ESATA Drive Shows Up Empty And As Four Removable Disk Drives
Jan 31, 2012
I have an eSATA drive that has stopped functioning properly. I was trying unsuccessfully to install some completely unrelated software when I noticed that my eSATA drive was presenting differently. Under My Computer it now said that the drive was empty and there were four drives that appeared that said "Removable Disk (G)", "Removable Disk (H)", "Removable Disk (I)", and "Removable Disk (J)". When I select my eSATA drive, it says 'folder empty'. When I select one of the removable disk drives it says "Please insert a disk into removable disk (?). Whenever I reboot the computer with the eSATA drive disconnected, all five disk drives go away. I don't remember changing any settings or anything like that. One thing is odd that in device manager, the eSATA drive comes up as a SCSI drive. The device manager shows it as "WDC WD10EADS-65M2B1 SCSI Disk Device", but it is actually a "WDC WD500F032".

i remember, last week everything was ok and all of sudden this problem has occurred. all other drives are ok only these three are way over their own heads.
my system is
Intel Core i5-2300 cpu@2.8ghz 2.79ghz,3.48 GB of RAM and windows is 32 bit/
I have just bought a new computer and am running win 7.The C drive is fine but my external drive Maxtor 500gb connected by USB, is showing 465gb as used space when this is empty. In Disk management th drive is shown as 16gb, but in defrag screen the full 500gb are shown, what is using the 464gb that is empty? My previous computer running XP was showing the external drive correctly!
I have a 500gb seagate external hard drive, and already used 240gb space. It worked fine until yesterday suddenly i could not access the files at all. I checked disk management, and it showed that my external drive became RAW drive. I tried to do chkdsk that I learned from one of the forum, and then it somehow has fixed the RAW drive back to FAT32. However I still cannot see any of my files. I opened command prompt, and typed in dir /a and it said 0 files 0 bytes, 4 DIR 288,714, 293, 248 bytes free. How can I bring my files back?? I don't want to lose my files.
In my Win 7 setup, I have a drive that is called JRemovable Disk). It seems to be "Canon MX700 series USB Device". I do not know what it is for, and I really do not want it. Could someone describe it to me, and tell me if I should get rid of ot, and, if so, how?
After installing Windows 7 on my PC all my hard disks(4) are display as removable disks in the icon of safely remove hardware on the taskbar. Is it related with enabling ACHI mode on my system?
As you probably know the issue is that the HDD shows as removable device in the taskbar.
I have the lastest drivers available from Asmedia and it does not remove the icon from the taskbar.
I also try the MS register fix My internal SATA device appears in Devices and Printers and in the - Microsoft Answers
1- Since the sata port is not Intel , would the register location be the same for the proposed solution above to work?
2- I tried channels 0..5 , should I try any other number? The solution says that the channel in device manager it is not always the correct one. Under device manager , general tab it displays "Location 0 (Channel 1, Target 0, Lun 0)"
ichange bios as ahci cause i have 2 dock station and every time i have to restart to see the dock stations hard drives,ok i change my bios settings to ahci (somewhere i read if i do that,i can see then the dock stations drives as hot swap) anyway i dont fix the problem cause i have to restart again the pc to see the dock stations drives but i see and my local drives (c:,d: )
i'm using win 7 ultimate. when i plug usb drives, they are recognised also can be explored via computer management. but it is not appearing in my computer. any registry key problem?
located in my documents/downloads I open the folder and it comes up empty. If I rename it to some other name, its contents show up actually, strange thing. Also, if I open the folder the long way, that is cusersmyusermy documentsdownloads it opens fine, even i don't change the folder name, I think the error is in the registry, used Revo Uninstaller to uninstall facemoods and it messed up the registry to a state that pc became useless, had to backup registry, but seems it never recovered from it.
my control panel shows' this file is empty' whenever i click n it. However I can see the organizer but they are not functioning. How do i get the control panel to delete fragment of java?
My C: drive has been displaying a size of around 60 gb with 40 free even though it's a 300 gb drive. I thought the issue would resolve with a clean install, so I did that. Now I have a fresh install and i need to reinstall everything, but the problem isn't fixed. Below are some screen shots of the drive size:Disk Management, showing my C: Drive's full size ^Any suggestions of how I can reclaim this space?? I've tried a few things already to no avail. If you need any more information about my computer to help, let me know. This is pretty annoying, 'cause I want to use that extra space to install Ubuntu.Oh, I just rememberedWhen I look at the drive in Paragon Partition Manager, it shows the full Drive size, but says that the space that is missing from Windows is in use...
I've bought a Toshiba STOR.E D10 Zwart 1,5TB so that I can use e-SATA to connect it to my laptop. I've got a HP Probook 6555b with Windows 7 64bits. When I use the USB connection (this hard disk has both USB an eSATA) all works fine, no problem at all. When I connect it with the eSATA cable I can find the external hard disc and brwose through the files that are on it. However when I try to move files from my laptop onto the hard disk (or the other way around) after about 10 seconds it slows down and stops half way copying. Next Windows Explorer is not responding.
I have recently been bereft of the ability to write to standard CD/DVD drive or BluRay drive with any type of blank disc. I always use windows drag-and-drop. All automatic updates are installed.Every system tool test or troubleshooter says that the two devices are working properly. They can play pre-recorded material but I simply cannot get them to recognise blank media.
