starting Starcraft 2, I watched the sc2.exe file in take manager tick up the megs resident in memory. It took about 7 minutes before reaching 100 megs in memory then the screen went black as if the game was about to start up. At this point I'm watching on my second monitor (w/ task manager) the program loaded a full 125megs before slowing down.
I was never able to get it to start up and it does this every time. The same is true for any other program installed on that drive. I can browse it just fine and everything is where it should be -- I've tried running the .exe from the directory itself with the same result.I'm no Guru, but I'm fairly good with computers and have never seen anything even remotely close to this. I don't know if the uninstall is related, but it seems likely as it was right as that finished.

How can I make this notification 'silent'? (or disable the notification altogether)

It does not happen on any set routine or anything, just randomly. If I restart I do not get the drive back, however, If I shut it down and plug the drive into a different port it recognizes it again. I've gone back to the same port numerous times so none of the ports are bad.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire One Nav 50 with windows 7 starter 32 bit. I recently did something stupid and ended up having to completely re-install windows. The Wireless works sometimes but it usually is not working. It basically seems like it is turned off, it shows that there are no networks available even though there are. I have used Device Manager to update the drivers a few times. I also deleted the drivers and let them re-install like that. It is an Atheros AR5B93.The internal SD card doesn't work at all. When i put a card in nothing happens and it doesn't show up in "Computer". But When i have a card in it and go to device manager it shows up under "Other Device" (something like that) and the number UB6250. I've tried updating the drivers for every USB Device that shows up in device manager.Everything works ok except the wireless and the internal SD reader. I had no problems with them before the reinstall of windows. The normal USB ports work fine. Windows is at SP1.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI need some direction (or reassurance) about setting up a new Win 7 system using an older Win 7 user folder.I had Win 7 Ultimate on an HP with the user folders on a separate internal drive. The HP died; the drive with the user folders is intact.his user folder has almost 400 GB of data that we need to keep as is. (My wife's a video producer with several projects in work.)I bought a new Lenovo with Win 7 Home Premium. I set up user accounts (on the system drive) and then added the drive with the HP user accounts. I made the necessary registry changes to access the added drive for user folders. Upon booting, I checked the properties of my user folder on the drive I added and it reported 0 bytes!! I didn't want to risk losing that data so I shut it down. My original user folder still has everything I want and need.
I know the user folder has data for my applications. Is there data in the user folder specific for the computer I'm on? If so, what do I merge from the Lenovo user folder with my big user folder? If not, was the "0 byte report" a fluke? Also, would I be better off installing all my applications before incorporating this big user folder? I have not yet installed the Adobe software that will be using most of the data in the user folder.
