May 8, 2012
My acer laptop using windows 7 will not startup. When I start laptop it start running. While window black screen is running a blur box window comes up stating hard disk security in this screen it state it is locked. The only way to get out of this screen is to hit esc the only thing working is the F2 I can use this change settings what ever. However, none of the F12 recovery will complete.
i have a hard drive, but the problem is, my little brother set up a password on it.. i think he messed with the bios, and he forgot the password he set, and i got all my important data in it.. i tried to remove the hard disk and try to access it from another computer, but the hard disk is still protected by the password, and i reset the BIOS but password rested
I am running windows 7 64 bit, on an eMachines lap top, I have purchased an external HDD and now I am trying to create a perfect copy of my system. I used DriveImage XML but it failed. I have used this program in the past with great success on a different computer running WindowsXP.The failure I get is "failed to lock drive". I've tried skipping the lock drive option and going straight to shadow copy; same problem.I can only assume the failure to lock drive is based on permissions and files being in use. So I think I need to attempt this without loading windows. Is there anyway of running a "free" drive cloning program from a DVD or USB Flash drive without booting into Windows?I would just bit torrent a win7 OS, install it on my external, and run the program from their, but I don't want to have to resort to law breaking, and I have never run linux.
Also I tried using a "backup" feature on Paragon Partition Manager, it did "backup" the system, but it didn't clone the drive. All the backup files are written in directories such as "C:/archive/" and thus I assume there is no way of booting into a system written that way. I assume it's like windows system restore, and what I need is a bootable image of my primary drive.Oh and I should clarify, that it's not my external drive that fails to lock; the external HDD has been formatted, partitioned, and can read and write data just fine, and has way more than enough room to copy the HDD in my lap top. Also, the HDD on my lap top has 1 primary partition, with two logical partitions. I have no idea what the logical partitions are for and if that could be causing the problem.
I have an Acer Iconia W500 that came preinstalled with Windows 7 32bit Home Premium. I made recovery discs from the tablet before installing Windows 8 on it, which runs great. What I would like to do, if possible, is to use those Windows 7 restore discs and restore them to an external hard drive and be able to boot from it and run the original Windows 7 that came preinstalled. The reason I am wanting to do this, as there were some programs, drivers, and other things that I cannot download from Acer or retrieve from the restore discs, and can only access from the OS if it is actually running.
What software or way to format the hard drive data, making it safe to delete data no recovery possible. Such as DBAN, but erased too long. I tested a 160G hard disk data erase, with six hours or so
The model is 532h. The hard drive went bad so I replaced it with a brand new hard drive that's smaller in size (120GB vs original 160GB). I first cloned the recovery partition "PQSERVICE" to the new hard drive and then install it, ran alt+F10 but it shows "no bootable device". Alt + F10 worked with the old hard drive and the recovery ran fine but because the drive is bad it gave an error at the end. With the new hard drive the alt+F10 doesn't work at all. I checked in the BIOS and it's there. I changed the partition type to active but still get the same error. I finally use the recovery disk, wiped out everything and the recovery went through till the end (it said successfully) but after reboot I still get "no bootable device" error.
I have changed the permissions for the access of files and folders in the security tab of given in the properties of the Hard Disk Partition. Now I other users of the same computer cannot access the drive or make changes there. I tried hard to solve the problem but the output is "Access Denied". Any way to make this permissions to its default(or The normal state which it was). My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate x64
to create a recovery media on WD external HDD of Windows 7 from the recovery partition on my sony vaio VPCEH25EN laptop. i'm unable to do so from VAIO CARE since it only asks for an optical drive or USB flash drive, so it's not detecting it as a usb flash drive.
I accidentally reinstalled the wrong Operating System Recovery CD on my Acer Aspire 5534 laptop, and I want to return it back to factory settings. How do I do I restore it back to factory settings?

So my whole family loves getting on my laptop even though we have a family computer. I've got my passwords set and all but sometimes I forget to close the lid and it stays up. Is there any software that I can put on one of my baby 1GB Flash Drives to use as kind of a key to access Windows?
I have an ACER Asprie 57347, recovery disc doesn't work. Every thing I read says hold down ALT then keep hitting F10, all that does is make the laptop beep.
My external hard disk has been acting up i.e it would take time to load some documents. So I decided to perform the Check disk options. This has been going on for the last 3 days and am thinking of cancelling the process because it seems to be stuck and it is not even 20% done. What will be the consequences of cancelling it?
