After installing Windows 7 on my PC all my hard disks(4) are display as removable disks in the icon of safely remove hardware on the taskbar. Is it related with enabling ACHI mode on my system?

When i used Ubuntu i don't liked it very much so once again change to windows 7 environment... but now my whole drive is not showing , it showing only partial drive. note i don't have any PC to make my hard disk secondary.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm building my first pc and I'm getting blocked right at the gate. I have a 64bit Windows 7 installation disk (home version, "for system builders" ). This is a fresh installation, I don't have any other OSs for this build so my options are limited.
It starts out fine, but when I get to the point where I am to pick a hard drive to install to, it won't accept anything. It will allow me to delete partitions but clicking on "New" or "Format" (under the advanced options) makes it think for a few seconds, then just stop like nothing happened.
I have tried formatting it through gparted, but no matter what I do it complains that the drive has been formatted with in GPT, even when the drive is completely clean and unformatted.
I'm using a Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1tb hard drive
on the MSI P67A-GD65 mobo
with intel i7 2600k.
When we install windows 7 our E drive is hidden.

It is an autorun.inf virus which creates shortcuts of all my folders on my drive and makes all the actual folders hidden. I believe it is refereed to as the recycler virus. I have not plugged the drive into my Windows 7 OS, and don't plan on doing so. I have Ubuntu installed however and plan to use that to format my drive as from what I've read autorun.inf viruses dont affect linux. Is this true? If I plug my hard drive into the Ubuntu OS will everything my fine?
I have an eSATA drive that has stopped functioning properly. I was trying unsuccessfully to install some completely unrelated software when I noticed that my eSATA drive was presenting differently. Under My Computer it now said that the drive was empty and there were four drives that appeared that said "Removable Disk (G)", "Removable Disk (H)", "Removable Disk (I)", and "Removable Disk (J)". When I select my eSATA drive, it says 'folder empty'. When I select one of the removable disk drives it says "Please insert a disk into removable disk (?). Whenever I reboot the computer with the eSATA drive disconnected, all five disk drives go away. I don't remember changing any settings or anything like that. One thing is odd that in device manager, the eSATA drive comes up as a SCSI drive. The device manager shows it as "WDC WD10EADS-65M2B1 SCSI Disk Device", but it is actually a "WDC WD500F032".

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have one more problem with my laptop this time . i have a Dell xps 15 , i re partitioned it and made my C drive of 141 GB . i installed all the required application and from the last few days i was watching the there is less space in my C drive than it should be there. i checked out the properties and found out that only 32.6 GB of disk space is utilized out of 141 so there should be around 108 GB free instead it shows me that only 92.9 gb is free .i cleared out the temp folder and there is nothing except 3-4 files which is of some Kbs . then where is the rest 15 GB gone ? is there a virus in my pc which is eating up the space ? i am really freaked out

Now at the Windows 7 Installation i selected the language and then selected Custom install and get a page asking which hard drive partition i would like to install the OS on. Now here is where somethings wrong. The only thing listed is the 100mb System reserved partition. How do i get the other partitions listed.
I purchased an Inspiron 15R today and wanted to do a clean install of Windows 7 right out of the box. I'm using a Windows 7 disk from another machine.I formatted the drive and all of it's partitions (recovery etc.) and installed the OS. After booting though I get sent to an error screen that tells me Windows had an error starting up and that I should choose a way to startup with the usual safe mode etc. No matter what I choose it sends me to this screen. So I booted from the disk again to attempt to format and reinstall, but now I have no disk drives to install to.
I have run a diagnostics check and nothing seems to be wrong, the HDD is still being recognized in the BIOS. What can I do to get my HDD back and showing up in the install destination options?
If I update the BIOS on my Intel motherboard to any one of the three most recent BIOS's, my add-in Intel network card (located in one of the pci slots) shows up as a removable device in the taskbar (Much like a USB device; for example a passport removable hard drive or flash drive). However, the motherboard's network controller does not exhibit this behavior.
Intel support is telling me that it can vary as to how the devices are detected by Windows and that this is normal. I have never ever seen a pci slot card being detected as a removable device in the 20 years that I have been using Windows, so I was wondering if what they are telling me is a valid statement? It seems kind of scary that this is happening.

My SONY VAIO VPCEB15FX laptop has been getting the S.M.A.R.T failures. I checked with SONY and since my laptop is more than 12 months old - could not get them to help me with this issue without paying (laptop started having issues exactly after 15 months- not so good for a branded laptop). So i thought i will try to handle this myself, created the recovery discs, repair disk and backed up all the data in 15 DVDs. I bought a WD Scorpio Blue hard drive (WD5000BPVT - Advanced Format Drive) and replaced the same in my laptop and started off with the recovery discs. I chose to restore complete system and it proceeded. Once it completed the process - the system restarted and the OS Setup began - now comes the issue. When the setup started it throws this error "Windows setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's Hardware" I ordered the SONY recovery discs - repeated the above RESTORE process - but still facing the same error?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have two SATA harddrives 0 and 1. I had Vista on firsst partition on 1 dual booting with XP on 0. When I came to load W7 it did not see drive 1 so I ended up booting it on a partition on drive 0. It is still a dual boot installation.
The problem is that W7 still does not see drive 1 (visible in XP and previously Vista)
It is not visible in computer management or elsewhere. The drive has 3 primary partitions none of which are logical.

(model: s5213w) i am upgrading my hard drive but my power supply is limited to having just one hard drive installed at a time. when i put the new one in i ran the disks given to me by HP. the first half of the installation works fine (the part where im putting all the diff cd's in) then it says to remove all cd's and windows will automatically start installing the software. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop which has a ATA HDD and I tried to install Windows 7 on it, but when you come to the window for choosing a partition, nothing shows up. I have tried to upload new drivers for the chipset on the motherboard from intel (Intel 865 Chipset) but no luck still it doesn't do anything. I am able to find the drivers and I guess it installs them but in the end nothing. So my second attempt was to try and bypass this. I took another laptop and pluged in the hdd there and tried the installation, everything went smooth, when the first restart was prompted I took out the HDD and plugged it in my comp. Now windows starts up but only up to the logo and than restarts, over and over. I tried to install all over again but it still doesn't recognize the HDD on my laptop.

I have tried using different two different HDD both spin up but the installation doesn't see them. I have also switched out SATA Cables, used different power connectors, even tried loading drivers, and have reset the BIOS by removing the CMOS Battery.

I just got a new Packard bell go external hard drive which I used for a couple of days with no problem. btw it has never fell or had any physical damage. I plugged it one day into the PC and it couldn 't be detected in my computer. it shows up in devices and printers and also in disk management. I read on some forums to try and initialize it but it gives me an error saying cyclic redundancy check. I 've tried everything but still not working. this is a new hard drive which has never fell and no physical damage. and please don' t tell me to return it cos it was bought in another country. the only option right now is to fix it?

I am pretty sure the disks aren't spinning either, but that is probably because the computer isn't picking it up, and no vice-versa.
