Optical Disk Installation Of Windows 8 After A Hard Disk Crash?
Oct 22, 2012
I purchased a new PC with Windows 7 in June 2012. It came with a Samsung optical disk containing Windows 7. I am eligible for the $14.99 USD upgrade to Windows 8.Will there be an installation disk for Windows 8 available at this price and if not, then how much more will it cost?If not, then how should I ensure that I can easily install Windows 8 after a hard disk crash? Do I have to keep my Samsung optical disk of Windows 7?
I was uninstalling AVG and my syatem would get the BSOD and xrash before I completed it.Eventuallt my whole system crashed and all I get is a message on a black screen fron Phoenix Technologies aaying 'Boot from BBS-harddisk'.Anyone know what this means and if this screen can be bypassed. I can't use f2, f8 or f12.
Had a power failure during a recovery of an Acronis backup on my C: drive. It seems it happened while Acronis just started loading the backup files? When I restarted the Samsung Laptop local drive C: did not appear in Explorer. Only drive D: and my DVD drive E: appeared (C an D are partitions on the same hard disk). The recovery software was on a hidden partition but when trying to use the Samsung Recovery facility it say Drive C: not found. After trying out suggestions found on the internet I only managed to screw everything up resulting in also loosing the D: drive containing my Acronis backup. The laptop did not start at all. I at last managed to get it going after installing Windows 7 again and I then sit with only C System Disk, D System reserved and E: DVD drive at that point.Foolishly I shrinked the system disk C and created a data disk. That disk is now Data Disk F. and not D as original. The Acronis backup containing all my files and data was on the original Data Disk D:I have used various free software to try and find that specific file. But they all search by drive and the missing file must be somewhere on the disk either as lost or wrong drive letter or something.
I have a 2.8 Ghz, P4 processor with 768 (512 + 256) MB ram and an Asus p5rd1-vm motherboard with a 128 MB ATI-Radeon Graphics Card. I have been running Windows XP for years. I have decided to upgrade to Windows 7 finally after reading all the reviews. However, During installation, my hard disk is not being detected (There is no drive on screen which I can format or set up on.) Can anyone help? Do I need to update my BIOS?Also, I recently changed my hard disk (upgraded it) and XP has been installed and is running fine.
I'm building my first pc and I'm getting blocked right at the gate. I have a 64bit Windows 7 installation disk (home version, "for system builders" ). This is a fresh installation, I don't have any other OSs for this build so my options are limited.
It starts out fine, but when I get to the point where I am to pick a hard drive to install to, it won't accept anything. It will allow me to delete partitions but clicking on "New" or "Format" (under the advanced options) makes it think for a few seconds, then just stop like nothing happened.
I have tried formatting it through gparted, but no matter what I do it complains that the drive has been formatted with in GPT, even when the drive is completely clean and unformatted.
I'm using a Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1tb hard drive on the MSI P67A-GD65 mobo with intel i7 2600k.
I am preparing a laptop for sale, and have carried out a fresh install of Windows (booting from recovery CD). During this process, I selected 'Custom installation'followed by the hard disk partition containing my personal data and 'Drive options (advanced)', followed by 'Delete'. Is this a secure method of erasure or should I take additional precautionary steps before selling?
After installing Windows 7 on my PC all my hard disks(4) are display as removable disks in the icon of safely remove hardware on the taskbar. Is it related with enabling ACHI mode on my system?
English is not my first language but i m trying to express my problem, i had a system with windows7 OS then i installed Ubuntu as a dual boot system but some thing happens it removed windows 7 from list. When i used Ubuntu i don't liked it very much so once again change to windows 7 environment... but now my whole drive is not showing , it showing only partial drive. note i don't have any PC to make my hard disk secondary.