I have created an encrypted drive (X) on my system (Windows 7 - 64 bit) and wish to store my emails there. I did this successfully in Vista. To do this I need to change X:/ from a Removable Disk to a Local Disk, please can somebody explain to me how and wehre to do this?
OS Name: Windows 7 Home Premium Version: 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 build 7601 System Type: x64-based PC
All of my Removable Storage Devices (Flash drives, External HDD) do not work with my Windows 7. When I connect them, I hear the beeps but the device sometimes show up, sometimes not and sometimes they appear after a long interval. On accessing them, Windows tell me that I need to format the drive. Well, I can't do that. It's happening with all of my removable devices, not just one. They work fine with my laptop which is Windows 7 too,
I am running windows 7 home 64 bit (build 7600). I have a gateway fx7026. It has two internal hard drives. When I look under device manager they are both listed and they are both listed under the bios menu. When I look in my computer though under hard disk drives it only shows the one that I have the OS on. When I had Vista it showed both of them. Is this something I should be worried about. The drives are listed as WDC WD3200AAJS-22B4A0 DRIVE 1 and WDC WD3200AAJS-22B4A0 DRIVE 0.
I have tried every conceivable way to get Explorer to let me view my empty drives under Computer. They show when there's a disk in them. They show in the reading pane, they just won't show up as empty drives in the Nav pane. I have tried deleting the upper and lower filters in the registry. Un checking the "Hide empty drives" in Folder options, adding a (1) to the registry settting "Hide drives with no Media". That setting seems to change itself back to (0) all the time. I am totally at a loss getting the empty drives to show themselves in the Nav pane.
I plugged in my eSATA drive while CrystalDiskInfo was running and the computer froze. There was no way to regain control of the computer so I restarted. So now this eSATA drive is not recognized by the computer. The eSATA drive works in another computer. What's really weird is that another eSATA drive I have works in the computer where the crash happened.I've tried uninstalling all drivers (both hidden and visible) in Device Manager that relate to the drive.
I have Windows 7 x64 and have a hard drive attached to an eSata port on my PC. When I have not been using my PC for a few minutes the attached drive seems to go to sleep, and if I copy large folder (>20Gig) from my main (C) hard drive to my eSata drive the speed starts okay then slows to virtually nothing after 20 minutes. If I try to access the drive in explorer it takes a few seconds after I click on the drive to show the contents, this does not happen if I click on my C: drive. I have my Power settings set to High Performance and my Hard Drive "Sleep" settings set to Never.
I've got window 7 up and running all my stuff - lots of audio and video editing - the only issue is that when my WD My Book Studio Edition spins down after some time of inactivity, Windows looses the drive. I've searched through my BIOS for eSATA setting and there was no help there that I could find.
'The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available'. This is an error I get when I try to install the Games For Windows Live Marketplace onto my PC. From my understanding it may be because I am missing the Windows Installer Package .msi? Yet I cannot find a download that works with Windows 7... Is my assumption correct? Does anyone have a working link for Windows 7 64-bit? If not, what can I do about this irritating error that's stopping me from installing a fair few things. I also get messages whenever I install anything on steam, as, when it tries to mess with visual c+++ it tells me I am missing 'vc_red.msi' ...is this related?
HI'm trying to copy a DVD into my computer software (video Browser). My message is "Can't add files in a removable disk" This a a DVD a teammates mom made for me .. This is the type of file: AVCHD Video (.MTS). How do I get the info? tried to copy to my desktop and had the same problem
I have a sata to esata adapter installed on my desktop but its not spinning up or working my hard drive. The hard drive has 3 ports
Usb to usb Usb to dc power Esata to esata
Over usb it works fine but when i use the esata and power cable the hard drive makes a constant ticking noise and isnt detected on windows. Ive double checked inside my motherboard that its plugged into my sata ll port not sata lll. It isnt detected at all by the computer even when i search for new hardware.
Ok i have a Seagate freeagent pro 500g external HDD. Was running usb but new MB has esata so i wanted to give it a go. Well not so easy as i thought.
If esata drive is hooked to port when computer loads ,Bios sees the drive but wont get past the windows load screen.
Unpluged from port and windows loads fine. So i plug it in and windows makes the normal noise but nuthing shows up. Wait 7 mins a drive apears but will always cause page to stop responding. Usb still works fine jus rather esata due to larg files
i want to copy data from my flash disk to my computer but its telling me that the disk is right protected. How do i remove the right protected?so that i can be able to copy data.
I took pictures on an 8 GB San Disk Removable card, that on my laptop I can see and upload pictures via MY COMPUTER or COMPUTER (on desktop). This usually shows up as a removable item in my E drive, on my laptop.I'm happy with it, but when I go to COMPUTER on my desktop, there is no Removable card or E drive. How can I see my pictures?
I currently have 4 external hard drives connected to my computer. I have each of them set to sleep after an hour of inactivity. However, if I am using the computer, they stay asleep, until I delete something; anything. Any time I send something to the recycle bin, all four of my external hard drives wake up.
I would like for this not to happen. I already went to the Recycle Bin Properties and set each external hard drive to "Don't move files to the recycle bin. Remove files immediately when deleted" thinking that it would quit checking them for deleted files.
how to prevent these external hard drives from turning on when I delete files off of my computer. And just to be clear, I am NOT deleting files that are on the externals, they are files that are on the Computer.
