View 6 RepliesI noticed couple of times that i don't see one of my drives in the Computer window. It also not showing up in the Disk Management window. I didn't know the cause till now. I tried reseating the cables and some other suggestions online with no luck.
Today i noticed the cause: If i am connecting a USB memory or external HDD to the front USB panel it disappears. Disconnecting it (the USB component) won't show the drive back in the list.
I have:
120GB SSD as my C drive.
1TB HDD as D drive.
2TB HDD as E drive.
All are SATA.
The D drive is the one that gets disappear.
Ive got a samsung 1tb/5400rpm/8m) i need the driver to load in on insall of windows 7.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just recently updated from XP to 7 and everything was fine for a few weeks but that honeymoon seems to come to an end.
First symptom was that Messenger couldn't connect, and after a few days I uninstalled it and tried to re-install it. Well, the installer couldn't connect anywhere to get files and I decided to let it be.
Then I installed some new hardware and allowed Windows to connect somewhere to get the drivers (I don't usually do that, but with this hardware it has allways worked well) and it couldn't find anywhing this time. I just thought that 'well, windows, it's allways a different battle' and got the drivers from the hardware manufacturer.
Now I would really like to get the Messenger up and running again and tried to look at it again. I thought maybe I should do a windows update first and off I went. At this point I realized that the problem lies deeper than Live Essentials / Messenger. After just 1 or 2 seconds the update tells that some updates (=none) couldn't be installed + error code 8007273D which 'surprisingly'
From day 1 I've had Zonealarm and Avast! running, I've also tried with them turned on but no help.
My cd/dvd writer just seemed to stop working. I can burn photos or music onto a disc but when I try to look at it it just says disc is blank.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a portable with windows xp installed on together with pointsec security software. I decided to install windows 7 on an external e-sata harddisk to keep my work harddisk (xp) apart from my personal harddisk (windows 7).Now I can't boot anymore with the internal windows xp because windows 7 seems to have overwritten some boot files on the internal HD altough I did tell windows 7 to only install on the external HD. I guess that windows 7 installs it's bootloader on the internal harddisk. How I can I restore the original bootloader to the internal HD? Please note pointsec security software was installed on the internal harddisk.

View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday I had a PC technician around to see why my PC was not booting-up properly and also to change my SSD to a larger SSD. As I am visually challenged I cannot do hardware upgrades etc, so I got a Techie guy in. We used Zinstall HDD by-the-way and I would highly recommend this application for such a job plus, it is extremely fast.Anyway, while he was diagnosing my boot-up issue he discovered I had a malfunctioning network card; while removing this, he noticed all the SATA settings were set to SATA 2.When he reset these to SATA 3, the PC would not start-up! When he set them again to SATA 2 there was no problem and it worked fine?

1) Do you think it would be best to use this new drive as C: or main drive? Or to use it as storage and keep C: as is?
2) If used as main drive, are there issues installing Win7 on it and already having a Win7 install on another hard drive?
3) suggested improvements for video card upgrade.
I have a Toshiba Satellite L505-S6946 running on Windows 7. I have a three yr old hp Pavillion desktop. HD has totally conked out. Was going to just get a new one, but was wondering about the feasibility, and ease, of just replacing the HD. What am I letting myself In for ?
It looks like it will cost me around $ 100 to buy a new drive, so it will be a pricey experiment if it does not work out. Lost a lot of the paperwork, so am not fully sure as to what,is in it now. I looked inside, and apparently it is a Seagate 1 TB drive. 7200 rpm. SATA, 3 GB/sec
Has the dimensions of approx. width of 4 inches and depth of 6 inches. Is this what is called a 3-1/2 inch drive ? So, what do you think ? Worth a try ?
Will the electronics in this 3 yr old pc support a new hd with its built in new electronics O.K. ?
If I decide to try just replacing the drive, what should I buy ? What should I be aware of In regards to buying a hd for my old pc ? And, do they come pre-formatted ? If not how is this handled ?
Are there still master-slave jumpers that need to be set on the new hd ? After installation, do,I just run the "Restore" disk set of 3 disks to get Windows 7 on it again ? Do these restore disks that I created when I first got the pc have Windows 7 already on it ?
Not all that sharp with this stuff, but am a retired Engr., so reasonably comfortable with this kind of thing. Still, I would not really want to dump $100 if there are lots of potential pitfalls and caveats I am not considering.
I have 3 internal hard drives and am trying to add a 4th. The ones that I have are a 1TB (Boot), a 2TB MBR, and a 3TB MBR. When I try to install the 2nd 3TB one and go into Disk Management to create the partitions, it only shows this 4th HD as being 746.52GB! In fact, I have already returned one to the store thinking there was something wrong with the drive but obviously it was not
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had a 2 TB, and 3TB Seagate Go HDs and decided they would be best used as internal drives, turns out they both crashed completely upon SATA connection in the motherboard, I first guessed probably due to the difference in boot record. Upon reformatting in NTFS, I have found that the drives run very sluggish, I have been debating on just buying a new USB drive and copying my files, then getting rid of these 2 HDs. This doesn't make sense to me as I used to think all HDs were the same, does anyone know any reason why these 2 external drives are killing my system performance after they were made into internal drives (also why would they completely crash before).
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter numerous attempts, Windows install keeps stalling at the "expanding Window's files" screen, then cancels the install. (Bios checks ok, disk has no scratches, and both DVD writers return the same results.)To help prove the integrity of the SSD (still under warranty) I would like to now try doing a temp OS install on another internal HDD. There are 2 of those, each with data on them. Each HDD has only one large partition, as in drive D & drive R.What is the detailed procedure in preparing one of those HDDs in order to accept a temporary OS install, while still preserving the existing data on that physical disk? I must also be able to identify which disk is which (new partition?) when it comes to finding the "new" disk when loading the Windows 7 install software?
