My external hard disk has been acting up i.e it would take time to load some documents. So I decided to perform the Check disk options. This has been going on for the last 3 days and am thinking of cancelling the process because it seems to be stuck and it is not even 20% done. What will be the consequences of cancelling it?

When I turned it on last Friday, the Windows logo showed for around 5 minutes then the BSOD flashes. Technical information:UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME 0x000000ED (0x87E0D798, 0xC0000183). I put in a repair disk and chose to use cmd so that I can chkdsk /r C:. After it successfully checked, I decided to also chkdsk D: so I wouldn't need to go past the recovery options menu again. It took around 5 hours before my maid unplugged it while cleaning, so it died while I was eating. I charged it somewhere else when my brother discharged it to use the desktop computer. He said that it said "Deleting index entry from index $0 of ... 25" when it died again. When I booted it again, it still shows the windows logo for 5 minutes but restarts with no blue screen

The hard drive started to fail (chkdsk showed bad sectors, S.M.A.R.T. test failed, etc.) so I got a replacement drive on warranty from Lenovo, put it in, reinstalled Win 7 and about 150 updates, restored my backed-up data, and reinstalled several applications.At some point in that tedious process, chkdsk started running on almost every reboot. I have run chkdsk /r both normally and from the Restore Environment.

I did a CHKDSK and it had some bad sectors and plenty of file corruption. Ran the Hitachi DFT software and it seemed to think it has rescued it, but I'm using another drive now just in case.
Luckily I could still access my e-mails when I accessed the drive from another system, and everything else is backed up via Acronis.
I have an Acer Iconia W500 that came preinstalled with Windows 7 32bit Home Premium. I made recovery discs from the tablet before installing Windows 8 on it, which runs great. What I would like to do, if possible, is to use those Windows 7 restore discs and restore them to an external hard drive and be able to boot from it and run the original Windows 7 that came preinstalled. The reason I am wanting to do this, as there were some programs, drivers, and other things that I cannot download from Acer or retrieve from the restore discs, and can only access from the OS if it is actually running.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have installed windows 7 x64, the installation went fine, it runs fine, no bsods, no crashes, no restarts, no freezes, no slowdown. Basically it just runs fine, all updates installed fine.
Now, I did a scan on the HDD, and it has bad sectors pending. I imaged the windows to another HDD.Loaded onto the other HDD, it boots fine, runs fine, idles fine, installed a few things, checked the files system, ran chkdsk ( just fix box, not the second box to repair ), all OK.So my question is, how can I know if the bad sectors on old HDD had any damage to the windows installation, and thus on the new HDD?
I recently dropped my laptop and ever since i got errors and had problems booting my computer. So i reinstalled windows 7 and everything seems to work except I'm having trouble with the performance of my pc. It randomly runs really slow and every time i restart it the check disc starts to run and i have to bypass it. View 3 Replies View RelatedI had a perfectly working 250GB SATA HDD that I tried to clone to a 1 TB SATA HDD. I used EASEUS's free disk copy software. The clone said it would tas the one being cloned and not written to. The cloned drive had the data on it, but it was just corrupted because the clone never finished. I tried to get into recovery console from the Windows 7 CD, and it kept sayike about an hour and 20 minutes, and I read that it would be quicker, as all the free space would not need to clone over sector by sector. I aborted so that I could use different software that would quick clone. Anyway, afterwards, neither HDD would boot. The source drive should boot, as all it wang it was the wrong version. Basically the program screwed up both my hard drives.
Finally, I was able to get into a UEFI recovery console that allowed me to see that the cloning program somehow changed my partitions into GPT. The source hard drive is all intact, and I'm pretty sure the only thing that is screwed up is the partition types and perhaps the boot record. Is there a way I can edit the partitions to make them back to normal and bootable again?

My acer laptop using windows 7 will not startup. When I start laptop it start running. While window black screen is running a blur box window comes up stating hard disk security in this screen it state it is locked. The only way to get out of this screen is to hit esc the only thing working is the F2 I can use this change settings what ever. However, none of the F12 recovery will complete.