My SONY VAIO VPCEB15FX laptop has been getting the S.M.A.R.T failures. I checked with SONY and since my laptop is more than 12 months old - could not get them to help me with this issue without paying (laptop started having issues exactly after 15 months- not so good for a branded laptop). So i thought i will try to handle this myself, created the recovery discs, repair disk and backed up all the data in 15 DVDs. I bought a WD Scorpio Blue hard drive (WD5000BPVT - Advanced Format Drive) and replaced the same in my laptop and started off with the recovery discs. I chose to restore complete system and it proceeded. Once it completed the process - the system restarted and the OS Setup began - now comes the issue. When the setup started it throws this error "Windows setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's Hardware" I ordered the SONY recovery discs - repeated the above RESTORE process - but still facing the same error?
in my hardisk with G: size 465gb xp shows that 74.86 gb is remaining space......while space used is 0 , there are no hidden files, nothing in the disk K: size 186gb same as above and remaining is 35 gb according to windows xp i: size 196gb .in this only 9 gb is used and xp shows that 10gb is remaining//

I am using an HP Pavillion DV9700 laptop BIOS F.2C AMD Turion 64x2 TL-60 2.00 GHz 2 GB on board Windows 7 Home Premium, 32-bit OS, all updates installed
Somewhere, after a Windows 7 update many months ago, the problem started. I had no problems before. It started with the OS not recognizing the optical disk drive that came installed with the laptop. The computer's set-up BIOS recognizes the drive as being there. The optical drive does not show in Device Manager. I tried changing out the disk drive, it did not work. Soon, Windows 7 would occasionally lock up at the boot screen, but work fine on a cold reboot following a lock-up.
But then the lock-ups became permanent and cyclical. No amount of reboots would facilitate. I went to do a clean install using an external USB optical drive and accidentally discovered it cured the problem! The laptop will not lock up if the external USB optical drive is hooked up and turned on when starting the computer. I tried a clean install of the operating system. I tried updating the drivers. Windows 7 always recognizes I had problems booting and sends the error messages to Microsoft.

Recently I can't play any DVD disk with my HP Dv3 DVD drive, once inserted a disk after auto play start it crash to blue screen. I have tried with an external drive same problem.
A while back my computer crashed when playing ARMA2. I was playing and suddenly my screen turned black but the sound kept playing. I did a hard reboot and i got a Disk Boot failure. I decide to do another hard reboot and the computer turned on normally. After this i haven't had any problems any more.
Until yesterday when i installed a new game (Dishonored) A minute into the game the same thing happened as with the ARMA2 crash. Screen turns black but sound keep playing so i did a hard reboot. I got a Disk Boot failure but after a hard reboot it is gone again. But unlike with the ARMA2 crashes this happens every time i try to play dishonoured. I reinstalled the game on a different partition of the same drive and it stilled happened although this time it let me play for about 5min. But i don't think it had anything to do with reinstalling it on different partition it seems to randomly crash within 1-5 min.
I check a few other games and they don't seem to give any problems. I also did a chkdisk of the drive the game is installed on but no problems where found. I also did a memtest86 but also no errors.
My Windows is installed on a SSD but the game itself is installed on a HDD. don't know if that matters but i thought i just add that.
I tried to reformat my dads hard drive to reinstall windows 7. It was in 2 partitions, so I ran the windows 7 disc and it ran through the motions, I formatted the c to re-install windows and it wouldn't let me. I went into dos under diskpart to try and format it that way, still no luck. I connected it to my computer then under disk management deleted the 2 partitions so there was only 1 now which had the size i.e, 600GB Unallocated. I connected it back into my dads computer and ran the set-up again. Now the computer wont even detect the drive. I need to re-format the drive to like factory default, is this possible, also do I have to do it in dos.
I accidentally recently over wrote my windows C: hard drive by trying to dual install linux on my laptop. I downloaded and burned a windows 7 64 bit repair disk but I have no point to repair it from! So I think I need a clean installation, is there anyway I can also burn an installation disk.
