View 1 RepliesI have had xp for a long time on a custom computer. Recently I contracted a virus (namely the xp antivirus 2012 system virus). I decided to reformat the hard drive, as I do not have the original xp discs, I bought windows 7 (the full version, not upgrade). While trying to install windows 7 and subsequently reformat the hard drive, the installation program can not detect any hard disk whatsoever.
Another problem is that the virus has corrupted my computer to the point where I cannot even load xp. All my computer is currently good for is watching it try to load.
I have a 2.8 Ghz, P4 processor with 768 (512 + 256) MB ram and an Asus p5rd1-vm motherboard with a 128 MB ATI-Radeon Graphics Card. I have been running Windows XP for years. I have decided to upgrade to Windows 7 finally after reading all the reviews. However, During installation, my hard disk is not being detected (There is no drive on screen which I can format or set up on.) Can anyone help? Do I need to update my BIOS?Also, I recently changed my hard disk (upgraded it) and XP has been installed and is running fine.

The drives are not even showing on disk management. The lights on the hard disk do light up with I plug them in but nothing happens.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently, I've got a Samsung SyncMaster 2043NWX monitor. It's an used one, but it did work. My computer is an Acer Aspire M3920 (desktop), a more complete configuration can be found in my profile.
My desktop PC connects to my main monitor, an Acer P196HQV via an HDMI to DVI connnector, and my desktop PC connects to my second monitor, the SyncMaster, via VGA.
The problem is, however, the second monitor doesn't work. Windows 7 does detect a monitor connected via VGA in Control Panel > Appearance and Personalisation > Display > Adjust Screen Resolution, it says in the display box: Code: 2. Display Device on: VGA. In the Device Manager it only detected my Acer monitor, but after I downloaded the SyncMaster driver from the official site of Samsung, it detects the SyncMaster instead of the Acer monitor! This isn't the case in Adjust Screen Resolution.
The SyncMaster shows nothing at all, the blue LED, where I can tell the monitor is turned on from, flickers all the time, but the screen doesn't show anything.
I have tried reinstalling the driver, restarting my computer, installing the newest updates for Windows 7, making the SyncMaster my main monitor, turning off the Acer monitor, but nothing works.
My laptop cannot detect any wireless right now, though the others are connecting normally. But when I plugged the cable network in, my laptop can connect to wired network. Previously, it could be able to connect to wifi, but suddenly, the wifi is like hidden from it. I also tried to check the wireless drivers but I couldn't find any.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got a CyberPower desktop computer which has worked great for over a year now. I was having some problems with my hard drive and so I started to attempt to improve it by first doing a disk check and then disabling some programs launching when the computer starts, making sure not to touch the Microsoft ones. Now when I start my computer I'm greeted with a message from the windows boot manager saying "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause" the status is "0xc000000f and the info is "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible". The major problem that I'm having is that when I put in the CyberPower disc which contains Windows 7, it seems to just ignore it! What can I do?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have tried to use this IOMAX USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE Adapter Kit with Power: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics to connect an old 250 gb Samsung sata hard drive to my PC.Windows won't recognise it as a hard drive/partition - the USB adapter device is recognised, and via Devices & Printers, it shows the drive, but not as a USB External Drive, (see image) so I cannot access it.

I haven't been able to get Windows 7 installation to detect this drive for about two months now. I'm running on a Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H mobo, revision 2.1.
I recently found a list of drivers for my motherboard on Gigabyte. I also found some downloads for my hard drive.
Oh, and I can use this drive if I'm running Windows 7 on a different hard drive, but I just can't install Windows 7 on it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedSo my trusty old 40 GB Maxtor HDD finally died, and I'm trying to install Windows 7 on a 250 GB Western Digital Caviar SE 16 (SATA II). Windows will boot off of the DVD, load the setup, ask me if I want to perform an install or a repair, and then it asks if I want to upgrade or do a "custom" setup. I choose custom since it's a clean drive, but then it shows me a blank list of drives with the option to load a driver. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2H, so I went to Gigabyte's website and downloaded the drivers and put them on a USB thumb drive. I spent hours trying to load different drivers to no avail. I tried the CD that came with the motherboard; no dice. I tried 32 and 64 bit installations; neither worked.
But you know what did work? My 180-day trial copy of Windows Server 2003. It detected that hard drive like Western Digital made it just for 2003.
i can not install dual-both window7 and window8 on my computer.i think that may be my hard is dynamite.not basic.

