Windows 7 Installation Does Not Detect The Hard Disk
Jun 19, 2010
I have a 2.8 Ghz, P4 processor with 768 (512 + 256) MB ram and an Asus p5rd1-vm motherboard with a 128 MB ATI-Radeon Graphics Card. I have been running Windows XP for years. I have decided to upgrade to Windows 7 finally after reading all the reviews. However, During installation, my hard disk is not being detected (There is no drive on screen which I can format or set up on.) Can anyone help? Do I need to update my BIOS?Also, I recently changed my hard disk (upgraded it) and XP has been installed and is running fine.

I have had xp for a long time on a custom computer. Recently I contracted a virus (namely the xp antivirus 2012 system virus). I decided to reformat the hard drive, as I do not have the original xp discs, I bought windows 7 (the full version, not upgrade). While trying to install windows 7 and subsequently reformat the hard drive, the installation program can not detect any hard disk whatsoever.
Another problem is that the virus has corrupted my computer to the point where I cannot even load xp. All my computer is currently good for is watching it try to load.

I messed up whilst installing windows 7 over older windows 7 drive. I formatted the windows 7 drive and again tried to deleted that partition, but that deletion process took around 10-15 minutes, so restarted my system. Now i cannot install any of the windows os or even linux.

I recently installed a program to allow my PC to read Mac formatted hard disks. However, it did not work and from then forward, my PC is unable to detect all other external hard disks, I've tried a few. The drives are not even showing on disk management. The lights on the hard disk do light up with I plug them in but nothing happens.

I purchased a new PC with Windows 7 in June 2012. It came with a Samsung optical disk containing Windows 7. I am eligible for the $14.99 USD upgrade to Windows 8.Will there be an installation disk for Windows 8 available at this price and if not, then how much more will it cost?If not, then how should I ensure that I can easily install Windows 8 after a hard disk crash? Do I have to keep my Samsung optical disk of Windows 7?

I'm building my first pc and I'm getting blocked right at the gate. I have a 64bit Windows 7 installation disk (home version, "for system builders" ). This is a fresh installation, I don't have any other OSs for this build so my options are limited.
It starts out fine, but when I get to the point where I am to pick a hard drive to install to, it won't accept anything. It will allow me to delete partitions but clicking on "New" or "Format" (under the advanced options) makes it think for a few seconds, then just stop like nothing happened.
I have tried formatting it through gparted, but no matter what I do it complains that the drive has been formatted with in GPT, even when the drive is completely clean and unformatted.
I'm using a Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1tb hard drive
on the MSI P67A-GD65 mobo
with intel i7 2600k.

I am preparing a laptop for sale, and have carried out a fresh install of Windows (booting from recovery CD). During this process, I selected 'Custom installation'followed by the hard disk partition containing my personal data and 'Drive options (advanced)', followed by 'Delete'. Is this a secure method of erasure or should I take additional precautionary steps before selling?

My SONY VAIO VPCEB15FX laptop has been getting the S.M.A.R.T failures. I checked with SONY and since my laptop is more than 12 months old - could not get them to help me with this issue without paying (laptop started having issues exactly after 15 months- not so good for a branded laptop). So i thought i will try to handle this myself, created the recovery discs, repair disk and backed up all the data in 15 DVDs. I bought a WD Scorpio Blue hard drive (WD5000BPVT - Advanced Format Drive) and replaced the same in my laptop and started off with the recovery discs. I chose to restore complete system and it proceeded. Once it completed the process - the system restarted and the OS Setup began - now comes the issue. When the setup started it throws this error "Windows setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's Hardware" I ordered the SONY recovery discs - repeated the above RESTORE process - but still facing the same error?

I'm having some problems with my win7 installation.
As mentioned in the title the main installation will not detect the SSD and is asking for drivers, however, it is detected in diskpart.
The SSD is detected in BIOS, by ubuntu setup, linux mint setup, win7 setup's diskpart. I've ran the diskpart cleaning and reformatting and just cleaning to no avail.
The SSD works perfectly fine and I previously installed Linux Mint on it since win7 setup would not detect it besides in diskpart. I've tried adding the SATA drivers to the installation but that doesn't give me any result either, everywhere I check it's either "do the diskpart thing" or "drive's broken".
Setup:
Asus Sabertooth Z77
i5-2500k
Patriot Pyro SE 250GB

I've got a CyberPower desktop computer which has worked great for over a year now. I was having some problems with my hard drive and so I started to attempt to improve it by first doing a disk check and then disabling some programs launching when the computer starts, making sure not to touch the Microsoft ones. Now when I start my computer I'm greeted with a message from the windows boot manager saying "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause" the status is "0xc000000f and the info is "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible". The major problem that I'm having is that when I put in the CyberPower disc which contains Windows 7, it seems to just ignore it! What can I do?

