1) Do you think it would be best to use this new drive as C: or main drive? Or to use it as storage and keep C: as is?
2) If used as main drive, are there issues installing Win7 on it and already having a Win7 install on another hard drive?
3) suggested improvements for video card upgrade.
I have a Toshiba Satellite L505-S6946 running on Windows 7. None of the system volumes are on mute, the speakers properties lie and say it's working properly, I've already reinstalled device driver software, and restored Windows to an earlier date...though, no dice. I'm not totally sure what my other options are..

The only way was to restart the computer.

may i know if there is any remedy to this ?
I have a three yr old hp Pavillion desktop. HD has totally conked out. Was going to just get a new one, but was wondering about the feasibility, and ease, of just replacing the HD. What am I letting myself In for ?
It looks like it will cost me around $ 100 to buy a new drive, so it will be a pricey experiment if it does not work out. Lost a lot of the paperwork, so am not fully sure as to what,is in it now. I looked inside, and apparently it is a Seagate 1 TB drive. 7200 rpm. SATA, 3 GB/sec
Has the dimensions of approx. width of 4 inches and depth of 6 inches. Is this what is called a 3-1/2 inch drive ? So, what do you think ? Worth a try ?
Will the electronics in this 3 yr old pc support a new hd with its built in new electronics O.K. ?
If I decide to try just replacing the drive, what should I buy ? What should I be aware of In regards to buying a hd for my old pc ? And, do they come pre-formatted ? If not how is this handled ?
Are there still master-slave jumpers that need to be set on the new hd ? After installation, do,I just run the "Restore" disk set of 3 disks to get Windows 7 on it again ? Do these restore disks that I created when I first got the pc have Windows 7 already on it ?
Not all that sharp with this stuff, but am a retired Engr., so reasonably comfortable with this kind of thing. Still, I would not really want to dump $100 if there are lots of potential pitfalls and caveats I am not considering.
I have 3 internal hard drives and am trying to add a 4th. The ones that I have are a 1TB (Boot), a 2TB MBR, and a 3TB MBR. When I try to install the 2nd 3TB one and go into Disk Management to create the partitions, it only shows this 4th HD as being 746.52GB! In fact, I have already returned one to the store thinking there was something wrong with the drive but obviously it was not
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had a 2 TB, and 3TB Seagate Go HDs and decided they would be best used as internal drives, turns out they both crashed completely upon SATA connection in the motherboard, I first guessed probably due to the difference in boot record. Upon reformatting in NTFS, I have found that the drives run very sluggish, I have been debating on just buying a new USB drive and copying my files, then getting rid of these 2 HDs. This doesn't make sense to me as I used to think all HDs were the same, does anyone know any reason why these 2 external drives are killing my system performance after they were made into internal drives (also why would they completely crash before).
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter numerous attempts, Windows install keeps stalling at the "expanding Window's files" screen, then cancels the install. (Bios checks ok, disk has no scratches, and both DVD writers return the same results.)To help prove the integrity of the SSD (still under warranty) I would like to now try doing a temp OS install on another internal HDD. There are 2 of those, each with data on them. Each HDD has only one large partition, as in drive D & drive R.What is the detailed procedure in preparing one of those HDDs in order to accept a temporary OS install, while still preserving the existing data on that physical disk? I must also be able to identify which disk is which (new partition?) when it comes to finding the "new" disk when loading the Windows 7 install software?

I have a multi-function card reader installed in my computer and it will not read any of the flash cards I have, this card reader has USB connection on the front which works fine. I am attaching a screen shot it is the generic USB Hub right under Universal Serial Bus controllers that is the cause of this problem. As you can see the the Sony cam USB device on this hub is working fine, but I cannot plug in any CF Flash XD or SD or MS flash card to the reader they are not seen. I have disabled the reader restarted the computer no luck. I am sure it is a realtek card reader I have tried installing latest driver from realtek with no luck. This was working fine in the past in fact the realtek drivers also worked and showed up in device manager.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed Windows 7 Ultimate on a newly formatted scsi drive that carried designator "D"(the existing "C" was a smaller SCSI that I wanted to get rid of) I removed the old "C" drive and installed another new scsi(identical to the new boot drive). The second drive was recognized but did not get a letter assignment. I configured the second new drive as mirror to the other("D"). Worked fine except that the second drive was also asigned "D" in the process, and seems to be working fine and has been successfully loaded as a mirror. I want to change the designator of the first (or either one, really) to "C". When I try to do that to either one, I get the flag: "the parameter is incorrect". View 4 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from Win XP to Windows 7 64 bit about a month ago (I did a clean install as I've always had issues with in place upgrades). My machine has four hard drives total, two internal SATA drives, and two external USB drives. For some reason my secondary internal drive, a WD 500 GB SATA drive (nothing fancy), keeps disappearing randomly while windows is running. This started about a week ago, it ran ok for the first 2 weeks or so.The drive comes back fine and dandy if I completely shut down the machine and then boot it back up. The drive stays until some random moment when Windows doesn't see it anymore. Now, if I do a simple Restart the drive doesn't show up, ONLY after I shut down completely, and push the power button back on, does this work. There is nothing in the System logs, no error messages, nothing, it just vanishes and is completely random.

I have HP Pavillion desktop, Win 7 Home Premium, 3.0GHz, 4GB ram, 640GB hd, an open PCI Express slot on my motherboard. According to our local cable provider, I must use their DVR to locate channel, and for programmed recording. Thus the computer tuner would only be used on ch 3 or 4 (like in the old days) to connect with computer.