I've read some topics here with the about same problem and tried what they sugested there: to use software like WinDirStat, TreeSize Free and SpaceSniffer. But they just won't show me my whole hard drive. The stop at 50% and show it as if they have scan the whole 100%.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMe and my fiance just finished putting together her first real gaming computer and we wanted to use a Patriot 64g SSD to put win 7 on and use a 1TB Seagate drive for all the rest of the storage. The installation of Win 7 onto the SSD went nice and smooth but when we get into windows it is not detecting the 1TB HD at all. Funny thing is that when I go in to the SSD properties, I can see the Seagate under the sharing options. The only info I have found is how to clone off an existing hard drive with Win 7 on it not how to do a fresh install on 2 new drives.

i remember, last week everything was ok and all of sudden this problem has occurred. all other drives are ok only these three are way over their own heads.
my system is
Intel Core i5-2300 cpu@2.8ghz
2.79ghz,3.48 GB of RAM
and windows is 32 bit/
On my old secondary computer my setup was
Motherboard: Chaintech VNF2-350
Master 0: HDS722516VLAT80 with Windows installation
Slave 0: WD800BB-53CCB0
But then I started getting Machine Check Exceptions and my motherboard ultimately perished. So I replaced that with a Foxconn K8S755A-6ELRS. But this new motherboard won't detect the hard drive.
It will hang at the part that says "Detecting IDE drives", sometimes it will give up and display "0" where the drive is supposed to be, other times it will hang until you unplug the cable.
If it's on the same channel as the Hitachi drive with XP on it, the BIOS recognizes the other drive, but fails to boot from it. If they are on different channels, it boots the XP drive but will see no hint of the drive on the other channel., even in Disk Management or Device Manager.
I also tried connecting it to my other computer's Intel DP35DP mobo, and it was able to detect/read/write and all that, though it does have a few bad sectors.
Recently I change my Os from windows vista to 7. Because I can't find a way to make the original OS to become genuine. From there, my laptop can't read external hard drive but it can only read flash drives.I don't know what my laptop is missing, if it is updates or drivers.

View 3 Replies View RelatedInstall everything, the bios detect the hard drive (it's a new hard drive, never been use) but when installing the Windows 7 64, the hard drive list is empty.
Here my spec
Phenom II 940BE | Gigabyte 790X-UD4P | Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB | XFX HD4770 512MB | OCZ StealthXStream 600W | NZXT Tempest
I recently embarked on the journey of building my first custom PC. Everything was going well, until I hit a speed bump of installing Windows 7 64 bit. So like usual I boot from the CD drive, and stick Windows 7 in. When it gets to the point where I'm going to install, it is unable to find my SATA drive to install Windows 7 on.
It then asks me to "locate drivers." So it gives me an option to browse, and when it does so I put in the disk that came with my mobo, but it's unable to find any drivers. I tried downloading drivers from my motherboard's web site, sticking them on an external HD, and locating them from there, but that still didn't work.
I checked in my BIOS, and my SATA type is under Native IDE. I tried switching it to AHCI, and my HD was no longer detected in the BIOS, switched back to Native IDE and it found it again. Also, Onchip IDE Channel is set to Disabled, and Onchip SATA Control is set to Enabled, does this matter any?
I was wondering, though, is it possible that if I set the SATA type to AHCI, move the SATA cables into ports so that the drive is recognized by my BIOS, use the AHCI drivers I downloaded, Windows 7 will detect it?