I was having problems with my laptop being very slow and was trying to do a full system restore. I didnt have the battery in when i tried to do the restore and unfortunately half way through the charger came out and switched the laptop off. i turned it back on and it says i had to insert my windows disc which i dont have. it wont let me do anything else now. ive tried downloading windows to disc but when it gets back to the restore page it says i need to have the windows installation disc and wont let me restore from an earlier time as these have all been erased. its a dell inspiron n5030, with windows 7.
Yesterday , randomly , when I turned on the computer I saw nothing but a black screen. It wasn't the black screen of death , looked like a windows black screen but it just wasn't displaying anything. Its almost like windows is operating normally in the background , its just not showing me. When I put the disk in it comes up occasionally and works fine , but when I shut down and turn it back on its back to the same ole thing.
I have windows 7 home premium , 32-bit. I read somewhere that I may need to check the boot order , but I have no idea how to do any of this.
I own a Dell xps M1530 with a: 2.0 ghz dual core processor, 3gb of RAM, and (currently) a 360gb 7200rpm hard drive. I have purchased Windows 7 professorial 32bit to upgrade from Vista. Not shortly afterwards my hard drive started to go so I bought a new one(better on of coarse) I want to upgrade the RAM in my laptop to 8gb and I need a 64bit os to do so. I now am using Ubuntu 64bit on my laptop until I install windows. I have legally got the installers for the 64bit version of Windows 7 professional. I am planning on using the same key for the 64bit version which after research I believe will work. Right now I am having problems installing 7. I would really like to not have to waste a DVD to install it. I used some Microsoft utility to extract the ISO to a thumb drive which, I believe is bootable in the purpose of installing 7. Every time I try loading the os from the Thumb drive I get this error message:
Error: Unknown file system Grub Rescue
Also, the Setup.exe file for installing windows doesn't seem to run under a linux operating system even with wine.
My friend's Gateway laptop has problems and I want to install Windows again. But when I try to boot to the installation disk, after I select the DVD in the boot selection menu, I just get a blank screen with a flashing cursor. After a few minutes, one time I saw a message that said something like "bootmgr cannot be found" or is missing or something like that.
But the computer can successfully boot to a Puppy Linux boot disk.
My computer has been unable to boot to the Windows 7 installer for the past two days. My boot order is correct I have confirmed that the drive works (It runs a live CD of Ubuntu just fine). I have checked that the disk works (it boots fine in another machine). I have used this same disk on this computer before several times before with successful outcomes.
My diagnostics come back successful as well. I'm on a Dell Studio 1735 (from 2008). I'm really at a lost as to why it's not booting to the DVD. I'm currently typing this from my Ubuntu partition; I don't have convenient access to a Windows machine at this point.
my computer crashed and is trying to reinstall windows 7, all the files that were on my computer have been backed up and saved on th hard drive insider a specific file that the computer chose. The problem I am having is when I power the computer on the windows startup screen appears then a error message appears stating that the computer turned off or unexpectedly restarted click OK to restart computer to re-install windows 7. My computer was purchased brand new with all the software preinstalled, no disks were included or provided with the purchase. How can I or do I reinstall windows 7 when I do not hve the installation disk. Apperantly all software files/programs r an can be located within the hard drive of the computer I don't know where or how to even try to locate them.
I have a Lenovo Y560p 64-bit i7 machine sold without a recovery or re-installation Win 7 disk. It has a so-called OneKey Recovery button which will in theory recover or re-install Windows 7 from the O/S info stored on a special HD partition. But I would like a DVD-Rom that boots the computer and does a re-installation of Win 7 should Windows break down. How do I create such a disk?
This issue has just start a couple of days ago were the computer would restart at the point of the boot logo just before the orbs came in, i have tried booting in all safe modes and the computer would restart, tried repair and it restarts before finished loading. I have tried using the os install disk but it also restarts. There is no BSOD. Is there a way to fix this or would i have to replace my motherboard?
