I use Transcend external DVDwriter Modell TS8X DVDR-K on Dell Inspiron 1520 In Windows, there is no problem and i use it easily, but the bios does not recognize it and i can t boot any cd from it. I am saying that bios does not detect my external hard drive, but only my original dvd- rom.And as i said, windows detects it easily , but not Bios !

i have Acer computer,was working fine ,yesterday frozen while iam at net, and i turnoff by pressing holding the power buttom, after that comes message: reboot and select proper device i couldnt open the recovery by pressing f10 and the hard drive and the dvd missing from bios not detected.

But then I started getting Machine Check Exceptions and my motherboard ultimately perished. So I replaced that with a Foxconn K8S755A-6ELRS. But this new motherboard won't detect the hard drive.
It will hang at the part that says "Detecting IDE drives", sometimes it will give up and display "0" where the drive is supposed to be, other times it will hang until you unplug the cable.
If it's on the same channel as the Hitachi drive with XP on it, the BIOS recognizes the other drive, but fails to boot from it. If they are on different channels, it boots the XP drive but will see no hint of the drive on the other channel., even in Disk Management or Device Manager.
I also tried connecting it to my other computer's Intel DP35DP mobo, and it was able to detect/read/write and all that, though it does have a few bad sectors.
THE TITLE IS MY QUESTION...DRIVE HAD VISTA ON IT FOR YRS BOOTED WIN 7 CD AND CHOOSE TO DELETE PARTITIONS..I LET IT CREATE THE BACK UP PARTITIONS WITH 12GBG A 100mb AND THEN THE NISTALLATION PORTION..I INSTALLED..AFTER A REBOOT..DRIVE NEVER DETECTED AGAIN...WHEN ITS PLUGGED IN IOT FREEZES MY BOOT UP..CANT ACCCESS BIOS WHEN DRIVE PLUGGED IN..UNPLUG SERIAL CABLE..ALL IS WELL.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have posted in other forums with no luck.I bought a Samsung SH-D162D DVD Drive in a USB enclosure to connect to my Toshiba laptop via USB.I cannot get windows 7 to find it! When I plug in the USB cable the balloon comes up to say it has been installed (sometimes), I can see it on for about 1 or 2 minutes then it drops off. It isnt listed in my hardware or anything.Its not found in Disk Management or My Devices so it isnt a case of changing the drive letter - i cant find the drive to change it.I have also tried to find the upper and lower settings in regedit....couldnt find them so couldnt delete them as advised in other posts of this nature.It is set to master, the IDE connector and power connectors are fine. Its gotta be a windows 7 problem cause it does show up very breifly. In the minute or 2 its there I cant do anything with it...it just hangs although it will open and close. Ive googled it and cant find anything.Ive also connected it up to another laptop with XP and had no problems so I know the DVD Rom works fine and all the cables are ok.Ive tried in all 4 USB ports on my laptop and also turned off all energy settings...all with no luck. And I also have EVERY windows 7 update.
Heres exactly what happens from power off on the enclosure.
1 - I plug in the USB lead then turn on power to the enclosure.
2 - I quickly go to Start, and I can see the DVD Rom drive E next to my laptops dvd rom.
3 - The green bar at the top starts filling up from left to right and gets about half way then suddenly the DVD Rom icon disappears and so does the green bar.
4 - It then flashes up under the laptops DVD Rom icon with a Local Disk drive E but only for a split second.
5 - Sometimes a balloon comes up saying installing device, then device successfully installed...but not every time.
As you can see in the title the external recieves power but computers do not detect it whatsoever. This is a friends HD that has personal pictures and videos from deployment and its important to me that we recover them for him.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI was on vacation for 1 month and after that my PC suddenly did a check to 1 of my HDD's (Samsung 1000GB HDD - My storage drive that sometimes I just don't see in system anymore and system restore fixes the problem usually). After that check, my PC worked fine whole day, but the next day i Turn it on (After installing about 7-8 Important windows updates) I don't see my Samsung HDD, So I thought it's a usual problem that I have, I notice that the only restore points I have are from year 2011... That didn't suit me and I thought why do I have restore points so far behind ? But then I notice 1 more important update if I shut down my PC, So I thought it might fix the problem and maybe create another restore point for me. That's where I shut down my PC and start it again. Now it takes a lot longer in my BIOS and I notice that it doesn't detect any of my HDD's and asks for boot disk after that. Now I'm clueless what to do, since the problem I had was only with 1 HDD that had lesser rpm than my other one that i use for my system (Also it was the cheapest 1000GB HDD that I have seen long time ago and seems to have a lot of problems)

I haven't tried anything much other than pressing delete key and configuring BIOS... they were set to default nothing helped there + It doesn't detect multiple HDD's. the PSU is new and probably had same Voltage or even more I don't remember exactly which one of those.
My Acer netbook has developed some kind of fault and I am unsure as to what I ought to do. The netbook does boot to BIOS and also will boot up from an external drive...but will not boot normally. I am thinking of replacing the hard drive but don't know if there could be something else wrong. It says sometimes that it can't read it and from this I am not sure if there is something else wrong. If I change the drive does it sound as though things will work? There are also a couple of other intermittent faults such as certain letters and numbers not working and then everything is fine for a while...

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got an Acer Model As5742 Laptop with an i5 480M processor and 8 GB of good Ram. I'm running Win 7 Pro 64 Bit. It's only about 5 months old and this started about a month ago. I have no other problems. IE: Blue Screens or Lockups or anything, just the Bios clock changes to a random date and time after every restart. I replaced the Bios battery twice and it only effects the chore of having to reset the time in Windows every time I boot.
I'm going to send it to Acer to be repaired within a week or two, but maybe it's not a bad timing mechanism in the motherboard and one of you people have a correct solution to it. Which will save me the trouble of sending it in for a motherboard replacement.
I do have all the drivers and bios updates installed. Oh yes I've ran about 15 different virus Etc. Malware scans with several different products and they all come back clean. I ran System File Checker SFC /scannow from the command prompt several times that also comes back OK.
so i did a bios update, and it wont boot after the update.its a asus m4a79xtd evo (rev 1.01g)i dont have a backup of the bios