I do have a recent Windows-created System Image on a USB-Network drive, however all attempts at utilizing such have been unsuccessful. After navigating to the System Image Restore function from either my repair CD, or my OEM Windows CD, then selecting Search for image on the network function, then entering the full network address [\readyshareusb_storagelarrydelldesktopbackupwindowsimagebackupdell_desktopackup 2012-11-18 170013], then entering my network credentials, the system seems to search the location, but returns me to a blank "select the location of the backup you want to restore" screen.
Related problem... thinking the C-drive was toast, and knowing I have an OEM Windows-7 CD, I bought a new 3-TB drive. Installed the drive, attempted to do a clean-fresh system install on the new drive, and Win-7 tells me it can not install windows because of some hardware incompatibility issue. Since nothing was changed from the previously working Win-7 installation on this system, except the new 3TB hard drive..
I can either go with the backup system image, or clean install of Win-7 to the new drive to get me back up an running. I would actually prefer to install the backup image to the NEW drive, if possible.

The backup drive is FULLY BOOTABLE, I've been booting into Windows 7 from an eSata external interface with no issues. So I restarted my computer and it gave me an option to repair start up option and once the repair finished it said it has failed to solve the issue and it pop up a Windows System Recovery which is always good if I wanted to restore it to the factory state unfortunately I have about 30 GB more or less data on this laptop that is basically my life and wanted to retrieve the data.
It also gave me an option for command prompt so i went and run "chkdsk" it got to 49% and from there it kept on listing the entries on the disk and numbers that its got errors on, I didn't quiet finished the disk check and turned my laptop off. Reason being it was 4 AM in the morning. I have been using my laptop for over 2-3 years and by use I mean it has been online almost 80% of the time more or less.
Is it hard drive failure? If so is there a way I could retrieve any data from it? I know there are software that you can boot from CD or USB to salvage what ever data is left or readable, however the data is somewhat precious to me and dont want to do further damage. I would have gone to an professional and gave it to them but I can't afford it. I'm going to change the hard drive into a different laptop to check if its truely an hard drive problem related.
I have a Gateway computer that came preloaded with Windows 7.
I am replacing the internal hard drive and I am attempting to install the factory system recovery image from the system recovery disc that I made when I bought the computer. After installing the drive and booting up from the recovery disc, I go into full factory recovery but when I go in to the option to "restore to factory default" the option is grayed out. Do I need to format the drive first? How do I do this outside of windows?
My hard drive crashed on my laptop. Before It crashed, It gave me a hard drive warning of imminent failure, and gave me an option to create recovery disks. I ended up creating 11 disks from the option. I installed the new hard drive and the BIOS reads that it will boot from the internal optical drive first. When I insert the first CD and start then computer, it continues to read "Operating system not found". When I look at the CD in another computer, it reads three files and one folder. The first file is an icon file which reads "Setup", the next is a "Media" bin file, and the last is an autorun setup information file. The last is a folder that contains various other backup files. My computer did not come with any copies of windows.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a HP Pavilion laptop which came with Windows 7 Home Preinstalled. On the back of the laptop is a coa product key. Recently the hard drive failed. I was told that I could easily get a new drive which I have done and I have run the system test and the new drive passes. However although I have a HP system recovery cd, i do not have any installation cd's for windows as HP don't give you any.
I've tried using the recovery cd but as the new hard drive has never had windows 7 on it, it refuses to work.
What do i do now? Why don't HP give away the software with their computers. It seems fairly logical that maybe one day in the future you might need to install a new hard drive. I'm not exactly enthused about paying for the software when I clearly have a legal key on the back of the laptop.
The model is 532h. The hard drive went bad so I replaced it with a brand new hard drive that's smaller in size (120GB vs original 160GB). I first cloned the recovery partition "PQSERVICE" to the new hard drive and then install it, ran alt+F10 but it shows "no bootable device". Alt + F10 worked with the old hard drive and the recovery ran fine but because the drive is bad it gave an error at the end. With the new hard drive the alt+F10 doesn't work at all. I checked in the BIOS and it's there. I changed the partition type to active but still get the same error. I finally use the recovery disk, wiped out everything and the recovery went through till the end (it said successfully) but after reboot I still get "no bootable device" error.
