View 1 Replies View RelatedWhat's the best type of DVD to use for read-only and read/write applications? I'm a little out-of-date on this, haven't bought any in awhile. I remember things like DVD-R/RW and DVD+RW and such. I have a new machine running Win7, and an older laptop running XP.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI can't read or write discs. I'm using Windows Media Player to burn some music to a CD and it gets to 30% on the second track and the disc stops spinning and I get an error saying the drive is busy. I can erase the discs, but I can't burn them or read them.
There is as far as I can see, no errors on the disc drive itself.
Using:
Dell Inspiron 1545
3GB RAM
Optiarc DVD+RW AD-7585H
OK so since I have installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 on this computer ( it is the first operating system installed on it) I can not write any DVDs .A strange fact is that I can write and read CDs and also read DVDs, but not every time.I got an original CD Album and it's still not recognized by the PC for example, and this happens to many audio CDs.I tried many registry tricks and stuff like that but in vain. The computer is new, bought it one month ago. DVD+RW - Sony Optiaric AD-7260SI also tired to resolve the problem with FixIt but it was also useless.I kept getting the message: "The disc in drive [E:] is not detected, or is not supported"

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have 4gb and 16gb kingston DT 101 usb....both had slow read & write speeds on fat32(defulat format)..
-write speed 4-6mb/sec
-read speed 25mb/sec appx
When i format it to NTFS, it writes initially at 100mb/s and then suddenly slows down to appx 15-20mb/s... and sometimes it gets stuck somwhere in the middle or on 99% and when i cancel it it start cancelling but doesnt end up, and end ups by removing usb or by logging off... when i copy from usb to harddisk in ntfs format, its working f9...
(I have dell inspiron n5520 core i5, 4gb ram, with win 7 ultimate 64bit... my laptop has usb 3.0 ports (all 4 ports).... i have updated drivers and windows... i have also set my usb to better performance from device manager... there is no problem sign in device manager)
how to check usb read and write speed?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen attempting to write to any USB drive I have connected (including a 1GB USB key and a 1TB Eagle Consus S-ATA Raid0) I initially see the transfer going very quickly as Windows 7 caches the transfer. The speed initially goes to 60MB/s and then the bar stops moving. If I wait, the transfer never completes with a 1GB test file.
I cannot cancel the transfer, since it says Cancelling but never completes. Only a reboot or disconnecting my drive stops the transfer process. While attempting to transfer, any attempt to read from the drive stalls as well.
Read speed is normal. I can access files on the drive, and copy from the USB -> Windows 7 at full speed.
Here are the things I have done to fix the problem:
1) Set the drive to Performance Mode to enable write caching.
2) Uninstalled and re-installed the USB Root Controller and Intel USB Controller devices.
3) Upgraded to the latest Intel Device Drivers.
4) Ensured that my USB ports are 2.0, and that I am connected to the rear powered USB outlets.
5) Installed the Windows 7 hotfix intended for NVIDIA chipsets with 4GB RAM (does not apply to me, but tried anyways).
6) Tried formatting in 16K block sizes instead of 4K or 8K.
When I connect either USB device to my Macbook Pro, with NTFS drivers installed, my read and write speed are normal. For that reason, I know that the problem is not with my USB drives.
Tonite I will try an Ubuntu live CD to see if I can get full speed write with the exact same hardware that Windows 7 is using, to rule out that this is somehow a hardware issue.
I have recently installed 7 and made my Vista partition visible. However, I am unable to write to the partition. Ex) I am able to view a text file on the Vista partition while running 7, but I am not able to modify the text file. Etc with other files. Does anyone have a solution to this?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have 2 drives (connected one at a time to try and sort this issue) SONY AD-7260S and a LITE-ON
Now from upgarding to XP to 7 I had no issues until now... When inserting Disc (Blank or Data Files) the DVD Drive will hang and not ask what to do with the Disk and when I try to Burn the disc it will say cannot write to drive or just sit there doing nothing
Both these drives worked flawlessly with XP and only way to get the drive to recognise half the time with Windows 7 is to restart PC to either get it to show in Device Manager or press eject when booting to get the disk inside out.
Both drives are Sata and are only a few months old (not burned much and work exceeelnet on another xp machine)
How can I reorganize / read / write / move / unlock and basically do whatever the heck I want with my files and folders in Win7? It is my computer, I am the only user, and yet when I create a folder, the stupid Windows locks it and won't let me save stuff in the folder, or access stuff in the folder, etc, etc. What do I have to do to get back control of my computer?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI can not write any media to disk. Well....that is a lie. I DID manage to make a backup of my cpu files using Dell's backup program.I did it just to see if my internal drive was operational. I can use the drive to view media. I just cannot add media to a disk. It is not the disk themselves as I have used them on many occasions. I have updated the drive. Uninstalled the drive and reinstalled it.Manually installed updates to the drive. I even connected an external drive and cannot write media using this device.
Dell XPS L501X
WINDOWS 7 64-BIT
Drive is HL-GT-TS DVD+-RW GT32N
I used alchol 120% to burn a dvd rw and then after some time wanted to burn something else on it. but while formatting there is an error message saying " disk is write protected".With windows 7 ultimate i was able to rightclick and format the disk again i burn the same disk with my laptop having windows 7 home premium.