I currently have a computer running Vista 32bit Ultimate and purchased the Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade.
When I used both the 64bit or the 32bit DVD to boot, I would get stuck at the STARTING WINDOWS screen for around 30min. After I will then be able to get to the install windows screen. Since I want to Upgrade from 32bit to 64bit, my option is only the CUSTOME/Clean install.
HOWEVER, when it ask me where I want to install the windows to, windows 7 installation could not detect any hdd. I am guessing this is why the STARTING WINDOWS screen took 30min load, as it was looking for a hdd.
In the same screen, it does have an option to load a driver.
So, I went to Asus to d/l the vista 64bit sata driver and also tryed the WD sata driver for the Raptor hdd.
The WD driver would not even show up on the floppy, and the Asus did.
Loaded the Asus sata driver, and still no hdd detected.
The computer is currently running with this HDD in Vista32bit and is seen on the bios. This is the only hdd in this computer, I really don't want to waste money to buy a slower hdd for my computer as the Raptor is 10k rpm.]
Note: I do not care about any data or problem in this hdd, I just formated teh hdd and did a clean
P.S. Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor tested and all hardware are ok.
MB: Asus Striker Extreme
Hdd: WD Raptors 150gb

I have tried to use this IOMAX USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE Adapter Kit with Power: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics to connect an old 250 gb Samsung sata hard drive to my PC.Windows won't recognise it as a hard drive/partition - the USB adapter device is recognised, and via Devices & Printers, it shows the drive, but not as a USB External Drive, (see image) so I cannot access it.

Here's my hard drive: Seagate Constellation ES ST3500514NS
I haven't been able to get Windows 7 installation to detect this drive for about two months now. I'm running on a Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H mobo, revision 2.1.
I recently found a list of drivers for my motherboard on Gigabyte. I also found some downloads for my hard drive.
Oh, and I can use this drive if I'm running Windows 7 on a different hard drive, but I just can't install Windows 7 on it.

So my trusty old 40 GB Maxtor HDD finally died, and I'm trying to install Windows 7 on a 250 GB Western Digital Caviar SE 16 (SATA II). Windows will boot off of the DVD, load the setup, ask me if I want to perform an install or a repair, and then it asks if I want to upgrade or do a "custom" setup. I choose custom since it's a clean drive, but then it shows me a blank list of drives with the option to load a driver. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2H, so I went to Gigabyte's website and downloaded the drivers and put them on a USB thumb drive. I spent hours trying to load different drivers to no avail. I tried the CD that came with the motherboard; no dice. I tried 32 and 64 bit installations; neither worked.
But you know what did work? My 180-day trial copy of Windows Server 2003. It detected that hard drive like Western Digital made it just for 2003.

Just built a moderate spec gaming PC from scratch, and all has went according to plan except when I try to install Windows 7, my hard drive won't show up. My new motherboard doesn't have any IDE slots, but I only have an IDE hard drive. I am using a 'Pluscom Serial ATA PCI Adapter' to connect my hard drive to the computer as it has 1 IDE slot on it. I don't have a disc for drivers and don't know where to start. I am running Ubuntu on it at the moment so I can download any drivers I may need.

I've had a sudden loss of my hard drive space. I've deleted alot of stuff, like over 20GB, more then just a few times and it just disappeared in less then 2 days. I've read some topics here with the about same problem and tried what they sugested there: to use software like WinDirStat, TreeSize Free and SpaceSniffer. But they just won't show me my whole hard drive. The stop at 50% and show it as if they have scan the whole 100%.

Me and my fiance just finished putting together her first real gaming computer and we wanted to use a Patriot 64g SSD to put win 7 on and use a 1TB Seagate drive for all the rest of the storage. The installation of Win 7 onto the SSD went nice and smooth but when we get into windows it is not detecting the 1TB HD at all. Funny thing is that when I go in to the SSD properties, I can see the Seagate under the sharing options. The only info I have found is how to clone off an existing hard drive with Win 7 on it not how to do a fresh install on 2 new drives.
